  1. you may want to try tuning the mags in the front to back axis. I have had one mag from the factory that I had to squeeze down a little to make it drop free. Not saying the mags wouldn't work for us mere mortals, but you do have a "solid" grip and making them a touch wider and shorter from front to back may work for you. The mags for "us" with a mediocre grip strength probably slide by on a typical tolerance "front to back" but you may need an extra .05-.10 of an inch of room for the compression of the grip itself. The OAL may also need to be adjusted slightly but it's probably woth testing while you wait for the PT grip. If it's not front to back compression of the grip, it's side to side compression, either way, you probably aren't compressing it in both directions at the same time or it would crack and implode.. You would also probably be having major feed issues because the cartridges would be rubbing all the way up the mag at the head and base. Just thinking out loud, but it's like a balloon, squeeze it and it has to displace or pop. You haven't cracked it yet so the flex is going somewhere. - PS to everyone.., If you've never shaken his hand, "normal" advice on the situation is next to worthless.... He doesn't need to palm a basketball, it deflates at the sight of his hand. "
  2. My guess is it's just the dust from rubbing against east other during shipping, like I said though it is nothing to even think about not using them. The coating definitely does rub off Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Received within the last 45 days so I'm not sure when the coating changed, don't get me wrong it's nothing to write home, or cry about, and maybe it seems dirtier because it's black vs brownish copper oxidation residue, either way the hands get washed!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I was shooting Bbi and moved to extremes as they are the same price. BBI get your hands dirtier while loading but now different shooting. I don't think you can wrong with either. Bbi is probably 50-60 fps faster but that is pretty typical for coated in my experience Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. If you really want to get a strong grip, rent a jackhammer and start breaking out your back porch!! I have been working on my grip and can close the 200 COC's with both hands but after a 5 hours of breaking concrete and picking up big chunks of concrete in each hand by just squeezing them, my hands and forearms were shot for several days. Are any of you mason's? I bet you all think this is the silliest workout ever! I don't know any mason's that shoot but I would be they can shoot an AR pistol flat
  6. I don't think there is any danger as long as you are getting fairly consistent ignition and velocities. In reading the data there are a ton of calibers I imagine in an effort to get them all listed the found a decent range and moved on, I think as more data gets published we will see a much wider range in the lower limit of the powder. Just guessing though Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Did that load feel close to your N320 load recoil wise? I'm going to do the same with a couple hundred with a 165gr bullet and see how those feel. Also want to know how dirty they are after a day of shooting. Seem like the published data is actually close to reality on this one.
  8. +1 on the spring clamp, at the depot they are a buck. I also have the COC's and would compare the spring clamp to around 125lb. What I found was that the flat part of the clamps is much more comfortable in your hand. The heavier COC's would try to roll on you which also builds strength but they tore my hand up. You can also use rubber bands on the top for added weight. Also whatever you do, make sure you are working the reverse side of squeezing, by using a rubber band around your fingers and spreading them out. You'll find this tough at first but when you go back to a squeezer you will be much stronger. This will also help tendonitis concerns. muscles can only contract and they work in tandem with an opposite pulling muscle, keeping the strength on both sides balanced is key to not having injury. An example is people who do tons of situps but never lower back strengthening usually end up out of balance with back issues. Balanced is key
  9. when I ran these this weekend I didn't notice any unburned powder or flakes this weekend, but also didn't shoot a ton of them, I'll load up a practice session worth 4-500 and see if I have this issue when the conditions may be different. I'm also curious how dirty this will be once shooting for a longer session. These did make 170 PF at 5.8 and 5.9gr, I'm also going to try 165gr xtremes and see how that feels with a little more powder and may end up cleaner, though I didn't notice they were abnormally dirty either
  10. Awesome, building memories that will never be forgotten! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. 4.3 got it done, 4.4 ended up being 180 PF 4.2 was a little skinny for the rain 180 Thanks all Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I didn't notice any but I was in a hurry and my primary focus was not shooting my chrono, I'll pay attention this weekend Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Epic fail for CFE today with the chrono, heavy rains here in CO. I had about 8 or 10 loads that I was testing and got good data on all of them through a slight drizzle but when I got to the first string of CFE it missed the whole thing and I was trying to get it done quick so I wasn't looking to see if it registered. Grabbed some regular ammo just to test the chrono as I only had done two test weights. Chrono registered all of my practice, so I loaded and fire the second string of CFE and it missed that whole one as well. Oh well got some good info on IMR PB and the CFE is loaded and ready to go for this weekend again. On a side note, I picked up a pact time from the bargain cave and the print function is sweet when you're trying to get it done quickly. I know people have issues with them but I had none based on the rain conditions I was playing in
  14. You guessed it, slow like the book shows. Nice minor load though, gonna try 4.2 and 4.4 tomorrow. 3.8 got me to around 850fps average so we'll see
  15. I figured it would be, I was just a little hesitant to jump 30% above listed max without trying the max published load first. Has anyone ran this to what they felt the max charge weight was with the longer OAL? How close do people think 170PF is to the high end
  16. So I'm starting development of RS Comp for 40 major 180gr FP or RNFP at 1.191" for an STI. reading published data starting is 3.0gr and max is 3.6gr. This does not make major but I know a lot of people are using it in lieu of N320. I think people are using it 4.3-4.6gr to make major but I just wanted to make sure. I'm starting at 3.6 and working up but looking for feedback
  17. I loaded a bunch of different powders to try last night, so I don't recall for sure but the min was 5.9 and I think I did 5.6 - 5.7 - 5.9 but at the longer OAL of 1.19. Hoping the longer length will reduce the velocity closer to 170PF and allowing a cleaner burn. This will be out of an STI so it may not help you with the G35
  18. My hope is at longer length they will be closer to minimum charge and reduce the dirtyness while being around 170PF. I'm not sure how the pressure vs charge weight plays into how clean it burns. Ie does anyone know if typically a powder needs to hit a pressure to have certain burn characteristics or if it is more related to weight of charge that allows it to burn cleanly?
  19. I loaded up some of these last night and will test this afternoon and report back. Using rainier 180RNFP at 1.191 if anyone is interested. hopefully they shoot well, based on the published data they are below minimum but we'll see how they go
  20. Does it have the recoil master still? Not sure if it was ever in there due to age but if it does you may just want to try the light replacement spring, I've had good luck with it. If not, 12.5 or 12lb is the usual answer
  21. I never noticed a POI shift between BBI and Rainier, I have intermingled them in mags while dot shooting and couldn't tell the difference. I haven't shot them rested at 25 though to confirm this.
  22. Thanks for all the input, I figured it would probably be the wrong approach and this confirms it. I know it will also kill the value of it. People are typically either looking for a "stock" model gun or a custom. Hacking on a gun that is a standard model doesn't necessarily make it a custom nor is it a standard anymore, kind of puts it in franken territory and makes the value more interpretive. At the end of the day I wouldn't be too broken about "needing" a custom!
  23. Closing the lips if they are a little wide can really help make feeding more consistent. I found that the mags that were a little wide would occasionally spit rounds if bumped or putting back in my mag pouchs, etc. Closing them just a little really made them more secure and this went away. This didn't impact feeding while in the gun at all. I also found that sometime with the follower sticking up, it would wedge the slide against it if not locked back and I would need to actually pull the mag out vs letting it drop free Just something to pay attention to
  24. So I have an STI Executive that I purchased at a good price. The exec comes with factory hard chrome. My question is, if I want to have some milling done on the frame and slide for performace first and aesthetics second, how does the refinishing process work? Does anyone have experience with this? Do they need to strip the old hard chrome before they can re chrome it? Do tolerances get jacked? Overall I love the gun and it functions awesome just curious as to whether this is possible or if I wanted it done I would be better off starting over on a custom and keeping the value intact on the "stock" gun
