  1. Badger FTE on my Remy 5R Milspec. It pisses off anyone shooting next to me but I call my own shots with it. Very effective.
  2. Hopefully the change has purged some of the trolls on the Hide and it ends up a better forum. One thing I really appreciate on this site is the abundance of information without the negative attitudes.
  3. Seems someone already had the Lowlight handle on Scout. Now Frank goes by SHLowlight. Even the creator of the Hide wasn't immune to the change.
  4. I used to get on the Hide regularly but with the change hardly at all. I was one of the lucky ones that was able to keep the same handle. It kinda sucks to know some of the regular posters had to change theirs. I guess it was the luck of the draw...or as the explanation goes, others that were already on Scout had the handles and the new guys had to change. It should be interesting to see what the site looks like in about six months.
  5. Got'a brag on my gal. Took the wife out to do some long range shooting today and she did very well. Set her up at 100 yards to check zero and crono some new loads. After she put a couple rounds in the bull I suggested she try the steel I set at 550 yards. I fed her the dope and she dialed it in and proceeded to put 7 shots on the 12" plate before letting the wind move her off target. When I told her to favor right she was back on, ringing the steel like a church bell. 30 rounds total and she missed the steel 5 times. The wind wasn't bad but enough to make her think about what she was doing. She's shooting her Remy 5R milspec in .223 with a Nightforce NSX 5.5-22/50. The rifle can do It all day long and her round count with it is 226. I probabily have fired 45 of them so it's basically still a new rifle to her. It's great to know she can shoot like that. The next target was set at 1K yards. She didn't want to drop behind the .308 and give it a try but I wouldn't bet it will be long before she tries. RT
  6. I have two Nightforce NXS's (on bolt guns) and a Vortex Viper (on a gas gun). I'll always stick with the NXS's if the budget allows but I'm really impressed with my Vortex so far. Either will do the trick but I also look at resale if the need might come around for it. Just depends on cash flow at the time. RT
  7. Or buy it and see the quality of Mark's products and how well they work and never cry about the price. I have two of them. They are worth every penny.
  8. Randy does build nice sticks. How long from order to receipt?
  9. You can ship them to me and I'll let you know if they still work.
  10. Sweet. Is that barrel helically fluted? (if that's what it would be called)
  11. Or, strike a vertical line on a four foot length of butcher paper set at 100 yards. The line must be plumb. Put a target dot on the line for your aiming point. Start sending rounds downrange maintaining the same aim point (the dot) while dialing the impact up on the scope for yardage. Guarantee (based on your information) you'll watch the impacts move progressively right. If it does, the scope is out of plumb. No need to mess with lapping the rings with quality rings. Check out the Hollands anti-cant bubble when you get it dialed in. http://www.sinclairintl.com/optics/optic-accessories/scope-levels/holland-s-signature-series-scope-levels-prod42468.aspx It really helps with consistancy in the extended ranges. The 700 yard target at my range I shoot at has a slight tilt. Most shooters don't know this and tilt the rifle without knowing. Pisses them off when they move back and forth between yardages and have to keep adjusting for windage on a calm day. I matched my anti-cant with my scopes reticle with then used the anti-cant to level the scope to the rifle. My elevation tracks true. At least to 800 yards which is the max at the range.
  12. Just picked up 500 77gr SMK's and 500 69gr SMK's at Cabelas online. There still showing them in stock. Price was the same as Powder Valley on the 77's and fifteen bucks more on the 69's. P.V. showed out of stock for both of these.
  13. Case feeder. Setting the bullet by hand is the last opportunity to check for a correct powder charge. I wouldn't want that to go away.
  14. Sure didn't take long to sell out. Once again it pays to be in the right place at the right time.
  15. I use a basic Cabela's electronic scale to check powder drops on the XL 650. I find the old tried and true beam scale still work best when trickle charging precision rifle cartridges.
  16. Most Americans will never understand why he will be remembered as a Hero, but those who by way of his actions were able to come home to their families would beg to differ. RIP Chris, you are and will allways remain an American Hero.
  17. MIne came with an 8 when I bought it used. Haven't seen a reason to change.
  18. The tool head clamp does look interesting. IMHO, I have found the biggest variable to be the shell plate. Any adjustment in the plate tension to help reduce powder flipping from the case changes the geometry and affects all die operations. It shouldn't as the shell plate bottom's out on the ram, but that's where I find inconsistencies. Bullet seating and OAL being the one that I'm most concerned with due to the effect on case pressure and ultimately PF. It might be a few thousandths but were trying to be precise here, right? I measure each dies effect on the case/cartridge with all the stations being used in order to get a uniform "lift" or pressure on the toolhead. The tool head clamp would certainly help reduce one variable.
  19. I had my 2011 apart doing a major cleaning and new grip install. I had a tool drop from the cabinet above (totally my fault) and land squarely on the plastic trigger turning it into five pieces. I now have an aluminum trigger. There might be a difference in trigger pull but I can't tell a difference.
  20. Open is a 2011 and everything else (excluding .22) is 1911. I'm a firm believer in muscle memory and having everything operating and feeling the same.
  21. Same deal for me. Ordered Saturday, arrived today. Great service. Thanks Bob.
