  1. If you have been using the 170 for a period of time and this is an ongoing problem, take a look at the mag for "rub" marks. If it is binding all the time there should be some marks on the mag body that show where it is binding when put inside the grip.

Then you need to decide if problem is with a mag that might need tuning or a grip that might need some relieving.

  2. One VERY important consideration is also how long you want to wait to get an Open gun. I spoke to Bob and Ingi at the Florida Open and the wait time for one of his guns is now 18 months, a year and a half! Last I heard the wait for one of Dan Bedell's guns was 8 months or more.

So, do you want to wait that long or do you want instant gratification.............like I do. If the latter, then consider one of the smiths already mentioned and do your homework regarding what they are offering. If you decide that you want a "used" Brazos/Bedell/etc. now, then $3000 +/- is not a bad price.

  3. Really fun match, thanks to Frank, Rosie, Wadette, and all the great CRO's, RO's, and Explorers who did all the hard work. Heading back to the snow/cold tomorrow but I will be back again next year.

Squad #19.......... you were a great bunch of guys to shoot with.

Does anyone know when full results will be up on Frank's site or someplace else?

  4. I have seen lots of super photos of guns, girlfriends/wives, and lots of other great things. How about a thread of pictures of "your gang". I am sure we are all proud of our families. I'll start.

Our holiday photo of the wife and I with my 2 daughters (one with her husband) and my wife's son and daughter. Oh yeah, a few dogs and cats too.

    Now lets see others!

  5. Love my Pro Sx, Bob certainly builds great guns. The thing runs perfectly. However, what I like best about dealing with Brazos is the 1 on 1 customer service you get.

Bob and Ingi always stand behind their products and Bob has always been willing to answer all my questions about the gun, loads, etc. etc. He even called me on a Sunday afternoon to make sure my questions were answered to my satisfaction. If a problem occurs, they deal with it graciously and with the express purpose of making sure you are 100% satisfied.

Note: I am sure this is true with several other builders mentioned before, just my .02 about Brazos.

    I'm curious:

As one who is having problems with my 650 Primer mechanism

( I am getting repeated "Hard" Jams and upon disassembling the primer mechanism- am finding primers which look like an attempt was made to "Shear" the primer laterally)

    In retrospect..............................

Where there any indications there there might have been a problem before the Kaboom ??

    1) Jams?

    2) Badly seated primers in finished cartridges

    ( upsidedown / sideways / seated crooked )

    3) failures to deliver a primer to the seater station

    4) "Stiff" lever cycling

    5) Uneven "feel" between succesive seatings of primers

How Old is your 650 ?

How long have you been using it?

What caliber did this occur on?

How many had you succesfull loaded in that session before the incident

    ( I'm guessing none afterward)

    OH YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What Brand of primers were you using ??????

    P.S.

    See my starting post on

    (650 Primer System JAMMING)

    650 about 4-5 months old

    loading 38 Super

loaded probably 10,000+ with not a hiccup, kept cleaned and lubed

    WSR primers

no indication of possible KB, smooth until it hit

Had gotten some primers that were coming in sideways a week or so ago, but Dillon had me recalibrate shellplate and everything was good again

great machine, just a big surprise

Can't say enough good things about how Dillon rep handled everything

  7. Well, it finally happened. Was loading some 38 Super on the 650 last night and had a big kaboom. Was seating a primer and it touched everything off. Probably about 50-60 primers left in magazine tube all decided to let loose.

Loud bang and the follower rod is smashing up into the ceiling. Smoke everywhere and heartbeat a little quicker. And yes, I was wearing safety glasses etc.

Got everything taken apart and things were a mess in there. Magazine tubed is fused to inside of primer assembly tube and all kinds of other damage.

Called Dillon and explained what happened. The guy was EXTREMELY helpful in making sure I got every part that needed to be replaced. He knew exactly what had to be replaced and was very sympathetic to my situation. Stuff is shipping today and I will have things back together early next week.

That is why I will always deal with Dillon. The no BS warranty is great in a situation like this and their customer service people are the best. Thanks Dillon!

    A loyal customer.

PS to all reloaders............ please make sure you wear your safety classes when you load!

  8. I started with the 550 but then bought a 650. I keep the 550 for the calibers that I don't shoot as much and use the 650 for my 38 Super, which I shoot a LOT of.

I had a few extra $$$$ available so I purchased the KISS bullet feeder. WOW! Does that speed things up, just keep pulling the handle. I have now loaded over 4000 with it installed and not a single misfed bullet. Pricey. but soooo much fun!

Oh, you should also get the Dillon RF100 primer filler.

  9. I'd call up JL Hardy. He uses them in his guns so he should have some in stock. He uses the ball and detent type, which I prefer.

You're bud should have it re-chromed, though, when he has some downtime.

How do we get hold of him?

  10. A friend of mine just picked up a Brazos Pro Sc at an unbelievable price. It was made a couple of years ago, shot about 500 rds, and then stashed away. It does not have a slide racker and he wants to add one right away.

Can anyone suggest a gunsmith somewhere on the east coast that could install one for him in a hurry? Should he purchase from Brazos or Shooters Connection and then have someone install?

If time were not an issue I know he should send it to Bob at Brazos but he wants to get it done right away and we all know how much work Bob has at the present.

Thanks for any help. Phone numbers and websites would be appreciated and I will pass the information along to him.
