Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I've had good luck with lanolin OIL (try a health food store or Ebay) and 99% isopropyl alcohol. Be sure to use the oil version not the anhydrous (thick gel) lanolin. The anhydrous lanolin will have a tendency to settle out of solution in little clumps. The lanolin OIL and isopropyl should also be shaken prior to use, but there won't be clumps. They higher the alcohol content the better. I've tried 91% isopropyl, but I was not pleased with the results. I've had no issues with 1 ounce of lanolin OIL mixed with one 12 ounce bottle of "ISO-Heet" (fuel line antifreeze). I wouldn't use regular Heet because it is made of methyl alcohol and it is toxic. If you wanted to use more lanolin oil you can. Some have been able to find 99% isopropyl alcohol in pharmacies, but I cannot. ISO-Heet is readily available just about anywhere. I've also made my own Imperial size wax substitute by melting anhydrous lanolin with beeswax. Lanolin all by itself works very well, but it is sticky and stringy when you dip a finger in it. The beeswax lets you slide a finger across the mixture and not end up with a glob. The more beeswax you use, the firmer the mix. I'd start with about 5 parts anhydrous lanolin to 1 part beeswax and then adjust the proportions to your liking.
  2. Has anyone tried Alliant's "Clay Dot" powder? Is it extruded, flake, or spherical? Anybody know its nitroglycerin content? Clay has 10% nitro, but Alliant's MSDS only lists it between 4% (American Select) and 40% (Bullseye). Clay Dot seems to be considerably cheaper and its made in the USA.
  3. I can't speak about the case feeder, but I too have had priming issues with my LnL AP. You say the slide moves, but it doens't drop the primer onto the primer ram, correct? Does a primer fall into the shuttle, or does it move back and fail to retrieve a primer? If it isn't retrieving a primer, the shuttle isn't moving back far enough. The timing (cam) rod may need to be moved further to the rear to achieve enough movement. The timing (cam) rod may also have become bent, making it impossible to move it far enough to the rear to reliably retrieve a primer. Does the shuttle move all the way forward with a primer? Sometimes I put just enough forward pressure on the lever when trying to load quickly that the primer ram prevents the shuttle from moving fully forward to present a primer for seating. I have also had problems with the primer tube backing out of the primer body, allowing primers to flip or turn sideways. When they turn sideways the shuttle becomes stuck and must be cleared. Make sure your shellplate is clean, tight, and free of any obstructions in the grooves for the case rim. Maybe all your problems are from an obstruction in the groove that isn't letting the case fully seat in the shellplate.
  4. No I don't. I had just started to shoot Service Rifle comps at Mill Creek and start working up my classification. Used to. That was before I got married and had kids! I do not get to shoot near as much as I'd like that's for sure.
  5. I had lots of good times there...............I think. I'm getting old!
  6. Thanks. I'm from the Kansas City area.
  7. Hello to all. I've lurked around this forum for a while and figured I should join. Thanks for allowing me to do so. I'm not a competitor, but enjoy shooting and reloading. Not sure what else is pertinent at this time, so I guess I'll cross that bridge when the time comes.
