i don't see how that's any different than missing a target and not hitting a wall. You shot at it but missed. pretty simple.

Except you never were in a position where it was possible to shoot at it, you shot at a wall from a position where you could not even see the target if it was a real wall (in the case where I saw it).

If you don't get the FTE it might be worth it sometimes, instead of making a mad dash to get to that one steel just wack away at the clubs range equipment and take the mike.

  2. Much as I grouse about IDPA rules (hmmm, could part of the problem with rules be me, Naw, not possible :)) I like it that if you have a major brain fart, or try to get cute, and shoot through designated hard cover then you get to go to the Dairy Queen and think about it.

Years ago, i asked how you could shoot at a target, through a wall, and not get an FTE, when all all walls are supposed to be "inpenetrable".

Had the same thing happen this year while I had the timer at a USPSA local. Wasn't exactly sure what to do about it but the acting rm was on my squad so I asked him (don't remember if he got the FTE or just the two mikes). It was kind of a Whiskey Tango Foxtrot moment in real time.

  3. "but with our members you never know.  Sad really. "

Well, it ain't just me then. When I ask about an omission or just weirdness in the rulebook (e.g. virtual walls that a bullet can't pass through but your hand can reach under to grab a magazine, the rather bizarre reshoot ruling a couple months back, etc) it is always the fault of the members and not the rules.

I highly recommend an auto progressive press, 650/750.  I have been at the range and seen 3 pistols blow up, 2 1911s,  and a Glock, all three had the same thing in common, all rounds loaded on a 550, auto progressive almost eliminates the possibility of no charge/double charge, and production rate is much higher.

I use a 1050 for what I shoot most (9mm) and a 550 for everything else. Personally I would not be comfortable loading with any press if I didn't stand while loading and look at the fill level of each and every round, and as another said previously "pay attention - , no tv no radios," . With the 1050 when I stop for an overfull round I find that the case has something left in it that didn't fall out when the cleaning media was tumbled out, with the 550 if you are visually verifying fill level with every round I don't know how you could double charge accidentally.

Ammo is in general more expensive and harder to find, but just for fun and you got the ammo, sure.

Didn't realizeI got a response from royalty until I read some other threads :)

Are you the guy that used to give demonstrations with a lot of showmanship thrown in for the kids? Shooting baseballs and making them curve & some eggs if memory serves & etc?

thank you. I'll just have to be patient. they been out of stock everywhere for a while.

Or grind away at your existing safety until you know longer bump it and then clean it up a bit with touch up blue.

I decided a couple of years ago that it is foolish to try and make one gun the best at more than one thing.

Understood. For many I think there is only one thing that they really care about and the rest is more like fun practice with friends. In my case I try to get a gun and load right for USPSA production and I find that good enough for steel and idpa.

  8. I'd get the 29, but that is just personal preference. They are a lot of fun with lighter loads. If I had no personal preference I would snoop around and get the one that seems likely to be most accurate.

Just stay with the squad and help out, no biggie. Only had one in a "formal practice"  straight up 180 unloading a revolver, oh well

Depends. Little squad, needs help, I stick around. Big squad, doesn't need help, I wish them a fun match and pack up.

  10. For CZ rears I am very happy with the sight pusher sold by CZCustom, about $100 shipped.
You will need to do the brute force portion of the install /removal the old fashioned hammer and punch way on sights that are not the set screw type, after that fine positioning is easy.

  11. Somebody wants a 9mm they can pm me, have one person casually thinking about mine that would get first dibs but likely have one for sale. I think it is legal to mention this since here since I have the necessary posts and etc for classifieds.

My thoughts. I've got a 10mm ruger match champion that I'm feeding 40's at about 160 pf for IDPA, love that gun and soft shooting loads although I wish the trigger was more like a well tuned smith. With the McCarbo trigger kit and polishing I'm ok with the trigger, it is just that the S&W is better. To keep s.o.'s awake you can always stick in a 10 mm round now and then.

When they went to 8 shot 9mm/357 I think they might have pushed the limits of the ruger design. Sent the gun back to the factory due to a cylinder latch timing issue (can't gripe about their warranty service, that is one place where they are light years ahead based on how I've been treated by S&W). With the latch timing fixed the next issue was that when using moon clips the pawl would hang on brass and the trigger would stick back. Issue #2 seems fixed after a smidge of filing.

  12. Same base pads that came with the Shadow 1 Orange?

Might run a want to buy add here. I think most folks who shoot competition don’t use them. To me they felt a little odd and I figured after a few drops on stone or concrete the beauty would fade.

As a counterpoint, I've read a grand total of zero about load development in the couple of books I have from Ben Stoeger.  To paraphrase what I did read: make it good enough then stop screwing with it.

If I have implied anything different than the above that was not my intent. I suspect that "good enough" for Stoeger is "outstanding" for mere mortals.

At a level 2 we had a speed shoot that consisted of paper targets on either end with only the upper portion of the heads exposed, two steel pepper popper activators in the center and no shoots which dropped out of the way momentarily in front of the two paper targets, I think distance was about 15 yards but that is from memory. The idea was that the fast guys would shoot steel steel paper paper and the B class hackers like me would shoot steel paper steel paper. When Bob Vogel shot the stage he shot AA Steel Steel AA and was holstering as the activators were still falling down. That is just one example and maybe not a great one, but it has always been my impression that folks like Stoeger and Vogel make sure that their equipment is good enough to be confident when shooting little things at long distances.

I can’t say enough good about Dillon and Vortex. They 100% stand behind they’re warranties. Even when I admit I’m at fault.

A caveat is that the warranty varies with Dillon. The machines that they consider to be industrial (1050 in my case) do not have the same warranty as the 550. That is not me saying the 1050 warranty is bad, just not as good.

I wouldn’t look forward to having a warranty from EAA. If you change a spring they won’t “honor” the warranty. Sad.

My experience with IFG is pretty much the same.

Love Tanfo's when they are right but quality control and warranty service are not their high water marks.

I have a small frame that takes CZ mags which is a huge benefit in my opinion.

I think which is better may depend on the size of your hands. To me CZ and single stack mags always seemed more difficult to grip consistently on the clock than Tanfo LF and 2011 mags.

Apparently 2 versions will be made. This one is the Heavy with partially cut windows.  A light version will have window cuts going completely thru.  I prefer a heavy hammer for a harder strike.

One day maybe I will understand why a lot of folks prefer a lighter hammer for a harder strike and others prefer a heavier hammer for a harder strike. That day is not today.

Thanks for the review, very interesting, sounds like buying new the PD might be a no brainer when improving from oem. If you already have things right with a Titan, dunno?
