  1. Sorry, this cascaded from another thread....and my preface was...

    Sooo

Lets just say that you had these 3 pistols on the table in front of you....any of which you can have for $100.   AND, you will be removing/refining the trigger group anyway and tuning to 1.8lb pull with nar zero reset.  So trigger group gone or modified.

What would you buy and why?

    Dan Wesson PM9

    Ruger Koenig

    Bul Trophy SAW

  2. Okay, to be clear.

Between the two and only those two, PM9 hands down. I've shot both and IMO the PM9 is the better gun. I currently have a PM9 and a BUL Trophy SAW SS 9mm. Between those two it's a hard choice. Currently I'm liking the BUL better but that may he because it's new and is the tri tone model. And came with lots of extras.

Hmm, so If you had to buy a Bul or PM9 right now, which would you lean to?

  4. I need (well, want) to get back to my single stack competition days.

I am very comfortable doing trigger jobs, fire control alterations.

That being said, and looking to grab a 20K a year runner, any comments on what I should look for (I have owned Infinity, STI trojans/sentry,etc so know the feel etc).

I need to undercut the trigger guard as an added comment.

    Thanks!!

Derek built some very nice pistols.  Hope you did not spend a fortune. Nice pistol. Enjoy and welcome.

Yes he did.  I owned a few of his originals, and actually had him tune a few open pistols that I had many thousands into (S_I)...and should have been fully tweaked from the company, but he just worked his magic and shipped them back to me after a dismal Nationals showing.

Stand up guy, stand up work.  I actually look for his work here if they pop up for sale....

My problem was like yours. With magnified lenses, the front sight is clear but distant objects are blurry. When I went to my eye doctor two years ago, she had me stretch out my hand to mimic my shooting stance and place the number/letters at that distance and had me read them so she can determine which lenses to prescribe. This is very important! She also check my distance vision and it was 20/15 right/left.

She prescribed me with a .75 lens for my right (dominant) eye and no magnification for my left. With this setup, the front sight is clear through my right eye and the distant targets are clear through my left eye. I then took the prescription and had Oakley make the glasses for me.

By the way, I also wear 1.75 readers. My doctor recommended contacts but I told her that I prefer glasses since I will only be using them when I shoot anyway. I think she called it mono vision and can either be glasses or contacts.

    Good luck.

    Thank you.

Can't help you with a Dr down there, but Youngeyes gave me some advice that has helped my iron sight shooting greatly.  I wear a +1.5 multifocal contact in my dominant eye and straight distance prescription in my non-dominant eye.  I can the the serrations on the front sight again.

    Hmm.  Thats interesting.  Prescriptions?

My distance is still fine. the sights are a mess right now.  Glued to screens for 12 hours a day during this Covid mess not helping.

  8. I am looking for suggestions on an eye doctor that can prescribe vision wear for a shooter.

I have great distance clarity, but my 50 year old eyes have progressed poorly over the past couple years in seeing where that iron sight is fitting into the rear sight.

I do not want to do red dots....as want to stick to single stack for the limited amount of shooting I can do with a 3 year old and 100% travel.

Just need to know if any Atlanta area member could recommend me someone whom understands the needs of the sport........appreciated!

  9. So problem resolved.

The hammer pin was either a little out of spec or had a burr, etc.  It would not "spin"/turn.  So the retaining pin almost was wedged in.  I used brass tools to move the hammer pin around (smacking again) trying to find a position where the retaining pin would drop.  Took 20 minutes but ended up getting the situation resolved.

Sanded down hammer pin, and now all is well......

I’ve got 2 A01LDs for CO as well and agree that the hammer retaining pin is a bugger. Once it gets coated in oil, it develops a bit of stuction and won’t drop out easily.

A solid wood block clamped in a vise and many rapid, light taps on the frame is how I got mine out - almost like I vibrated it out.

Taking out the mag catch on the A01LD for the first time was a real learning experience for me too - this was before CZC put out the video on how to do it.

I did exactly that.  Knocking against a piece of 2x4.  Its not budging and I am cutting up the 2x4.  Frustrating as there is no other way to remove this pin.

  11. I just purchased 2 A01-LDs that I am going to run in CO.

Love all about the pistol....except for the hammer pin retaining pin.  Seems theoretically you tip the frame upside down and it falls out......mine doesnt.....even after gentle, semi gentle..not so gentle, firm, very firm, hate this gun hits on a wood block to get it to pop out.

I had it out but when new as it came out with a couple taps but now I am trying to figure out how to get it out......
