In conversation with Aaron Tripp this week on a 40 build.

Excited as it is already in the works and seems I'll be getting it with in a week or two.  They were building a couple of guns for stock and all they a had to do was make some minor alterations to make it MINE!

The pricing compared to other well known builders is better by a lot.

I own Bedell open guns, Akai limited guns etc.

So I'm pumped to get the 1911 from Tripp, Plus I lived for 20 years just west of them so know them and the area.

I'll report back as I finalize and get the pistol.

Only thing now is with the new rules change; gotta make a bracket for a drop on the holsters.

    Great choice!

  2. No, for the most part they were plenty accurate for the game.  I replaced all with EGW and SV parts, and had my triggers at 2lb breaks.

Cast frames were no issue vs Forged for me...and I think the fatigue worrying is just not reality.

The front strap serrations on the Tripp are pronounced and the Trojan has chainlink only...of which I added grip tape.  The Tripp has the highest trigger guard undercut that I have felt, and a square trigger guard (if you grip that way).  Tripp feels more robust and heavier in the hand but well balanced.  Both my Trojan builds and Tripp come under the 43oz USPSA SS requirement...albeit the Tripp was by 1/2 oz while the Trojans were by 2 ounces.

Can't go wrong with either...BUT, after I replaced all parts in the Trojans, including full length guide rod, ambi thumb safety, etc, the Trojan was 1200-1400 plus 600 in parts....that should make your decision easier.

  3. I think dumping the 1911 single stack platform is a mistake.  These were "go to" pistols with undercut trigger guards, easy to change firing components, etc.  I rebuilt over a dozen Trojans and will miss working with them and seeing their contribution to the IPSC/USPSA world as the years go by...

  4. I know this was a topic 5 or so years ago, but am wondering if there are recent offerings.

Really just looking for quality barrel/slide/frame fitment.  I am fairly adept at building from that point as I no longer have larger fitment tools, but have a plethora of SV/EGWEtc parts ready for a build out.

    Any current providers experiences?

  5. Few quick questions.

I have a variety of STI/SVI parts and wanted to build a backup 1911.

I have built only STI Trojans and Sentrys, so know the S-I parts are fairly easy to install.

Any such ease of fitment with the beaver tail profiles/trigger channel/firing system to the DW?

I do prefer the undercut trigger guard I run on my main guns, so anyone modified the DW via dremel, etc?

  6. I have a number of K9s and am wondering how easy it would be to pin or stamp them to accept 10 rounds only?  I know I buy them stamped to 10 rounds, but since I have them already and have a plethora of them, was wondering how easy (and reliable) this could be.  Anybody done this to a K9?  Obviously for production division use.

J, you probably won't know by this weekend on the MBX mags.  The springs are very tight when new and have to be allowed to take a set before using.  MBX suggests you load them fully and let them sit for a week. You can use them after that, but leave them loaded for an additional week.  I did that.  My springs are still perfect after two full seasons.

Mine have been sitting fully loaded for a couple weeks now...trying them out next week.

You could try running .40 S&W or 10mm ammo throught one of these, might work, or it might not.

If you want 9mm/.38 Super, try this place.

    Great catch...

I am looking for a "JIC" situation and a little creativity.  I am going to order the 45 and see if I can tweak it at all..if not, its $15....
