  1. Until you don't miss. I can't put a total on it for you, just for me. Paul
  2. If you forgot a target you must spend more time visualizing the stage. Do this over and over and over. If you "know" where each target is and what it looks like as your vision sweeps across it you will shoot it. Paul
  3. Count the rounds on target to get where to reload. The only time this should change is if you take extra shots. Best practice is to not miss. Paul
  4. First Memphis Charity match Hopalong had a Polish Plate Rack on the back side of a wall with a weight on one side and the popper activator on the other side of the wall. WSB said engage the activator before engaging the plate rack. I did the shot in the berm while running and shot the plate rack static. The RM was called and siad I had to reshoot it and activate it first. Four runs later I finally got a clean run. I protested but did not arb the call. Should have ponied up the $100. Paul Beck Be certain of what the WSB says.
  5. Robert I will bet that since at least two of the RO/CROs are shooting it they will recognize us. Or I won't be there. Paul
  6. Allen Prior to the 8 minor rule change everyone had a 6 shot gun. Almost every stage in my local area was/still is "4 target array" run over there "4 target array" run over here "4 target array". Everyone had the same challenge. Now there is an equipment race. I tried one local match with my 6 shot against another B class shooter with an 8 shot. Every stage I was 10-15 seconds behind due to the standing reload at each array I had to do versus his shoot 8 reload on the run. So every six shot gun is not competitive and you must have an 8 round gun to have much of a chance. Many of the other six shot people were P.O. about having to buy another gun and rig just to keep playing round gun. I sat out for two years and just bought a 929 in Feb. So I am $1750 into getting two more rounds in the gun versus shooting what I already had. Several of my friends have not come back. They switched to other divisions. Paul Beck
  7. I bought mine in Feb. Gun $1100 out the door. Holster and moonclip carrier from Shooters Conn, CR Speed and North Mountain 4 post. 30 moonclips from TK Custom and his loading and unloading tools. Totaled $1650. I had a Hogue extended cylinder release and grips as I do not like the grips with the gun. As suggested above do the polishing on the rebound slide and contact surfaces, change the rebound spring and use a lighter main spring. Chamfer the cylinder. I used a 45 degree counter sink tool chucked in the drill press and turned by hand to cut slowly. Took three hands, one to apply pressure to handle, one to turn chuck, and one to hold cylinder. Afterwards remove the extractor and break the edge of the charge holes with a Dremel as those sharp edges will hang a cartridge on the way in. Sort your brass and buy moonclips to match. I use Win. as I had the most of it versus Fed. I use 147 gr roundnose from Blue Bullets and 4.2 gr of WSF to make 135-140 pf with no extraction problems. You can use a faster powder like TG but I am after ease of extraction in stead of lower cost. Cases fall out with a tap from my weak hand thumb. No holes in the palm from sticky cases. I'm not saying this is THE WAY just how I did mine, YMMV. Paul Beck
  8. Currently using WSF under 150 coated. Titegroup next. Paul
  9. Congratulations Robert. Old guys rule, sometimes. Paul
  10. 929 Eddie. See you and Paul at SC Sectional in two weeks. Paul
  11. I decided to go back to shooting revolver. Got the gun from a coworker who is an FFL and decided on TK Custom mooncips and tools. I've run a CR Speed for 12 years so I stayed with that from Shooters Connection. Placed both orders on Thursday afternoon, got both shipments on Monday. Everything in stock, everything I ordered showed up. When i was in the car repair business we called it "Three and Thirty" Do a great job for a low price and the customer might tell their three best friends. Let there be a problem and the customer will tell thirty complete strangers how bad you treated them. This is me telling three friends these are good people to do business with. Paul Beck
  12. Alec Do you mean shorten the leg of the notch on the left side? Or something else? Change the angle, maybe? Thanks Paul
  13. Nope. I disassembled all of the parts but the cylinder stop and spring, Nothing would move it further forward. Using magnifer could not see any burrs around the hole in the frame. Same with the bolt. The round section is reduced in cross section slightly before if reaches the flat area that contacts the frame. The stud for the release had 30-40 thousandths gap to the front of it's hole. Either the round cylinder part of the bolt is too short or the milling for the flat face did not go far enough. It shoots nice so far (100 rds,) so it's not going back to Smith unless something breaks. I'm shooting it at the SC Sectional end of the month so I'm in a hurry to get it tuned and a load worked up. Paul
  14. I just purchased a new 929 to shoot in USPSA. Currently a B class using a K frame and Comp 3s. Trying to open the cylinder using the trigger finger does not work. I checked the bolt and it is about 10 thousands short of flush with the recoil shield. Researching here told me it should be flush or cause the hole to become egg shaped from forcing it open. The bolt is the problem as it did not move forward with the release removed and it is not touching the hole in the side for the stud for the release. I do not see any burrs on either the bolt or the frame. This is a black coated MIM part I believe. 1. Is it safe to file the face until it is flush? 2. Does it need to be hardened after filing? 3. What should i use as an anti corrosion coating? 4. Or should I buy another and see if it is a better fit? I believe the MIM parts should be identical so I'm thinking this isn't likely to solve my problem. Is there a simple way to reduce tension on the ball detent on the crane? Unloaded starts with the K frame mean push the release with thumb and push cylinder open with finger as left hand grabs speedloader, faster for me than using both hands to get the gun open and then reach for loader. I'd like to continue to use this technique if I can. Thanks Paul Beck
  15. Just sent Linda the request to change to Revolver. Still shooting on Friday with the rest of the staff. Be sure to say Hi on Saturday. Paul Beck A49023
  16. Augusta Ga and Charleston(Summerville) SC have active USPSA clubs. Palmetto (Summerville) shoots first Saturday and Pinetucky (Augusta) shoots third Saturday. Paul
  17. What Moto said. I don't want believe the people who stated that they "Knew" they jumped the start and continued on. That is not gaming, that is cheating. I just lost a lot of respect for some shooters. Paul Beck
  18. Glad to be able help. If you run out of hammers to molest I have a large bin of 9mm brass you can sort by headstamp for me. Paul
  19. Decided to switch back to round gun and ordered a 929. Apex website states "out of stock" on N-frame hammers. Wait or get out the Dremel? If I cut is there a diagram available to show where to cut to or is it hack till it looks good? Does the firing pin need to be changed out or should I try it as is? Thanks Paul Beck
  20. Yes. Politely ask for someone else. Paul
  21. It seems the round tips over backwards as the base is pushed. Try using a small wire or bent metal strip to push the case similar to the older wire ejector. If that works Hornady still sells the old ejector wire. Paul Beck
  22. Case feeder. There are several tweeks to flawless operation on 9mm. Put a 'Kicker' in the feed bowl to prevent cases that are not in a slot from causing a problem. Narrow the width of the funnel below the feed bowl opening to prevent cases falling in sideways and blocking the path. Add a piece of plastic tubing around the final drop tube to keep cases from bouncing off the plate. Look at the pictures in this thread: My experience with the RCBS lockout die is that it will allow a low charge on 9mm( I have a bulged barrel to prove it). So avoid low charge weight powders like Clays or Bullseye and use something that fills the case at least half way. I do use it for every case I load, but I changed from trying to get the cheapest(least powder) loads to something in the middle of the range. YMMV. Paul Beck
