Most versatile revolver for multiple orgs/divisions?
paul788 replied to TFin04's topic in Revolver Forum
You can run factory ammo in a 929. Mine has popped mostly Win white box 115 for factory stuff as I use Win brass to reload and TK moonclips. If you want a lighter than factory trigger then that limits what you can feed it. I'm in the 7 lb range on the trigger and so far everything goes bang. What you can't have is a sub 5 lb trigger and expect to run factory ammo. If you can deal with the heavy trigger get the right moonclips and shoot factory. Then work up a load and get the trigger work. I am running Blue Bullets 150 gr rn and WSF. 140 pf as I will not risk sub minor again. I can use Win primers instead of Fed at the weight I currently have on the trigger. YMMV Paul Beck -
Revo shooters at SC and NC Section Matches

Eddie If you hadn't gold plated that Highpoint you could get what it's worth out of it. Paul -
Bosshoss I did remove a fair amount from the frame contact area of the bolt to get it to flush with the face. This helped a lot with the opening. I will try Alec's suggestion of changing the angle on the detent v-notch. Thanks Paul

I believe you have COVERED this topic completely. Paul

Thanks Alec. This is advice that is useful. I'll try that later today. I had been storing the gun slightly open to keep pressure on the ball spring to see if that would decrease the spring tension. Paul

Randy Lee Calls Shots Classifieds 516 posts Posted September 11, 2006 Hi Guys, Just a quick note- if you cut either the center pin or extractor springs, be sure to close the open end. The open end can cause excess drag and scoring/wear in the inside of the yoke or worse become unseated and tie up the cylinder when you least expect it. After finding this I thought "if it's good enough for Randy to do". Paul

Trying to get the 929 like my K-frame that I can open with trigger finger when doing an unloaded start. How much do I shorten the spring? Thanks Paul

For those who run .45 acp try the Berry's 185 hollow base round nose bullet. Same profile as a 230 but less weight. YMMV Paul(not an IDPA shooter)

Pass on the 625 and get a 929. I paid a 1K for a new one, my buddy just bought a complete gun and rig for $650. You can run cheap WWB ammo. She will not like the recoil of the 625 and major PF ammo. 929 v 627: you can run .357mag but it's not useful for any of the games we play. Clips for either: buy TK/Hearthco for a specific brand of brass. The 9mm clips are thicker and therefor more durable than the .22-.25 for the .357/.38. The short ammo works better for me than the .38spl. YMMV Paul Beck

LnL AP: Problems with 357 aligning with sizing die
paul788 replied to jamesp81's topic in non-Dillon Reloading Equipment
Late to this party. I have the same issue with 9mm. Solved with a bit of Coke can and some tape. Cut a T shape that wraps most of the way around the base of the die with the leg of the T pointing down. Cross bar of T is as wide as gap from bushing to edge of die. Leg width is narrow 1/8-3/16". Fold the leg so that the free end points to the die opening, trim to length. You should have a ramp that just touches the case before it hits the die. Holds it straight and does not get bent because it fits the slot in the shell plate. Took two tries to get it to work. You can use tape or shrink tape to hold it on. I didn't have a zip tie small enough to clear shell plate so used two wraps of tape. I did it this way so that the die/bushing will still go in and out with the kicker installed. If this is not detailed enough post and I will get a pic. Paul -
Anyone one else running the old style wire ejector? Just bought the first FCD and it hits the wire if adjusted low enough to crimp. What did you do to get them to work together? First thought was mark the die and grind a relief to clear the wire. Just have to install it the same way each time. Thanks Paul

I just picked up a used stainless P16 Limited to use for USPSA to replace the P14 that I've been using since '05. It has a magwell and extended mag release. Evidently the barrel has been throated as I can do the "plunk" test with ammo loaded to 1.200". What do you use for a recoil spring/mainspring combo? And what bullet weight do you use? I asked TT what he used and the answer was a 10 lb recoil spring and no shock buff. Thanks Paul

Talking to another revo shooter and asked if he knew of any Fed SPP for sale. HE told me about the Cabelas backorder and I decided to check the local spots before placing another backorder. First place I called had 20K @150 per 5k. I got them all. Not buying a lottery ticket 'cause I already used up this year's luck. Paul

Started to load up some .38 spl for the ICORE Postal Match and all of the brass was rough and some had tarnish pits and discolored spots. All of it was tumbled and clean when I set the .38 down and ran Limited for three years. What can I do to keep it clean and bright in storage? It might sit for 2-3 years before I go back to it again. Thanks Paul

Move this to the Revo forum. Several members do shoot IDPA and will have an answer. Paul

Check for the wire moving the case feed shuttle being centered in the slot of the plate the shuttle rides on. I bent the attachment and it was rubbing on the side of the slot. The shuttle still moved but the wire was wearing on the side. Paul

I have a large frame 9mm Witness with fixed sights. Who makes a mount for any of the mini red dot sights that don't require that I mill the slide to adjustable sight slot size? Thanks Paul

What is safe to use that is stronger than Blue Locktite? I am guessing that the heat is breaking the bond. Cleaned with acetone, blew dry with compressor, blue locktite and let dry for 36 hrs. Lasted less than 225 rds before screw was 1/4 turn loose. Thanks Paul

Factory sight on a 929 is exactly the width of the A zone at 20 yds. I am considering a narrower sight and will probably choose a FO. Two in the black at the NC Sectional cost me a stage win. What does everyone else use? Thanks Paul

Short answer: Yes. Sarcastic answer: No, all the GMs that train others reccommend it to handicap the U and D class shooters that just started and keep beating the GMs. Paul

Hornady LnL Case Feeder Tip Stop
paul788 replied to ben b.'s topic in non-Dillon Reloading Equipment
You can achieve the same result with a number of things. I use a section of Coke can and two Gem clips to flip any cases not in the slots back to the pile of brass on the low side. The thread he links to on THR shows a section of tubing that rests on the bottom flat of the bowl and curves up to the side. Paul
