  1. Our club has gone totally to the new Range Master design. Two things we like, no tools needed to adjust them and the base is the same for all the poppers. If we want to change from a full size popper to a mini just pull one out put the other in, the base does not change or have to be taken out. We have built racks to hang them on in our storage sheds, much easier to keep secured from general club use.

  2. I had Primary Machine do two slides, one on my SP-01 and another on a 320 Compact. The SRO does require a plate for the SP-01. I have been shooting it at matches for a year and have had no issues. PM price also includes cerakote of the slide. I am very happy with the work they did.

That’s about the plan my wife and I are planning. I am shooting Saturday so we will drive down Friday afternoon.

Any idea if there is a prize table and/or raffle we would need to be present for on Sunday after the last group wraps up?

This is just a trophy match. We are trying to resurrect this match and it is hard to get a prize table for a well established match. Plus one day shooting format, people are not sticking around for a final day prize table.  We will mail out the trophies for those not there on Sunday.

I agree, I replaced my very old shooting chrony last year, and looked at the Labradar and ProChrono DLX. I went with the ProChrono because of the app. I’m very happy with it, and the price was very reasonable. I used it a lot this past year only because I’ve been shooting so many different bullet brands. Normally once I lock in a load, the chrono sits on the shelf for a long time before I need it again, only if I have to work up a new load. It’s a great value.

What is special about the mobile app?

  5. I second what dansedgli said about Labradar. I can chrono 5 different loads from 3 guns in less than 30 minutes. If I am doing rifles I can get velocity out to 200 yards easily. This needs a good tripod, no pistol rest to keep from shooting the chronograph or screens. It works any time of the day, any time of year.

  6. The 2021 AZ State USPSA Championship is scheduled for Sept. 17, 18 & 19 in Prescott AZ. This will be a Level II match with 8 stages and will be shot in a single day. You can shoot any of the three days schedule. Registration in PractiScore opens at 6:00 pm on July 19th, $100 match fee. Always looking for staff to work; staff will be comped 50% if you work 1 day and 100% if you work 2 days.

  7. I am never a fan of the term "must" because people always find a way to do it but not the way you intend. As you note it is not really freestyle either. I did a Christmas theme match where you had Santa's bag in your hand, it had to be dropped down a chimney to activate the stomp pad. It wasn't so big they couldn't throw the bag ,but the opening was small enough that missing really cost you. I would say if you made a prop like the carry on bag check in the airports you could force most shooters to use the bag to activate. Make it such that it really just fit down into it from straight overhead, was boxed in enough where putting your foot there was not a good choice ands throwing it was not likely to be successful. Most shooters will look at the risk/reward and do exactly what you desire them to do.

What are you doing until you drop the bag, are there targets to engage?

  8. I started shooting Limited as a C shooter, did some SS but that was about it. When I got to B class, switched to Limited 10, brought that up to B class. Then grabbed the SS gun and moved my self up to B class. Fell in love with a CZ and started shooting Production, been shooting that for a couple years pretty exclusively and close to A now. If I get to A in Production going to go back to SS and see if I can get to A there. Did just buy an open gun and have CO too. Could pick one of those and see if I can get them out of C class.

  9. I use 147 but more of a truncated cone. I have this problem on occasion. Usually I find that a bullet is not falling all the way into the rotary. Makes indexing hard or impossible, have to reach in and push it down with something. I only use moly coated lead, may also be an issue.

  10. That is a pretty common problem for right handers. You will see a lot of mid-level shooters trying to plan always going to the right even if it is longer just for that reason. As RJH said now that you are aware make extra sure where the muzzle is if moving left and reloading. On not getting caught, in local matches with just on RO they are on the right and would not usually see that. Go to larger matches where a RO sits out on the left side of the stage and you can get caught; seen it several times.

  11. I was the RO behind Chris when this happened. At first I called Chris on this so we stepped back after the scoring and looked at the rules. As Chris says, there is no definitive statement in the rule book to rule against him. I seem to recall in the back of my tiny little mind a rule years back that stated that all reloads must come from the belt unless the WSB stated otherwise. After searching, I couldn't find it in the rule book. This could be put to rest by adding such a statement in the rule book. I'm a bit surprised that somebody hasn't done this at a major match and then pushed the issue after being penalized.

    Pat

I would bet that it has not been done at a major because they are pretty sure they would lose. Rule 5.2.4 says all spare ammo must be carried in retention devices on the belt..

  12. I would have to say not the same comparison. The original question was around a mandatory reload per a requirement in a WSB. In the instance as described you can shoot one drop a mag, re-insert it after every shot if you like. Drop a mag on the ground, pick it up and repeat, as long as it is done safely. All of these though I think are part of reloading. As soon as the round goes off there are several decisions to make. I guess it could be argued that maybe if the round goes near a target that it is not a DQ but. If you are bent over picking up a mag, are inserting a mag I would say DQ. Rules 10.4.6 a shot which occurs during movement, except while shooting at targets; rule 10.5.9 failure to keep finger out of trigger guard during reloading or 10.5.10 failure to keep finger out of trigger guard during movement. Just my opinion, ultimately it becomes the RM call.

  13. If you start with a loaded, holstered gun and then got asked where is your additional/spare ammo what would you say? In my mag pouches, I don't think I could say in my gun. Rule 5.2.4 also says that after the start signal, spare ammunition, magazines shall be carried in retention devices attached to competitors belt and specifically designed for that purpose. So I would read that as not being able to carry spare ammo in your gun, even though it is attached to a holster on your belt.

  14. The word additional is not defined in the rule book. What would you call ammo that isn't in the gun? I would call it additional ammo.

    ad·di·tion·al

    • added, extra, or supplementary to what is already present or available.

Pretty clear. Common usage of the English language. We are not Bill Clinton, and if it gets there, I WILL stop shooting UPSA entirely.

Right on the money, words have meanings. Not every term has to be defined in the rule book. Prone is not defined either, does that mean standing upright qualifies as shooting prone because the RO can't point to the definition in the rule book?
