  1. Since I've driven two states away for club matches and all over for big matches.......I feel confident I can safely say that the Lead Farm matches are the best thing going, and the best prep matches for big matches possible. A steal at $30 and would make a solid model for anyone putting a match on.
  2. That depends on how sensitive you are to it. With my .308 it went from heavily over gassed to where it wouldn't run with a can and had relatively stout recoil, to slightly heavier than .223 in recoil shooting the same FGMM 168gr ammo. I shot that gun A LOT and was really used to it, and with 223 having less recoil, you might have to shoot guns side by side to notice mug difference.
  3. Wide tac frame or standard? My new build uses a 5" tac frame that's the same width as the slide and afraid my current GCode holster won't work.
  4. I personally like big stages with relatively equal round counts for each gun.....for me, 15-20 shotgun shells on each stage isn't a bad thing when we do that many with pistol and rifle.
  5. It's not a dumb question at all. I've had several rifles with full weight components and adjustable gas blocks. It's no uncommon for rifles to be overgassed, especially if you start to play with silencers. I've had rifles, one .308 in particular, that just would not run with a silencer attached until an adjustable gas block was added to cut down on the amount of gas, then it ran great! You may see more benefit by running a LW BCG and/or LW buffer system along with the adjustable gas, but it's not a part without merit outside of a full blown competition gun.
  6. Warne scope mounts.......they support a lot of matches and shooters, and the mount is solid.
  7. Most people fighting for the top spots are using what they see as the best possible gear. If the best scope in the game was $150, it's what would be used. It's not like expensive gear equates to a status symbol, otherwise we would all dump out $1400 Vortex HD's for $2500-2800 1-6 scopes from other companies.
  8. For the distances you are shooting and primarily only shooting club level matches, the Strike Eagle would serve you very well. The 1-6 Razor HD is a huge jump up IMO, but probably not something that will give you a huge advantage for anything but selfies and Instagram.
  9. I swapped my Taccom tube on to my A5 in place of the Nordic that I ran on there in 2015. The Taccom tube is using a thicker walled tubing and has both male and female threads on each tube, eliminating the need for a coupler. With my nordic tube, I was using a clamp, and don't feel it is necessary for the Taccom tube. I got in 4, 5, and 6 rd tubes along with a barrel nut and end cap. The barrel nut knurling is really nice for a good grip, the end cap has the same knurling. Since the endap and barrel nut thread into one another, it's easy for me to reduce down to a hunting length and not have to use a super long plug. My Nordic tube gave me zero issues this year and I have nothing negative to say about it whatsoever, I just find the Taccom tube to be built stouter and the male/female threading to be more convenient. ** disclaimer, I am sponsored by Taccom and received my tubes as part of my sponsorship.
  10. Wish we could do both types of matches on different times of the year, but glad to have another major 3-gun match relatively close to home. Hoping I make the cut at registration.
  11. Not yet. Using them to kind of "prototype" a new/old way to do offset iron sights to see if they could be viable.
  12. I have a set of them. They're "almost there", but weren't fast enough for me. Have them being chopped down and pistol sights dovetailed in to see if they are better.
  13. Armalite. I have one in my safe from a prize table and I'm impressed with it. The adjustable comp and gas block should let you really tune it for you. It's not a ton behind my competition rifle that is much more expensive.
  14. This is being added to the list of possible matches right meow!
  15. Agree......if you're doing it for weight savings, you aren't saving enough to worry about.
  16. I have one because it's on the gun, but I don't think I've tried to use one for anything but a press check to make sure the bolt was seated when charging the gun at make ready. If the gun is properly maintained and oiled, I doubt you'd ever miss it.
  17. After a couple years of shooting and being at majors all over the country, shooting outlaw, 3GN, and USPSA MG rulesets.......well, they're all screwed up in one form or another, and there are aspects of each one that I find to be asinine, useless, a trap,.... 3GN may not have always been the best with PR, and there are a number of former 3GN shooters/Pro Series shooters who won't shoot it anymore. I get the sentiment and understand some of the reasonings. I think there have been some more positive aspects from their ruleset that I did like, hot-reholstering for one, and others that I haven't liked. It's one interpretation of how things should be. USPSA multigun rules have lead to several local shooters around here to refuse to shoot certain matches because they would have to be a member for a small (minimal to no prize table) match, and USPSA has a couple really stupid and redundant rules that make people's heads spin. When you have shooters who only use long guns to hunt writing the rules, well, that's what you get! Outlaw rules have been anywhere from "near USPSA" or "near 3GN", to "yeeeeeehhhaaaaaaawwwwwwwwww, We Wild West it 'round here!" And MarkCO is right....some are just flat out poorly copied and pasted sections of rulesets that exist somewhere else. I've even HEARD people say "we just copied XXXXX's ruleset." Publishing it on their website is plagiarism correct? When I shoot club matches where there is only 3-gun, I hear things about "bigboy rules" when it comes to a rule that might be used that other matches don't allow.....but I rarely hear a single thing about a need to associate with any particular organization. Perhaps it's because there has yet to be any major incidents there to date, I don't know. When I shoot club matches at locations where there are USPSA matches held, I've heard one major thing stand out. The established USPSA shooters recommend over and over that the multigun group associate with ANYONE....just as long as they can show a defined ruleset and organization association. Their claim is that being associated with a well defined ruleset could protect that club in the instance that something bad occurred on the range, and possibly limit liabilities. I've yet to hear a single one say it HAD to be USPSA or HAD to be 3GN rules....just that it could offer some protection. I can understand the reasoning......"shooter X did not follow the rules clearly stated in x.xx.xxx.xx.x and signed the entry waiver that he had read and understood the rules, therefore we cannot be held solely responsible for his self induced gun shot" The argument about the "perfect ruleset" will be eternal with this niche group of shooters......why? Because we can't agree upon whether or not to use stage points vs. total time, hot reholster vs. dump buckets only, can a long gun be cleared muzzle down into a barrel while the shooter progresses downrange (something I've seen at EVERY ruleset), DQ vs penalty for dumping a 2011 with 2lb trigger and thumb safety disengaged (vs. an M&P or Glock with similar weight trigger being dumped the same way)......... everyone will continue to have different answers. I don't think 3GN is going away any time soon, and neither are Outlaw matches or even some USPSA multigun matches........I could see this being an IDPA vs. IPSC vs. USPSA debate down the road.
  18. I shoot nothing but AA's (brass)......Tim and I talked about it and the top heads have been redesigned to work better with them. I should have them in before long to do some more testing.
  19. Is there video of that posted anywhere? I would very much like to see it, that is crazy fast. Just a loading video, or shot to shot? If I can get someone to come practice with me or help at an upcoming match, I should be able to get a video shot to shot. It's not crazy fast tho....Aaron Hayes had the same around 2.9 seconds IIRC!
  20. I specifically bought the A5 for matches with empty gun starts and have been really happy with it. I've had an M2 much longer.
  21. I've shot a little TacIrons with an Aimpoint T1 and an M4s and liked them both. My astigmatism in my right eye isn't super helpful tho. I would like to eventually try the prism version of Vortex's 1x line in case I decide to play in TacIrons/Factory a little more. I will likely be trying a Vortex Razor 1x dot when I finally pick up then SBR a CZ Scorpion Evo for fun.....or for a pistol carbine division if the chance arises!
