  1. It should be a commercially available powder as the round comes from Georgia Arms. I can't really imagine them ha ing a special powder like Hornady or other big names might. Thanks for confirming that I might actually be able to do this the way my head says was possible.
  2. Ok so I've found a 77gr .223 load that i Like pulled a bullet to weigh out powder and what not. .224 Sierra Match BTHP bullet 77gr 2.240 OAL 24.3 Gr of powder that looks like the following They Spec the round at 2800 FPS, i'm not sure what barrel length though but I'll have some numbers saturday out of my rifle saturday. Any Ideas on powder? or am I chasing a fools errand to try and duplicate a round this way? I figured most y'all have seen way more powders than I.
  3. hmmm. So looks like on a 6 power scope that the reticle being smaller like a red dot isn't exactly a good thing then. Guess it's back to the drawing board.
  4. ok. that's about as straight as i could want. Seems like that's about as good of a scope as i'll find then without dipping into the 2k+ range where the Schmidt and Benders live.
  5. I've been using the Elite 1-6.5, BTR-2 in FFP since January and love it. I went with the FFP on the BTR-2 because it's a mil reticle and I want the subtensions to be correct at whatever magnification I'm on. I don't always use the scope on 1x or 6.5x. Yes, the illuminated horseshoe is a little small at 1x but I haven't noticed that to be an issue. The eye relief on the scope and the brightest illumination setting make it easy for me to put on target. I did look through an 8x once and honestly don't think that the extra magnification is worth the trade off in eyebox relief / field of view. The 6.5x has been good enough for me to shoot a 10" plate at 500 yards and a IPSC at 600 yards so I'm good with that. hows the illumination on the 6.5 ? bright enough to be used during a bright day or no? I can't seem to get a straight answer on it by looking at reviews.
  6. So I'm looking at the Bushnell Elite Tactical line of scopes for 3 gun, not sure whether the 6.5 or 8.5 power yet. As far as 3 gun goes would First focal plane be better or second focal plane. I like the fact that on the 8 power scope the FFP reticle goes down to about the size of a red dot a 1 power. What's the consensus here on FFP or SFP for 3 gun
  7. ya my eyesight just isn't that good. I whine using a 9 power scope on our .22 200 yard sniper matches. (it works but 12 would really help). So I dunno. But for about 1k I'm def looking into the bushnell 1-6.5. Thanks Onagoth for bringing it to my attention. which reticle did you go with?
  8. wasn't aware that they made one. Going to do some research now. Is it daytime visible like the 1-8 was?
  9. and i'm not sure on budget yet, I can justify 1k i think if its worth it. I like the looks of the new primary arms 1-6 with the acss reticle but it's not daylight visible supposedly. Wish it was that would be a no brainer. I've had nice S&B scopes before but I bought a 3x9 bushnell ar optics and was surprised by how good the glass was. cheap scopes aren't nearly as bad as 10 or 15 years ago.
  10. with contacts my eyesight isn't that bad, finally fixed my astigmatism which oddly enough really helped my pistol shooting more than i thought, haven't spent much time behind glass to notice a big difference
  11. So just getting into the sport now, most of my rifle is built. Still trying to decide on an optic. What's y'alls stance on 1-4 vs 1-6 or 1-8? Just my personal thoughts say the more magnification the better for long distance. I'd like to be able to hit at 400 yards no problems, is a 1-4 really enough for that? Seems like alot of people are running the MTAC 1-4 as far a the "cheap" scope go. Then there is the crowd i see running the Razor HD II for a hefty price bump And then I just saw the bushnell 1-8 elite tactical i think at a local gun shop and was VERY impressed for what it was for 1800 bucks. .. . is the extra 2 power really worth the average almost 1k increase in price for a 1-6? and if so what's another say 500 for a 1-8?
  12. My old SP1 weighs in at 5.9 lbs with a bushnell trs-25. (pencil barrel plastic handguards and moe stock, oh an no forward assist or fences.)
  13. I haven't bought the barrel yet. and i'm undecided whether to buy the supermatch barrel or the barrel kit with their gas block. I was looking at SLR rifle works and their DA-9 gas block but it says for the ar-10 platform. Any reason why this wouldn't work on and ar with the correct size at the barrel for the gas block? here is a link to the product page http://www.slrrifleworks.com/DA9
  14. ok that's news to me, Guess i'll be going with the 1-4. then.
  15. Ok so with some Xmas cash i'm looking to finish my new AR build for 3 gun. What i've got so far is the following Built lower with carbine buffer tube, still haven't decided on trigger has a stock "mil-spec" for now BCM upper receiver borrowing the bolt from my Colt SP1 The following is what I'm thinking of buying to finish it off, let me know if y'all see any problems as far as reliability or 3 gun issues JP 18 in Medium contour barrel. Gas block is still in the air as that barrel needs a .936 gas block and I'd like to go adjustable Would like to run something like the troy alpha rail 15 or samson evolution 15 but adjustable gas blocks for .936 are slim pickings and might not fit, AP customs carbon tube if not. for the muzzle brake i'm considerign the JP standard size or a benny hill rolling thunder. Then i'm trying to decide whether to run a 1-4 optic as that is what the budget will allow for now, or go with the viper pst 2.5-10 and offset irons. Seems like the 2.5-10 would really help on the distance stuff and the offset irons would still be blazing quick on the close stuff. Anyone see any problems with this or changes that I'll need to make to get it reliable?
  16. Prk I'm in Alabama so ya bit being a bigger guy about 6ft and 250 lbs let's me get away with a bit more. Hell I never notice the weight. The width and length of the grip dictates concealability and I also hate those two rules. My bigger problem is not being able to drop a mag that maybe empty but yet retain one in the chamber. 17. I carry my Sig x5 on an almost daily basis. Don't carry at work unless I'm on the road in the truck but other than that I do my best. The Lanes will confirm that it's with me 90 percent of the time, and general carry two spare Mags. Not to say that my astra a75 doesn't also get some Duty when extra concealment is necessary. Hell I carried the sig for 4 months with a red dot on it. Gamer gun or not, I carry what I train with. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk
  18. My pet load for bbi 147gr is 3.3 grains vvn320 1.130 Oal Chrono says 900 fps plus or minus 10 fps. 5 in barrel sig x5 Sent from my SGH-I747 using Tapatalk 2
  19. I know the top ends can be swapped around as long as they are the newer style version. The old stamped west German slides are too tight. My main concern is shooting 40 major on the alloy frame of the x5 as they don't sell a .40 cal version.
  20. Is the x5 all round not production legal out of the box?
  21. Here's my question I have a X5 Tactical in 9mm. Could I buy a X5 slide in .40 cal and then mags and run that on my frame? Next question could I even manage to buy just the Slide? (barrel, and recoil assembly included) From SIG?
  22. I recently did a stage where I was holding 2 drinks prior to the buzzer drop and draw ya know? I tossed them up to find one come back into my line of sight and that threw the entire stage plan out the window missed the gun by maybe a foot. (luckily someone thought of emptying the drinks earlier) I've also thrown a door open to have it almost knock the gun out of my hand the the point that the RO called stop. I didn't get DQ'd but ya gotta keep the hulk in check sometimes.
  23. EDIT I did not see the above post before writing mine. Bewarned but i rack the slide SLOWLY so I seriously doubt this would ever happen to me but YMMV a great tip for those of you that have forward serrations on the slide put the gun upside down use your weak hand on the forward serrations and let the round fall into your hand then grab the rear of the slide and show the RO that it is clear and deposit round into pants pocket for later comedy when you go looking for that last penny.
  24. I shoot my X-5 Tactical in 9mm in IDPA ESP. Just starting to settle into the finer points of the gun now. It's awesome. Had to shave the safety down a hair to fit the IDPA box, but otherwise she's been good to go. Loves to eat the 147gr home loads all day long and recoil is a joke. Just wish Sig would release an IDPA compliant version when brand new.
  25. Away from the gun this week. Otherwise i would. Sent from my Thrive using tapatalk2
