  1. I reread your post. Not sure what your application is but as Rowdy said, develop the load then optimize function and feel with spring weight.
  2. I've used Shot Coach to analyze my video from a match. Movement and splits are the two biggest things I learn about.
  3. Makes sense to me. I've started doing it. It doesn't take much room.
  4. For 200 gn I use 5.3 gn of Titegroup and 185 is 5.7 gn of Titegroup. What's more important is your STD. To ensure you meet PF, start by adding 2 times your STD to the velocity required to meet power factor for your bullet weight. Go up from there as needed to optimize accuracy or increase margin. My STD is consistently 15 fps for these loads so I add 30 fps to the velocity needed to meet PF. I don't bother to calculate the PF.
  5. I use the springco rod with their 10# spring. Works great.
  6. Another thought. Can you get a Springco recoil management guide rod? They are $100. I personally like them. I run both 200 gn and 185 gn RNFP with a 12 lb recoil spring. Just a thought.
  7. Did it pass all the safety tests? Even dropping the slide on an empty chamber? When ever I work on my trigger, I drop the slide about 4 or 5 times just to make sure its stable.
  8. Good info. I have 6 of the 10 rd McCormick mags and always had problems just practicing with them.
  9. I'm relearning my grip and just took a 3 day class from Ron Avery. I learned it just as Memphis described, from the elbows to the hands. Everything else should be relaxed.
  10. How's it going? I've been using a similar drill to what hammer mentioned but it starts at 5 secs, then drops in tenths once you reach optimum performance. Key is to make sure every detail is correct and lock that into your brain.
  11. KP, I'm 6' and reload standing. I use a Hornady Lock n Load progressive. My bench top is at 36.75 and I use the Inline Fabrication bench top press mount. It adds another 9.5 inches to the base of the press. Using the factory Hornady press handle (not the extended aftermarket), this is a comfortable standing height for reloading. Just another data point. Hope it helps.
  12. I recently used Fedex to ship 1500 rounds one state away. Cost was $36. Fedex process is the same as UPS. And as 3guns stated, the stores don't know and will send you on a wild goose chase. Start with your nearest ground shipping office. You could also call an air freight office and see if they will accept your package on behalf of ground shipping. I was able to do that at my local Fedex Air Shipment location.
  13. I've been using the New Dimension dies in 40 for about a year. I've loaded 10k rnds and they work great. Just follow the directions when setting them up and you won't have any problems.
  14. I'm in Colorado and Cabelas and Sportsmans are ok for bulk reloading supplies when in stock. Bass pro doesn't even offer bulk package sizes ( more than 100 bullets or primers) and their prices are outrageous!
  15. Don't waste your ammo. See this post for a simple and proven method to meet power factor. Shoot with any questions.
  16. I find the nearest larger drill bit size (metric or standard) then I fit it. You might be able to find a 1.8mm bit. I use a dremmell and fine paper to reduce the diameter and cut to length. It doesn't take much time once you find the right bit.
  17. I didn't realize the match barrel I bought was drop in. Wasn't happy with the accuracy at first. It had front to back and side movement so I had the hood welded for $30 and I refit the barrel snug. Now able to get about 1.5" bench group at 15 yards. Last round in mag doesn't feed sometimes. I still need to tune my mags so that may be the problem. Im using STI mag body with Gram guts and Dawson base pads. 20 reloadable before tuning. Im also running a Springco recoil system with a 10# spring. Runs very smooth.
  18. A couple notes. I went with the Briley spherical ring and barrel bushing. Easier to install and works great. You can order one at powerfactorshooting.com. I prefer a flat trigger but the SVI trigger and insert is pricey so I use the curved STI trigger but installed a steel bar into it. Don't know if you noticed that. I like it a lot. It gives me better trigger feedback than just the flat (and much wide) triggers.
  19. I wasn't able to ensure perfect frame to slide trueness even using a frame fitting jig. Had to manually remove a couple high spots and just went a tiny bit too far. Should have stopped when it was snug and then hand lapped it. Still got a smooth fit with just slight movement. I prefer no movement and glass smooth fit for my competition guns. Besides the front not lining up, the rear of the slide overhangs about a 16th of an inch and is not blended to the frame. Both are purely cosmetic. Nothing I can do about the front and I don't want to refinish the slide so it's good for now.
  20. Yes I have. I did basically the same thing last year and use it for limited now. I bought a para pro comp 40 slide and match barrel and put it on the CK arms classic frame. Runs great and got into limited for about $1400 with mags. Tricky part is fitting frame to slide. I assume your frame is new. It came out better than box but not as nice as I hoped. Running it in the raw this season and will hard chrome the frame at end of season. Will post pics when I get a chance.
  21. I had the same experience as d_striker. Didn't get much out of other instruction but when I took Charlie's class I had a notepad full of stuff to work on. I found Charlie's style of teaching to be exceptional. He is very well organized and very thorough. His class is very reasonably priced and the quality of the instruction is outstanding!
  22. The declared bullet weight is allowed if a properly calibrated scale is not available or an acceptable bullet puller isn't available. See Appx C2 10 and 13.
