Hi all,
After a practice session of around 200 rounds, I noticed about 1/2 inch of the end of my tungsten guide rod sticking out from my long dust cover SVI frame (5" barrel). Upon dissassembly, I found that the guide rod had separated. It does not appear to thread back together (tried a vice and pliers already).
How should I fix this? Never had a 2 piece rod before.
Thanks!
I've seen dramatic differences in the powder delivered with my Dillon and VVN320 as well with low charges, for example 4.2gr. When 5.0gr are delivered, the inconsistent probelme go away. Have cleaned it many times, still the same problem.
Try TJ at tjscustomgunworks.com
TJ has fixed problems on my pistols caused by other so-called gunsmiths. He's very fast and professional. He builds/modifies great IPSC/IDPA guns.
I can recommend him highly.
What is the proper way to leave the hammer when storing a 1911/2011 pistol for storage (a few weeks to months)? Assuming the pistol is cleaned and well-lubed for protection of course.
Does it make a difference?
Thanks.
I like comp-tac products as well, but which model should I order to fit the tapered-widebody S_I mags?
Comp-tac does not list a mag holder specific for these? Will a double-stack holder work?
Thanks for the help.
There's nothing like some NRA quotes and photos of 2nd Amendment supporters around a reloading area!
Thanks for editing Flex - I wasn't sure how to get the pic to show up.
Hi Bob,
How about:
1) how and why to tune magazines
2) proper cleaning and lubrication procedures for a 1911/2011 limited/open pistol
3) a guide to basic modifications: 2011 grip change, magwell change, etc.
Love the articles!
Thanks.
Hi Bob,
What's your opinion on using an STI Recoil Master vs solid guide rods (tungsten or stainless) in a .40 STI Limited pistol?
Pros/cons of each?
Thanks.
I would recommend a 18-20" barrel with a good compensator or magnaport. I've been using a 24" bull barrel with magnaporting and find it too long and muzzle heavy for fast target transitions.
Check out Bushmaster, DPMS, and Rock River Arms flat-top uppers.
Thanks for the info. I'll probably just stay with the Grams format follower and springs. I was intrigued by the nature of the Teflon follower for possibly preventing follower hang-ups in the tube.
Beven,
Will you "tune" a mag using a different base pad than yours?
Thanks.
I think that about covers it - Thanks. My Gold Team has a C-more on top and, although being a CZ fan, was thoroughly confused by the prospects of dissasembly.
I'll give this a try and probably come back with more questions!
One more thing - can anyone recommend a good gunsmith to perform a trigger job on the EAA Gold Team?
Thanks.
Does anyone have a good description of how to disassemble an EAA Witness Gold Team, compensated, in 38 super.
I am very familiar with stripping down CZ pistols and the EAA should be the same, with the exception of the compensator, which seems to make disassembly impossible - please help?
Thanks.
