  1. Welcome Tommy! I shot my first 3gun match end of the season last year and was HOOKED!! I am sure you will find plenty of clubs in Texas that host 3gun matches filled with great people to help you in your first season. Most important have fun!!
  2. Welcome to the forums! Tons of good stuff here.
  3. First welcome to the forums. Great place to start is to find local clubs in your area go watch a couple matches meet some great people and ask questions. Pick a gun to shoot and just have fun!!
  4. So I was at the range yesterday with a couple buddies practicing for 3gun. One of the guys needed to zero a new set of iron sights on his AR that he built. He grabs some of my 5.56 ammo (about 60rds) and zeroes his gun. So a little later the 5.56 / .223 discussion is brought up and he says his is a .223 barrel !!! And then says well you can shoot 5.56 out of a .223 ... I told him no its the other way around. So we check his pieced together gun for any markings on the barrel and could not see anything marked .223 or 5.56. We are going to take hand guard off to see if it is just covered up. If we are unable to find any markings or it does say .223 should he replace the barrel or have it checked out by someone or just continue to shoot it and now worry about it??
  5. +1 blade tech doh. I even use it for limited and steel challenge holster. Just got used to it over the last couple years in matches and dryfire and feel I am just as quick out of it as I am out of a speed rig.
  6. I load 9 .40 and 45 all bayou with titegroup powder. 9 and .40 shoot just as clean as the mg I used to shoot for a lot less $$. 45 would load with clays. Accuracy is great !!
  7. Welcome to the forums...good luck on not going broke shooting 3 gun:)
  8. Welcome to the forums! A dillon 550b is a great place to start along with reading all the info here on getting started in competitive shooting. Find a local club that puts on matches go watch them and meet some great people and ask questions. Pick a gun you like practice and just have fun your first year and dont buy a bunch of gear or guns until you get a few matches under your belt. If you are anything like me you will change your mind on guns and gear a few times and end up spending more money Than you need to. Have fun and be safe
  9. Welcome Jay, you will find out very quick that reloading is the only option if you are shooting a lot plus its just fun and relaxing to reload. load with a 550b 9 and .40 it paid for itself in the first year and then some.
  10. Welcome back John. Hope you enjoy your comeback year:)
  11. agreed. And I can reload 9mm cheaper than buying 22 at current inflated prices. Its starting to make a come back. Acually found 525 federal value packs 24.99 at gander last week.
  12. We always go for wings after shooting Circleville. Just have her meet you there! Win Win!!!
  13. Balancing play time and family time is a delicate dance. I am married with 4 kids ages 13-2. My 3 older kids are all involved in sports year around. I will never miss a game for a match. My wife is a stay at home mom so it is very difficult to leave Saturdays for 8 hrs to shoot a match when she is ready for a break:) my best advise is shoot when you can and when you are home make it all about family. There will come a day when there are no more practices and games and I know I will miss all of that when its done so when I miss a big fun match I think of that. I have an agreement with the wife 3 matches a month if sports allow and practice maybe once a week. I always try to plan for dinner out or something every match day when I get done.
  14. +1 zev fulcrum trigger. I shot aa lot of 1911 and 2011 and the zev is the closest in my opinion to that 1911 break and reset.
  15. I started with a versamax sportsman 26". Just added 6 rd mag eextention and fiber front sight for around $1000 total. Gun runs flawlessly and is really soft on recoil.
  16. That was awesome! Nice job Patrick. .
  17. Yeah thats first time I have ever heard of a primer just falling out of a case. Not sure I would tumble loaded rounds!
  18. Welcome from Circleville, Ohio!! Did you make it up to Pickaway county sportsman club for any matches?
  19. Bayou bullets !! Great price coated and donnie offers sample packs for you to try. I shot all montana golds for a while but like you needed to save some money. One of the member of my shooting team turned me to bayou. I use titegroup powder and they are very accurate with no more smoke than a coated bullet. I shot a bunch of lead for practice rounds but the smoke was just to bad with titgroup podwer. Another plus you will not need to change barrel bayou is fine with glock barrels.
  20. I am no expert but you may be to firm on your strong hand and not strong enough on support hand. You could be gripping to tight with strong hand trying to manage recoil a little to much and forcing the muzzle down upon slide return. Just my 2 cents.
