  1. hi all, I'm looking for an appendix holster for my 1911 5'' colt gold cup(norail, light or optics). Since its a big gun i want the gun to ride in the holster as high as posdible. I'm already appendix carring a Glock 17 (TXC Ally holster) and really like it, but they do not offer a 1911 model. If you have any photos to share it would be great. Thanks
  2. I just had a look at the wilsonn site. It looks like they have what i need (item 429sg). Am i right?
  3. My colt is an "out of the box" gun and no modifications were made to it. It has the low ride grip safety on it. Am i doomed? Isnt there any nsolution for old style 1911 frames to fit the new high ride grip safeties? I thought that this is what the S&A grip safeties were all about. So what is the difference between the S&A safety grips and all the other after marketi high ride safety grips?
  4. I am also interested in changing my low-ride grip safety of my colt gold cup but until today i had no idea that there is a new high-ride safety grip availabe for the old 1911 frames. I looked at the s&a site but am notnsure wich one i need. Is it the 250 or 220 angle that fits my colt? I just bought a grip safety from kimber but was very dissapointed when i discovered it does not fit...
  5. I run 9lb recoil spring with a 16lb main sping in my colt gold cup. It is the sweetest 45 i have ever shot. There is almost no muzzle rising and the gun feels and behaves more like 40 i.e the slide goes back in a "flat" manner. With a heavier spring the slide rises much higher. But at the end of the day it is a question of personal preference.
  6. Just bought a kimber style grip safety for my 80 series Colt Gold Cup. I had no idea that it would not fit. I was told that the old style frame is not the same as new frames and that the only style of grip safety that would fit is the old original grip safety i have. Are there any grip safety makers that make new style of grip safetis for the old style frames?

    BUL

Bul has a new model called SAS. It is an STI clone. It looks very good and shoots like a dream. I shot one (here in Israel) and was very ipmressed. If i were you i would try to contact Bul here in israel and ask them where else you can find their guns outside Israel. I know their website is not up to date so this is the only way to find out what you want to know. Their number is +97236392911. ask for Haim, he is head of marketing. Hope this helps
  8. I just found a 15 years old bottle of Break Free CLP. I gave it a good shake and it looks (and smells) OK. I could not find any expiry date on the bottle. Is it still good to be used or should I forget about it (again) and get a new one? BTW, during the last few years I used all sorts of lubricants but now I’m thinking to give it a try and not just use it as a “storage lube”. Anyone has an experience with this stuff?
  9. Thank you all. Splashdown, the reason there are no serrations at the rear is that i grab the slide from the front when i'm cocking. i found it to be a much faster way. BTW, Brandon also thought that this is strange and he called me about it to make sure this was not a mistake.
  10. This is my brand new Sight Tracker pistol .40" cal. made by SVI. Even though I only had the opportunity to shoot it twice (around 500 rounds) I can say that this pistol is in a league of its own. The quality of work is superb and you can tell that there were no "shortcuts" made on any of the components/build process. Also, the look and feel of the pistol is second to none. This is also the place to thank Brandon, Tami and all the guys and gals at SVI who were really kind and attentive throughout the ordering process. I apologize for the poor quality photos. Enjoy!
  11. i use the SPS basepads and they are very good. You need to check them out once in a while to make sure there are no cracks where the pin holes are, where the basepad is relatively thin. They are also very easy to install/uninstole, which is a very big + if you need to clean the magazine in a middle of a match/practice.
  12. thank you all for your help. i used Acetone and it took everything off the grip.
  13. thank you all for your help. I think i'll try the Acetone and if that wont work then i'll cover it with Plasti Dip that TKJ recommended. i'll keep you informed on how it goes
  14. I was thinking to change my G17 with a G22. I found a good condition G22 but the problem is that the owner used super glue to secure a Hogue rubber grip. Since the guy sells the gun As Is, I do not know the condition of the grip underneath the grip. is there any chance that the glue jeopardized the grip? Is there any way I can remove the glue from the grip using some kind of solvent or is it there to stay?
  15. Hi all, I post my question here because I’m a standard division shooter. I used to shoot with one eye closed for several years but after several months of practicing I am now shooting with both eyes open. Thing is, I noticed that when I shoot I have a clear vision of the target and a bit “fade” view of the front sight. I was reading past threads here in the forum and I understand that the “right” thing to do is to have it the other way round. In the last few months I have been working on it but I noticed that it takes me more time to get the correct clear sight picture and I feel it does not work for me as good as having the clear target view. Just for the record, I can call my shots and see the front sight goes up and down even when the focus is on the target and not on the sight. Should I keep trying to have this “clear front sight view” or just go back to what worked well for me? Do you know of any top standard shooters who shoot this way i.e. clear target and the FS at the background? Thanks

    .40 Cal Open Gun

Thank you all for sharing your views and thoughts. I was reading the threads regarding the 40. open issue and from what I can see there are two main disadvantages for using 40 cal in open gun. The first is the lack of 1-2 rounds in the magazine. I must admit that I am not concerned at all with that. The other disadvantage is the availability, or lack of, lightweight bullets, since the 40 works best with such lightweight rounds. Since we can only get 180gr rounds here I am worried about the level of muzzle rise. Is it actually that bad? I know that local shooters who shoot 9x23 are using a 124gr round which brings them to a 186 pf and a hell of a bang! Is it better than using 180gr 40.? The 9x23 is so strong that I believe it causes great damage to the gun and scope in the long run. So, here are the pros and cons (according to my understanding and regarding our local market) 40 Cal. - less rounds but more muzzle rise (with 180gr rounds) however, it is more "bang forgiving" and also more available. 9x23 Cal. - the compensator works good (it is 124gr) and you can get more rounds. however, even though that gus shoots "flat" the pf is hysteric (186pf) and the high pressure possibly shortens the life of the gun. am i correct?
  18. Hi all, I hope that this is the right place to ask. I’m currently shooting Standard and considering buying an open gun. Thing is, however, I would like to get in Major but reload is illegal here and the only major pf ammo available is the Winchester 9x23 which is very rare, expensive and since it is very strong it causes a lot of problems in the long run. Therefore, I was thinking to my self, why not getting an open gun in .40 cal?. I shoot .40 in my Standard gun and the PF is around 180 (no reload, remember?). is there any reason why not buying a .40 open gun? Can someone please tell me about the pros and cons of such gun in terms of reliability and whether it will provide PF to get into Major? Your vies are appreciated,
  19. thank you all for your help. i could see why the debate focused on the costs, but could you also give me some inputs as to the "mechanical" differences? what is so good about the TruBor barrel to comp fit that makes it unique, does the comp differences between the two crucial(i.e. the number of chambers)?
  20. I know that a similar version of this question has probably been asked (and answered) on this forum in the past, but since I'm totally new to open division (I'm a standard division shooter) and thinking to go open next year, i thought that this would be the best place to ask around. i had a look on the STI TruBor and the SPS open (not the hybrid model) and it looks that both are very good pistols as they come from the factory. There are, however, several differences that I'm not sure how much they are important, such as a different compensator/barrel fit and compensator design. the STI with a chrome finish is $3,000 while the SPS (chrome) is $2,050. is there any catch that I'm missing? what makes the STI a nearly $1,000 more expensive? is it worth it? and what is the real difference between the TruBore and the GrandMaster? i know that i have many questions but i guess that an open shooter how were considering moving to standard would have the same. your views are appreciated.
  21. today i changed the magazine in a new one. on dry fire it seems to be OK . i'll take it with me to the range on thursday to test it.
  22. bear23, i just orders the try pack which included the extra strong mag catch spring. i did some dry fire experimation today and i found out that the mag catch is probably the culprit. the little piece of metal that goes into the magazine is rather short and in dry fire there is one magazine that kept falling off the gun. However, the rest of the magazines handled the defect mag catch and stayed in place. so now i think that the problem is both a defect mag catch (because in a different mag catch all 3 magazines functioned without any problem) and one problematic magazine (because the other two functioned well with the defect mag catch). sounds confusing? i think I'm a bit, but at least now i know where to start from.
  23. thank you all! the mag. rel. is standard with no button. HOPALONG, i was thinking the same, but have no idea where to find on. in the meanwhile i cut a piece from an old spring i had and put it next to the existing spring. it did make it a bit stronger, but the action is not smooth at all (chchchchchch.........) but i guess you cant have in all, can you?
