Revolver holsters are going to be easier. No more IDPA vs USPSA legal holsters. The USPSA style holsters with the holster cut away at the top of the frame and down the barrel is definitely going to ease the draw. Also like being able to put all the speedloader or moonclip holders in front of the holster. Really wishing Iowa State would use the new new rules next month.

As a plus, 3.6 grains of Comp has more volume than 4.1 of Sport Pistol

Competition does appear to be more accurate. The SD for 18 rounds of Competition yesterday was 11 fps. For 18 rounds of Sport Pistol in October SD was 22 (see previous post for details). The groups I fired offhand at 10 yards were tighter with Competition. There is definitely less flash with Sport Pistol and the recoil was also softer. But dang, the improvement of accuracy is definitely nice. I'm going to run this load for awhile. Also I'm using Bayou bullets instead of SNS and Magtech primers instead of WSP (because I'm almost out of WSP). Trying to duplicate my 4.1 grain load of Sport Pistol with Ramshot Competition and here it is with 3.6 grains of Competition using 160 Bayou roundnose and Magtech primers: Stats - Average 813.93 fps Stats - Highest 838.82 fps Stats - Lowest 798.48 fps Stats - Ext. Spread 40.34 fps Stats - Std. Dev 10.92 fps Number of rounds - 18 As a check, I also fired 6 rounds of 4.1 grains of Sport Pistol with 160 SNS and WSP primers: Stats - Average 812.85 fps Stats - Highest 832.6 fps Stats - Lowest 792.43 fps Stats - Ext. Spread 40.17 fps Stats - Std. Dev 17.8 fps

Closer to 800 or a little less. I just need a PF of 120 for ICORE and 105 for IDPA. 800 will get me 128 for a nice cushion.

radny97, any recommended 38 loads for Competition with coated 160 grain RN’s? (I have Bayou and SNS).

I have a Simply Rugged pancake for my 329PD ultralight 44. It's great for carrying. When I first started to get into revolver shooting in IDPA I used the 329 with 44 Special loads. I wouldn't recommend the holster for competition when you have frequent re-holstering. But for carrying a revolver in the woods (I used to carry the 329PD in the Black Hills while archery deer hunting due to the number of mountain lions around, and it was legal) that I would totally forget it was there.

Those of you using a BMT kickstand and a C-More Slideride any recommendations on the color of the C-More? I’m toying with red to make the lens outline look like an eye catching ghost ring then I think it should be black so it’s less noticeable. Just don’t know. I have have a right side Kickstand coming from BMT (based on MWP’s recommendation above in this thread). I’m setting up a 929 for Steel Challenge and ICORE. PS - sorry for resurrecting an old thread.

Those slots in the barrel shroud should do a good job of collecting and cleaning out the dust bunnies in your glove box. That alone would make it worth the price.

My 30S hates 200 grain SWC. Almost 80-90% failure to feed. I’m sure the short barrel does not help with the geometry of getting the round up the ramp into the chamber

5.1.7 is a USPSA rule. Here is the IDPA rule: ”8.1.6 Unserviceable Firearm Rule A. In any single match, a shooter must use the same firearm for all stages unless it becomes unserviceable. B. If the shooter determines that the firearm has become unserviceable, he will notify a Safety Officer who will notify the Match Director.”

The box is: F. The firearm with the largest magazine inserted must fit in the IDPA gun test box measuring 6 1/2" x 4 5/8" x 1 3/8".

There is an earlier thread about Apex "bobbed" hammers (I'm assuming the factory hammer with the spur removed). My question is whether the Apex Evolution IV hammer is IDPA legal for revolver. I don't know if the Apex hammer discussed in that thread is the Evolution IV. Or if the IDPA rule (copied below) allows an aftermarket hammer or if it is meant to just allow a factory OEM hammer with the spur cut-off. This will be for a 625JM. 8.2.6.5 Stock and Enhanced Revolver Permitted Modifications (Inclusive list): B. I'm looking forward to getting into the 929. I'm going to load for the 929 using Winchester brass, Sport Pistol and SNS 160 RN cast (.358). I've been looking for Federal SPP for months and will jump on them when they are available but, alas, I only have Winchester. Been using Federal LPP only in my 625. For moonclips I have the three TK blued .035 that came with the 929 and a bonus 10 stainless TK .035 that I won at the IRC in September.

You nailed it. The factory rebound spring is ground flat on the ends. See photo. Three Wolff rebounds springs are not ground flat (both Apex are that came with the hammer). The Apex competition rebound spring wouldn’t reset the trigger. Both the 13# and 14# Wolff did. With the 13# the pull is about 9# with the strain screw all the way in. I backed it out until the pull was 7-1/2# and will use that as a starting point. I just have Winchester SPP. Both the OEM and Wolff mainsprings have the same curvature. No modification of the Apex hammer was necessary. Phew!

I just bought a new 929 and have had the cylinder chamfered by TK Custom and am installing an Apex hammer, extended firing pin and competition rebound spring. I'm also installing a Wolff Power Rib Type 2 reduced power mainspring. Lo and behold, the OEM mainspring in the 929 looks identical to the Wolff. Are the same spring???? If so, is the factory rebound spring one of the Wolff springs that came with the kit? I tried measuring the trigger pull before I started and it maxed out my Lyman electronic trigger pull gauge (12 pound max).

Been looking for Competition. Seems like powder supplies are definitely improving.

Radny97, I decided to try 4.1 grains of Sport Pistol with the 160 coated SNS and got the following. I does nail the PF needed for ICORE (and definitely IDPA). The ES and SD are definitely not as good as 3.5 grains of Bullseye (which I also ran today and the results were identical to those I posted on the 14th, which is satisfying). The accuracy with 4.1 is better than 3.5 SP but not quite as good as Bullseye, but close. Everything you said was dead on! Thanks! I know this is an older thread but it is perfect to add data. I've been searching this forum and the internet for 38 Special loads using Sport Pistol. Here is my results from a new 4" Colt Python using a LabRadar shooting in a 25 yard indoor range. For the SD and ES numbers I'm showing the value for the 12 rounds +/- shot and the number is parentheses is throwing out the highest and lowest velocity shots. I'm not 100% that some of the numbers might be wonky from being indoor and the radar bouncing off of walls and ceiling so have the alternate with the two numbers thrown out: Sport Pistol - 3.5 grains SNS 160 Grain Coated Roundnose Ave muzzle velocity - 717 fps Velocity at 11' - 710 Power Factor at 11' - 114 OAL - 1.562" Primer - WSP SD - 28 fps (12*) ES - 104 (35*) (Alliant data shows 778 fps for 3.5 grains and a 158 grain SWC) Other loads tried same day with same primer, bullet and OAL: Bullseye - 3.5 grains Velocity at 11' - 789 Power Factor at 11' - 126 SD - 27 fps (6*) ES - 103 (18*) Unique - 4.5 grains Velocity at 11' - 854 fps Power Factor at 11' - 137 SD - 25 fps (18*) ES - 92 (50*) Unique - 5.0 grains Velocity at 11' - 907 Power Factor at 11' - 145 SD - 15 fps (10*) ES - 49 (28*) ( *) - high and low shots removed from 12 shot string numbers I'm going to use the Bullseye load for an ICORE match on Saturday and an IDPA match Monday night. It shot significantly more accurately than a max load of Trail Boss under an SNS coated 158 SWC that I have been using. That said, I want to develop a Sport Pistol load for the 160 grain SNS since I have 8# that I want to use for 38, 45 and 9mm as I run out of other powder. Any suggestions from anyone using Sport Pistol for 38 Special with 158-160 coated bullets? I'm looking for a PF in the 125 to 130 range. I'm not too far off right now and will probably try 4.0 grains and see if I need to go up (or down) from there. As an aside, the standard 148 HBWC load with 2.7 grain of Bullseye meets the minimum IDPA power factor in my revolver.

I ordered 160 round nose from Bayou in early July. I gave up and have since ordered from SNS. They arrive in a few days. Still waiting for Bayou.

What is the bore diameter in the Super GP100’s? .355 or .357?
