Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Don't think so. I got 2 for the daughter's new Witness compact and wouldn't lock in place and there was play in the mag well. Also the new Baby Eagle mags had a slightly different shape on the sides than the Tanfoglio/EAA mags. Gotta take 'em back. Look on the frame or slide and see where it was made. If made in Italy, then they may or may not. But if made in Israel they just might. I always thought the designs were identical, but apparently not. wish I could actually help...
  2. Two weeks ago, my '08 RIA Tactical started getting a hitch in the trigger release. Contacted Armscorp HQ thru Facebook to ask questions. Gene asked me to take some pictures, which I did. Next thing I know he had Fedex pick up my pistol on a Thursday. Monday they said called and said it would go in the rotation to be checked. On Thursday I called to check and see when they would get to it. "Oh it went out today. But we saw something we didn't like so we sent you a new pistol." Talk about shocked!! It came in the mail today. My old black micarta grips installed, the factory grips in a bag, an extra mag and some promo material to share with friends. I didn't have much time so I took a mixed box of OLD ammo. Federal Match, Speer Flying ashtrays, Silvertips, Blazer, Black Talons, and milsurp. No pattern, just filled seven various magazines. She shot an inch low at seven yards offhand with no pause and no hiccups right out of the box. Not one single hitch, even on the last two mags of fast, then double tapped shots. Out of the box rocking! Taking care of the customer!! Once again for all you haters, Rock Island showed me why they'll have my business as long as I can put five pounds of pressure on the trigger...
  3. LIL, this might sound simplistic, but a quick question and suggestion. Do you know or have you gone back to the "rich plinker"? You could say it shoots great and ask what mods were made and if he wasn't sure/didn't know, could he at least tell you where the mods were done? Could he tell you the original owner or where the original owner bought it? Sometimes if you can at least find out the shop where it was bought, then sometimes they can tell you if the weapon was modified through their shop or shop contacts. I'm kindof a purist so I'm not big on "unknown parts/mods". And if you have a safety issue at a match you can get in a pickle not knowing what animal you had in your hands. my .02...
  4. thanx for the reply. I never had a sight problem till recently. I saw them (XS sights) and thought they might be good in low light. The Trijicons were good on my Glock 30. All black sights are really hard to pick up in low/no light carry or defense scenarios. Maybe a gold dot front would be a better answer and cheaper. Just looking for input from current shooters as I adjust to my new geezer status, as my daughter puts it...
  5. check your parts post..will check back in the a.m.

  6. A guy I used to shoot with in South Florida had a phenominally accurate 1911 with a Kart barrel. Was gonna get one when I lost my job and shooting went away due to the job and family. Anyway I just found out that Kart was only about 30 minutes from my hometown in southern NC. I could've kicked myself since I could have driven over to get one. I called and talked to one of the techs. They all require fitting but are well worth the trouble..my .02 worth
  7. I just gave my Dad my Glock 30. It's a great gun that did all I wanted, but on my short body it was a little harder to conceal. I found an almost new Kel Tec P11 for $250. Heard all kinds of crap, but after talking to 3 guys that have multiple KT's and shoot the heck out of them, thought I'd see for myself. Glad I did. It's got a little more recoil because of the extreme light weight, but VERY easy to conceal, has 10 rounds and if I take my time, shoot 3" at 25 yards. It has digested every type of ammo I've thrown at it without a jam. If I'm not carrying my RIA Tactical, the P11 is just the trick. You can also use S&W 59 magazines which it was designed to do. Here's another goody for most shooters. Go to Youtube and find great takedown videos that show how really owner friendly they are since you can change out any part in under 5 or 10 minutes. OR you can spend more and get used Glock compacts for around $400 from CDNN or other vendors. Then go to a Glock GSSF match and their Match Armorer will do a full takedown and inspection as part of the the pre-match safety check. hope this helps...
  8. Curious responses...Hmmm, I also use Amsoil when I can get it (no consistent dealer within 75 miles or so), or Mobil 1 Extended 5W-30, but never gave it a thought. I guess I was worried about staining my clothes since I carry concealed up against the body. But the quality lubricants could make sense...
  9. Thanks guys. Buckaroo, what in your experience causes you to like the colors better? I would think that they would wash out at the distances handguns are for, regardless of the purpose. I have them on my turkey gun, but it seems that I'm in that twilight of needing/not needing glasses for iron sights. Looking for just this kind of input...
  10. I've been looking strongly at changing out my 1911 sights for a set of XS Sights. Anyone have experience with 'em? Problems with USPSA or IDPA that you know of since they are fixed dovetail items? They seem best for my older eyes and will be easier for carry-related stress sight acquisition. Thanks for the input in advance...

  13. The stock GI configuration is bare-bones but a good beginning 1911. Your friend can take advantage of the good price now and as time and finances permit, upgrade the shooter. I've had Colts, Taurus and Paras and shot STI's and Kimbers and Springfields. I currently carry a Rock Island Armory Tactical. It's as good as any other 1911 I've ever fired. With 1000 rounds through it, I have yet to have a single malfunction and it only cost me $400 at a gunshow. Some snobs don't like the Phillipine 1911's, but they've been making the 1911 since General MacArthur was there in the 30's so people need to read history. They are true 1911's and are of the series 70 design so there are lees concerns to my mind. AsHope it helps...
  14. Looking for some info from the northern or traveling members. I'm almost out of my syringe of Master Lube. it's been ok, but thinking of making the switch to SG-Lite. Most of the year would be ok, but the winter in north Missouri can actually get down to a consistent level below the 30 degrees in the description. Is it an issue, or has anyone had problems below the 30 degree threshold? I don't want to have different lubes all over the bench. Since this is my carry gun as well as a woods gun the last thing I want is a sluggish or locked slide. I had that happen in Alaska and don't want a repeat!! thanks in advance...
