  1. I've shot wst through a g34...g17....and a Sig 226 with zero issues. 3.2 an 3.4 is pretty low. I've had good results in all 3 guns with 3.8 and 4.0 using 147gr moly. I upped it up to 4.3 with 125 gr moly bullets to make pf in 4" barrels. The 3.8 and 4.0 were with 147gr moly bullets. If you go below 3.8 you might consider dropping the recoil spring down to 12#. I use a 14# spring above 3.6 with no issues. Also...I've loaded all of those rounds with 1.125 up to 1.160 oal...also...no issues
  2. Well I test drive it today...150 rnds...no light strikes....hopefully good to go
  3. Ok Thanks. .I do use strictly winchester primers
  4. I forgot to mention that..I just got the short hammer strut..main spring seat...and springs last night...so I haven't had a chance to treat drive it yet and I found out tonight I have to work this weekend.... I'm debating whether to just install the 21# hammer spring for this match. ...if I do get a chance to hit the range. .. and have no light strikes on a couple hundred rounds. .. Could I figure good to go ya think? ?
  5. Is a 17# hammer spring as reliable as a factory 21#?....I just installed on on my 226 9mm....and its freaky light. I'm shooting an out of state match next weekend and I'm concerned about light strikes as I'm not taking a backup gun. I do however have a 18#...19#...an 21# spring to take with me but...you blow 1 stage and your done.
  6. I'm going from a Glock 17 to my P226 9mm for uspsa prod. I'm using 147 gr moly coated bullets with a pf of around 131000 to 135000. I used a 14# recoil spring on the glock.. What would you guys recommend on the sig. I used a 14# this past weekend with 125gr and it ran great but I want to switch to 147gr

    Glock Q's

I have a g17 gen 3. I use a steel non captured guide rod with a 12# recoil spring. Had light strike issues with a 4# striker spring, switched to a 4.5# striker spring and those issues disappeared. Factory striker. And I use a vanek trigger kit that utilizes a factory trigger spring with a reduced safety plunger spring. This set up has run flawlessly for over 5000 rounds. Hope this helps. Not a single light strike with the 4.5# striker spring using winchester primers.
  8. I started competing with a stock german sig 226, I shot it pretty well. I let my shooting partner talk me into a glock 34. Shot it for a little over 2 yrs. I ended up switching back to my sig 226, except, I installed a short reset trigger on it. Even with the SRT Trigger, I couldn't shoot it as well a my 34. I ended up buying a G17.....OMG I love the 17. It is, by far, thee best gun I have ever competed with, and I have competed with a sig, XD, M&P, glock, and a 1911. I shoot my new 17 better than any of those. And I like glock cuz it's easy and cheap to maintain, and it's totally reliable. So far ZERO malfunctions or light strikes with a Vanek trigger.
  9. Also...you should use a vice to secure your slide. Make sure the jaws are smooth and covered with duct tape so you dont scratch your slide. Also, make sure which ever end your working on is inside the jaws, if it's hanging out on the end, you can actually bend your slide. They show you all of this stuff on his videos
  10. Ive installed, removed, and adj sights on my 226's. I used an aluminum punch I got from dawson. Its not a big deal. A tip though, completely cover up your punch including the end of it with electrical tape, that way if it slips, it won't scratch your slide our your sight, and mark where your sight is now with a sharpie pen so you can tell how much you move it. You can also go on youtube and search for dawson precision, he has great videos on how to fit and install sights.
  11. Some are saying to polish out the extractor, I did this by hand today and test drove it, same issues. I don't have a dremmel and was thinking of just dropping it into my tumbler for a couple of hours. Do you guys think that this would ruin it?, I don't have a spare at the moment.

    17 or 34?

I had a 34, didn't care for it, bought a 17. Gutted it and rebuilt it. This is what I've come up with: Vanek trigger, lone wolf barrel, jager steel guide rod, wolf 14# recoil spring, ext. mag release, ext. slide release, Dawson plain fixed rear .125 notch, .125 wide fiber optic up front. Test drove it today, and it ran beautifully. I ran it with 125 gr moly black bullets, 4.0gr WST, OAL 1.125
  13. I went with a dawson #8 .125 wide Fiber Optic front, using factory #8 fixed rear...elevation is spot on at 45 ft. and has very little daylight. It took me a month, and several different sight combinations to finally get what I was looking for. I was looking for a factory sight picture utilizing a fiber optic front sight, this is it. I was able to put 3 rounds inside of a quarter at 40 ft, with this setup.
  14. Just got my sights today, .125 front/ .125 rear, and I was shocked to see daylight on both sides. Just the right amount of daylight for me. I think I'm gonna like them.
  15. I didn't like the Sevigny set up, to much day light for me,,,i just ordered a dawson glock rear .125 notch, with a dawson fiber front .125, I hope I'm not sorry, but sights are relatively cheap,, I can switch to something else
  16. I can get an xd9 tactical 5" for 529.00 no SSE required..trigger job and adj rear/ FO front brings me up to about 900.00 with shipping to powder river. Both the xdm and the pro would require a SSE 125.00. Both require a trigger job. Price of gun, SSE, and FFL transfer fees, put the cost of the xdm and pro, probably 300.00 higher. I like the Pro, so basically it comes down to whether I can get a good of trigger on the pro, as I can the xd or the glock. Light, crisp, clean break, clean reset, an no light strike or reliability issues.. I don't do issues. The trigger issues on the pro is my big concern, with seemingly having to choose between light trigger or crisp reset. And not being able to have both, like the xd or the glock. To be honest, I shoot at a top club in socal and I dont see many if any M&P Pros being used, unless it's because there are no 5" pros approved for calif. Gear is not a concern, I have that covered.
  17. The mag disconnect is on calif approved models, the pro is not approved for calif, maybe thats why. I can still get it, I just have to jump through some hoops. There are no 5" M&P's approved for calif, and for uspsa or idpa, I want a 5" gun. I've shot a greyguns 226 and as nice as it was, I cant get myself to fork out $450.00 plus shipping and wait 6 weeks or longer for a trigger job.
  18. Life,,, I'm curious to know what issues he's had with it??? As far as the rear sight moving, i would think that some blue loktite on the set screw would eliminate that problem, it did on my Sig.
  19. A gunsmith tuning is always better than just a drop in. Looking for other good smiths since dan seems to be to busy right now.
  20. I've shot Sigs for 25 yrs an love them but, I used a glock 34 for uspsa. It had a vanek trigger kit, lone wolf barrel, sevigny sights, and the tactical mag release. The trigger was great, but, I could never get used to the grip angle, so I tried using my sig with fo front sight and the SRT trigger, it's ok but just that, ok. trying to decide between an m&p pro or an xd tactical. Xdm, not worth the money, when you have to get a trigger job on it anyway. Been reading this forum on both guns til my brain hurts. Xd pros: good trigger options, good resets. Xd cons: doesn't feel all that good in my hands, don't like the grip safety Mp pro pros: love the way it feels in my hands. mp cons: mag disconnect, terrible trigger, especially the reset our lack there of. Was leaning to the mp, but having to choose between getting a light trigger or getting a good feeling reset is really bothering me, I'm very close to just sticking with my Sig. I just can't decide what to do....sigh! I guess what I'm trying to find out is, is it possible to get a 2.5# trigger, with a crisp break, short an crisp reset, and no light strike issues on the M&P Pro 9mm???? It does seem possible on the XD, and I know it's possible on a Glock, I just really like the M&P Pro
  21. With burwell being so busy, what about sending it to apex for a trigger job?
  22. Just a heads up..one week later and he's already raised the price $3.00 a 1000....ugh
  23. Sig 226 OAL 1.125 The glock 34 gave me a higher PF, around 144,000 with a lone wolf barrel
