Ironman stages
Best Stage Ever:
Tunnel Rat:

So Russell a question for you :
Which 8 stages were the best from all the Iron Man matches you'v shot over the years ?
What was the one where your in an APC ???
You have youtube gun God status.
( i still have the CAV ARMS shirts from you - lol )
Thanks for the kind words. I need more subscribers for youtube gun god status though, probably need more explosions or scantily clad ladies ;-). I'll answer your question in the other thread.

Match staff shouldn't compete in blind stage based matches or be scored separately. Or automatically have time for that stage increased by 50%.
-
Nevermind, I was talking about the Super Tac Scope thing I mentioned with dots allowed on everything. There actually seems to be some call for that.
-
I'd be willing to shoot in open using the Super Modified or whatever we're calling it equipment so long as we put asterisks next to the shooter names and track popularity of it. Or do it as a provisional division and it has to have X number of shooters or it gets folded into open.
-
See the first video. There were 8 targets of the same size at 200 yards. Info sheets gave the shooters info on which to shoot first and then which one was a no shoot. There were multiple combinations and only the ROs knew which one it was for that team.
-
And of course there's this one. Good luck sharing enough info between squads to actually make a difference.
-
Blind stages can remain blind with randomization of targets.
-
Tac scope as it is
Super Tac Scope
Dots on normal tube fed shotguns.
Dots on non compensated pistols
Both are entering the realm of common use by military and law enforcement personnel.

Do we need to be USPSA members to participate?

Route 66 Tactical has a new Laser Shot Simulator. I took the instructor training this week and it is frankly an awesome tool for many reasons.
1) It doesn't cost you $0.25-0.50 a shot to use
2) For novice shooters there is no recoil or noise requring ear pro...perfect for starting with juniors.
3) The Trigger pull is identical to that of many striker fired pistols, the laser shot pistols themselves replicate Glocks
4) We can train indoors in air conditioning, removing a barrier factor for students that don't want to train when it's hot.
5) Immediate feedback, timing and accuracy can be instantly reviewed
6) No resetting or taping of targets speeds up training
This is not a substitute for live fire training, but it is an awesome supplement to get people's skill levels up with less over all cost with no ammunition expended. Working on the simulator then going to the range, I expect students will see immediately better results.
We're going to try something and see how well it is received. We are going to run a virtual match using the Laser Shot system. The system has preprogrammed courses of fire and we can also create our own.
On 7-23-2014 we will run our first virtual match. Show up between 4pm-7pm to sign up to shoot. We will wrap things up at 8pm.
Located at
1208 East Broadway Rd. Suite 200
Tempe, AZ 85282
$10 for 1 run through all five stages
$25.00 for 3 runs through all five stages (best score counts), $5.00 for each additional run (after 3 runs) time permitting.
Two divisions:
Holster Start: Bring a Glock 17/22 Holster
Start In Hand: No equipment necessary, you will start with the laser shot pistol in your hand.
Please RSVP by emailing me at RussellPhagan@Route66tactical.com
Because this is not a live fire match, please keep your real guns holster or in the event you are going to use a holster for the match bring your real firearm in a case if you do not want to leave it in your vehicle. Do not handle any real firearms in our classroom. Mixing real guns and training guns is not something we want to do.

I am happy that Trooper remains popular at Ironman and that Mike Gibson agreed to let us do it 10 years ago, and Travis and the current staff let us keep doing it.
I wish there was a way to incorporate it into more matches. We did a derivative for the local Independence Day rifle match where everything must be carried on the shooter for every stage due to the lower round count, and it has been fairly popular in that format for smaller club level events.
-
Well the limiting factor is how much weight you can carry. When stage 10 was up the hill and the first stage we shot, people packed a lot lighter than they do these days.
-
We only have to carry it from stage to stage. On the stage you only carry what is necessary for that stage.
The long guns I carry in double long gun cases and ground them when I get to the stage along with my assault pack. A lot of people use the packs that have integral long gun carriers, but I've never been a fan of those.
-
Yes, Trooper for life here. I'll be shooting Trooper until I'm physically unable to since I was one of the division founders in 2004.Don't forget to tell him you were in trooper class because the pistol caliber carbine is not allowed in other divisions.
Here's all the PCC footage from this year:
Over the years PCC has had varying levels of usefulness depending on stage designs. A few years it wasn't much of an advantage, the past couple it has been.
Main areas it helps:
Technical pistol shots like lots of no shoots or further smaller targets
Rotating double spinners: both from higher velocity to more control over the gun to get up to 3 hits rather than 2 with pistol at a time.
Close range stages where it eliminates the need to transition guns. On free style open ended close range stages where steel can be pistol or shot, and paper is pistol or rifle you can shoot most of the targets with it.
Easier to shoot well when physically stressed than pistol.
If you are a pistol shooting machine then it is less necessary. Tyler Payne and Ben Fortin both win Trooper without one using Tac scope equipment in the past. This year Tyler Payne used one and won again. In 2008 when I won I didn't use one, in 2009 when I won again I did use one (there were a lot less pro level shooters in Trooper back then). Ironman uses pistols outside the realm of what most people practice, so for the average trooper it helps them do better than they would without it.

TIGER Valley hosted a very unique open to the public 4 man team match for 4 years. Last year's was cancelled because it was at the height of the ammo shortage. This year it has been turned into a 2 man team event to make it easier for people to coordinate and attend with friends (putting together 4 guys of equal skill that could take off work at the same time was a challenge)
Physical fitness is a big component of this match. TIGER Valley is an excellent shooting facility and what makes this kind of event possible is the fact it is privately owned. There is no club or board of directors to argue with about hosting it.

09/20-21/2014 -Two Man Team Match
In an effort to continue the concept of a team event and make it more available to shooters, we have reduced the size of the teams from 4-man to 2-man teams. We had feedback that it was difficult to assemble a four man team so reducing the size and continuing the concept was important. The idea behind this event is that you and your partner must navigate through a maze of issues and problem that must be solved for your team to survive. We have taken out the things that required a 4 man team to solve and added other concepts to it. Shooters can expect to have to climb over barricades, shoot from cover, deploy from vehicles and odd positions. A meal will be provided. This is a pride match.
Equipment: 200 rds rifle; 200 rds pistol. No calibers above .308. No armor piercing ammunition or tracer rounds allowed. All shooters will be required to carry a pistol at all times during the match. No weapon or equipment limits, but if you use it you must carry it. There can be no switching of gear or dropping of gear during the match, you start with it you finish with it.
A meal will be served at the end of the event.
Registration is limited to 30 teams. Limited space for camping is available
Time: Check-in/Registration 7:30am; Match begins at 8:00am
Refund Policy: A full refund is available up to 30 days prior to event; a credit for price of product will be issued up to 14 days prior to event and may be used for any Tiger Valley product offered. Credit will expire after 12 months; no other refunds or credits.

What are you shooting? Is that a pistol caliber carbine? How was it on the long range stuff? Point me at another thread if you've got one going.Anybody got a video of the spool stage
All stage videos uploaded here: https://www.youtube.com/user/SinistralRifleman
I was using a BAP 9mm (MP5 clone www.brethrenarms.com). I used it out to 50 yards on the closer range rifle portions. I used it for all the bonus pistol targets on stage 4.
The rifle stages that had double spinners I used a Windham Weaponry SRC-308 (3 stages) the other rifle stages I used my .223 CAV-15 (2 stages). Stage 6 I used it for everything except the slug plates and pigeon flippers.

Very sad and shocking news. I talked to Rick at the 2013 Ironman and he was in a knee brace then and mentioned how he was looking forward to being more active after his knee surgery. RIP.

Just finished laying out my match ammo and putting it away in the new smaller trooper stash can. Looks like I only need to carry a days worth of ammo to start.
What am i doing wrong? Usually it's the first two days to start.
Round count has consistently decreased for the past few years, it's more manageable than it used to be; hence the smaller can size.
-
I rotate spinners regularly with 9mm 115 grain and 3 dram 7 shot. The notion that they require big power factor to rotate is silly. They do reward using larger power factor.
Here's my how to shoot it video for noobs:
