  1. Trooper division has been revised with my input to bring it back more to reality vs being "Super-Open." as it has evolved into at some other venues.  The hike in and the requirement for all shooting equipment used on ANY stage to be carried on every stage are intended to make people really think about what they need to attack the stages in the most efficient manner.

Feel free to ask any questions in the thread here.

    6.TROOPER DIVISION:

Transportation of Equipment Into Range, Between Stages, and Out of Range

    • Troopers must check in and park their vehicle in the Cowboy Action Venue parking lot just inside the SUPS gate
    • All gear being used during that day’s shooting must be carried in one trip from the Trooper Check-In Point to the SUPS range.
    • At the end of each shooting day, all Troopers must check out with all their equipment from the Trooper Check-in Point.
    • Pre-staging gear at the SUPS range for the next day’s shooting is not allowed.
    • Troopers must carry all gear being used during a day’s shooting to each stage in one trip.
    • All troopers will walk everywhere between Trooper Check-in and Check-Out.
    • Troopers must carry all their gear with them any time they leave a HaH stage.
    • All gear carried by Troopers must be carried on their body (no wagons are allowed). “drag-bag” style cases are considered legal, rolling cases and carts are not.

    Carrying of Equipment/Ammunition During Stages

-Troopers will carry all shooting related equipment, ammunition, magazines, spare parts, tools, batteries for sighting systems, and cleaning supplies they intend to use for ANY stage during EVERY stage.

-In the event a Trooper cannot fit through an obstacle with all their gear, they may take it off on the clock, traverse the obstacle, then retrieve the gear.  They may also drag it through behind them.

-Ammunition may be resupplied after the shooter checks out for the day at the Trooper Check Point

    *Non-Shooting Equipment and Supplies

Non-Shooting equipment or supplies includes Medical equipment, Food, Water, clothing, or adverse weather gear

This equipment and supplies must be carried in from the Trooper Check In Point.

It may be grounded during a stage.

Water may be resupplied at any time and it is not required to carry water during any stage.

Troopers are allowed to eat lunch provided on the range or purchased in the food truck area.  All other food or snacks consumed during the match must be carried in with them.

Food may be resupplied after the shooter checks out for the day at the Trooper Check Point at night

    Firearms

    • Troopers may use any Firearms and Equipment deemed safe by the Match Director/Range Master, provided they carried it in from the Trooper Check-in Point.
    • Troopers will use A Rifle and A Pistol Per stage. Unlike other Trooper matches multiple firearms and pistol caliber carbines are NOT allowed to be used in the same course of fire.   If firearms become damaged or unserviceable; Troopers may drop out into another division where their equipment is legal.
    • Troopers may carry multiple rifles and or pistols provided that they carry them throughout each stage.
    • Troopers may use any rifle smaller than 7.62x51mm (note - this restriction also applies to .308 based calibers such as .243, .260 and 6.5 Creedmoor) to engage any designated rifle targets
    • Projectiles weighing more than 70 grains have a velocity limit of 3000 Feet Per Second. This is to preserve our steel targets.
    • Troopers using rifle calibers that may violate the projectile/velocity limit may be subject to a chronograph test at the Match Director’s discretion.

    Misc.

    • Troopers may not opt-out of any HaH physical challenge.
    • Violation of Trooper Division Rules will result in the competitor being removed from HaH Trooper Division and placed into a division where there equipment is legal.

  3. I was at the Ironman 3 Gun where these debuted.  We had to learn how to do it on the clock.  Sometimes multiple spinners per stage. Suck it up.

Id rather shoot these than stars because they are self-resetting and more challenging.

Heres my how to video.  If a 3 Gun Scrublord with no USPSA classification can do this consistently I'm not sure what the problem is.

  4. Thanks for the info on the KE and Geissele triggers guys! I am hoping to get the play with both before I buy.

Did you notice any slight magnification or blue tint on the MRO??

    T

It does have a blue tint. Mounted further forward I noticed some distortion. Mounted at the rear I don't notice any.

  5. Sinistral that looks great! I really like the long handguards for the VTac barricade. Just like using my 3 Gun rifle.

Is the KE trigger 2 stage or one? I am still picking a trigger as I have heard or issues with some...

What do you think of the MRO? I have multiple Aimpoints....how does it compare?

    T

The trigger is single stage. The Sig manual cautions against changing out the factory fire control because they have an over travel stop feature built into it. Because of the high bolt speed some trigger designs can double without the over travel stop. The KE DMR works in the MPX because is there is an over travel stop built into the hammer/trigger geometry.

The MRO has a bigger lens than the aimpoint Micro, and they are generally less expensive. Can't say I've seen any difference in performance between the two. The micro is better suited to use on guns requiring lower mounts like AKs and MP5s, on AR type designs I like the MRO better. I do wish the windage and elevation adjustments were capped; because they are exposed I mark them with a paint pen.

Failure to comply with any of these rules will drop the shooter out of Trooper into whatever division their firearms would put them in.

  7. Travis, could I get a confirmation on the size of the trooper ammo can this year? Thanks.

Great question. I'll see if I can get Russell Phagan to answer that one. I'm not sure off the top of my head.... This is what I THINK it is...

    1. For the MGM Ironman match the shooter will have one ammo can in which they may store extra ammunition, spare parts, spare firearms, food, etc for re-supply during the match. Shooter will provide their own ammo can which will be a Tall .50 BMG can (7"x12"x9") or smaller (less than 756 cubic inches)

    adios,

    tg

    That's correct.

I can't remember what years, but we did have even larger cans at some point, but the dimensions posted on the match site are what now stands.

  8. From the SMM3G Powers that be:

It sounds like some people may be reading more into the 2016 Walk-Through Policy than is really there.

In previous years, the published Walk-Through Policy was as follows:

"On Wednesday & Thursday, if no competitors are shooting, preparing to shoot or scoring the stage, the Range Master has approved registered competitors only to enter or move through a course of fire. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, competitors may enter or move through a course of fire only with prior approval of a Range Officer assigned to that course of fire, or the Range Master. At no times are props to be activated, reset, or should anyone be downrange."

For the 2016 match only, the Range Master is simply WITHOLDING his approval for anyone to enter or move through the course of fire prior to their scheduled briefing time. This is the only match-wide Walk-Through Policy change for the 2016 event, and the change is being made for reasons that will become clear when competitors arrive. Everyone will still get their full 5-minute squad walk-through, and folks will be relieved to hear they still get to help reset the stages for their squadmates.

Nothing in the 2016 Walk-Through Policy in any way prevents competitors or spectators from observing the stage layouts from the spectator area (i.e. behind the rope line). Indeed, because of the full-day schedule, competitors should have ample time to enjoy watching others shooting the stages. We hope this will minimize any disadvantage for the first shooter of the squad on any given stage.

Lastly, we want to emphasize that the Range Master will be taking great care to ensure that the change to the 2016 Walk-Through Policy will not create any problems with competitive equity.

  9. The registration process and lottery has been completed. Those of you who made it in should be getting e-mails shortly, along with payment instructions. Remember payment must be received by 11-8-2015.

There are currently 120 people on the waiting list. The wait list will be published after the payment deadline.

  10. Registration for the match goes live tomorrow, please read the registration process explanation carefully.

    https://practiscore.com/smm3gun-2016-superstition-mountain-mystery-match/register

This year’s process will again include a lottery type drawing to take place after we have collected the registration requests from the competitors that are interested in shooting the match.

The total Match fee will be $325.00 per shooter which will be due after you are accepted into the match. This year, we will ONLY be accepting online payments for the match.

The registration process will take place from 10AM on October 12th and run thru October 27th 2015. At midnight on October 27th, registration will close and the lottery process will take place. Shortly thereafter, you will be notified whether you are in the match or on the wait-list.

Only one registration entry is allowed per person. When you register, please have the following information ready. T-Shirt Size, Division you plan to shoot, applicable categories (Lady, Senior, Law) shooting partner full names, and valid personal emails to receive confirmations and match communications.

For those of you registering as individual shooters, the process will be very simple and painless. You will receive an email confirmation when you have successfully registered for the match.

There is no “Gaming” this system. Anyone determined to be abusing the policy’s by attempting to register multiple times or with multiple shooting partners will determined to be unsportsmanlike and refused entry into the match.

After the lottery process has taken place, you will then be notified that you made it in the match. Your shooting slot is contingent based upon our receipt of $325.00 per shooter.

There are no-exceptions to this policy. If your electronic payment is not received by Sunday November 8th, 2015 your slot will be given to the next person on the wait list.

Please only register for the match if you have the intention of completing the process and shooting the match.

In an effort to comply with the many requests that were made for families and groups, we are again utilizing the group function in PractiScore’s registration. You will be able to choose if you want to register as an individual or as a shooting group. The group process will allow you to group with family members or regular shooting partners for registration and squadding.

Meaning - if you make it into the match, so would your family members or shooting partners (** limit of 4 **). The group as a whole will subject to the same random process. The only advantage is for those that do not want to attend if their family or friends do not make it into the match.

As always, registration spots are not transferable, and the refund policy will be strictly enforced.

    Refund requests received prior to:

    November 15th 80%

    December 1st 70%

    January 1st 60%

    February 1st 50%

No refunds will be processed after Feb.1st 2016 !!

Here is more on the Group Process:

Example 1 (Shooting Buddies): Bill and Bob want to shoot together. Bill enters the match first as the group leader. He will then send Bob the group code and Bob then enters as part of the group. The group is treated as one entry. The group will make it into the match as long as space for the whole group is available if they are selected by the system. Bill and Bob cannot also enter as individuals.

Example 2 (Family): Husband wants to shoot with wife and child. Someone from the family enters first to start the group process as the group leader.. Then the rest of the family registers and joins the group using the code provided by the system. Husband cannot also submit as an individual.

However, husband can submit individual application and wife and child can submit family group. But, then the husband will run the risk of wife and child making it into the match and husband left home alone.

You will have to make the choice if you want to register as an individual or a group and take your chances.

Approved Staff Registration and Approved Sponsored shooters can also sign up on this same website. If you are unsure that you will be selected as a sponsored shooter, signing-up here might be the only way to have a chance for a slot in the match. If you sign up for the match and are later awarded a sponsor slot, your match fees will be FULLY refunded.

All sponsored shooters must be registered by February 10th. After that date, all open spots will be passed along to those that are still on the wait-list.

Squadding will begin in mid February shortly after the Sponsor deadline.

Approved sponsors may contact: Mick Bjelopavlic prizecoordinator@smm3gun.com for registration info.

The match is fully staffed and unless you have been CONFIRMED as a Staff Member do NOT use the "Staff" button selection for registration. If you have questions regarding match staffing, please contact the Range Master thru the link provided on the SMM3G website.

For questions related to the registration or squadding process, please contact Russ Osiol by email at: RUSS.SMM3GUN@GMAIL.COM

I am hopefully that this process makes sense and our terms are both considered reasonable and understandable. We are humbled by the popularity of our match and constantly strive to refine the process keeping it fair while also staff friendly.
