I've been looking at the Bowens too, but it doesn't appear to be avilable with a wider notch. My preference is for a .140 rear notch mated to a standard front.
-
This is what I used.
I had one of those on my 627 for a while. I found it to be too fragile for my tastes, I prefer to open up the notch a bit on a factory blade.

So I've been shooting with the bottom feeders in L10 with my 627 for the last two years. Now that we have 8-shot minor, I've traded into a 5" 625. I would have loved to have it last year but it'll be a fun break from counting to 8.
I'd like to swap out the sights that are on it for something taller, but I cant find a factory .160 high rear sight blade. Everywhere I look is out of stock. Do any of you know where a man might find one?

I roll crimp. I could never get the bullets to stop pulling with a taper crimp.

It sounds like a lot of money, but this sport isn't so bad. Anybody here price skis lately?
3 gun. That's expensive. USPSA isn't so bad.

I won't be at nationals this year. I'll be celebrating my first anniversary with my wife. I wanted to make some bigger events last year, but life gets in the way. I'll continue to shoot the local matches, that's really what determines the health of the sport anyway.

Loctite on the break? Mine came loose at the last match.
Are you running a can? Loctite softens with heat, that's how you remove the red high strength stuff. Semi auto guns can get hot enough to soften the loctite. Rocksett resists the heat but that makes it a pain to remove. I wouldn't glue on a break unless I was screwing a can to it.

I feel it's bad practice to install a suppressor adapter with a crush washer even if the owner doesn't currently use it with a can. The owner may acquire a suppressor or sell the rifle. You have no control of this after it leaves your shop.

Anyone have experience with the Weigand rear sight blade?
Yup. I took it off my revolver. They are fragile and bend easily. The sight picture is good, but when they bend down you lose elevation. After I dropped a bunch of shots into hard cover on a classifier I went back to a factory blade.

I don't think there is much of an advantage below 7. I was running at 6 and I added a little weight back on because I found it too easy to skip by a chamber when i paused to correct a sight picture.

Are you planning on putting a rear sight back onto it? I don't have a super, but the .38's use a .250 high front combined with a .160 rear blade.

Allows for perfect alignment with the least amount of shim possible. A better alternative to peel or crush washers IMO.
I use those extensively in my shop. They're kinda expensive if you're only going to use one though.

The typical mark up on new firearms is 10 to 15%. 40 bucks on a $400 pistol is about right. Nobody is getting rich selling guns.

Remember about 7 years ago when it snowed like 18" every Friday for like 5 weeks? I never shoveled so much snow in my life!
Smitty
I was working in Aspen in '07-'08 when we had measurable snow every day for 60 days. We recorded over 40 feet that year. I wasn't to worried about shooting, the skiing was _very_ good.

Looks like 9 major and 40 minor.
I know what you're talking about, but it still sounds a little funny doesn't it.

I too use a race master. There it's an insert available for a 686, which is an L frame. I do not know how well it fits the 617 which is a K frame. It is true that my N frame insert can hold a smaller gun, it's a bit loose for anything but practice.
Safariland makes a holster called the 002 cup challenge. It has a split front and works with about any Smith and Wesson.

I have a box of j frame holsters. The nemesis is my pocket holster of choice. The super fly would be about the same if you pull the flap off. I think the flap is removable bit I've never owned one.

I've had a j frame on me nearly every day for 6 years. If you can master the trigger i don't think there is a easier gun to live with day in and day out.
I carry a Safariland speed loader, but i find it harder to conceal than the gun. Moon clips, especially in 38 are imho too fragile to carry. As mentioned earlier I think they would make for more reliable ejection. The speed strips are much easier to conceal, i carried one for years. They tuck into the watch pocket on a pair of jeans nicely, but they're not particularly quick to use.
No problem shooting lead that I'm aware of. I carry lead hollow point semi wadcutters in mine.

I shoot a 627. I trimmed some brass to .900 and tried the same LRN bullets I shoot in my full length brass but ~1 of 8 bullets keyholed. Occasionally 2 out of 8 keyholed, so it doesn't appear to one particular chamber in the revolver. The crimp groove is so far forward that the base of the bullet is into the case web. I assume this is causing the base of the bullet to distort.
I shot some reloads in the same brass that were loaded by my buddy Jim and the keyholes went away. He uses a 38 super style bullet, sized .358, that doesn't get into the web. These 160 grain bullets from Bayou Bullets do not have a crimp groove and I assume they need a taper crimp. Taper crimping for a revo is new to me, thus the question above. Jim uses a Lee FCD to crimp in his Dillon, I was just hoping to complete my loads in 3 pases through the single stage press.
I like the taper crimp on the seater die in my RCBS set for .45 acp. I did find a RCBS seater die in .38 super for sale today, has anyone used one of these with trimmed .38s?
I've had concerns about post sizing my ammunition with the Lee FCD. Could someone measure the inside diameter of the carbide sizing ring on their 38 super FCD?
-
I've decided to try playing with short brass. I've trimmed some remington brass to .900 and I've modified an expender die to work with the short brass. The bullets I intend to use do not have a crimp groove so I need a die that applies a taper crimp. What are you guys using? 9mm or 38 super dies? The bullets are lead, sized .358. I load single stage, so I would prefer to seat and crimp in the same die.
I see there are Lee factory crip dies available. I have not been able to locate an RCBS seater die. Midway has a Hornady 9mm/38 super New Dimension bullet seater available, but Midway claims it applies a roll crimp. That sounds like it was cut/pasted from another product description, but would the .358 bullets cause me troubles?

I hate winter in the Denver Area.
There's not enough snow to do winter related activities unless you drive up into the mountains, yet there's just enough snow to prevent you from doing other outdoor activities.
I just want to go shooting dammit.

I saw that. Does anyone have any idea how they're going to handle the lower times from the 8-shot guns? Have the high hit factors been adjusted or do they intend to flag the abnormal looking scores?

I'm sure a number of shops will put them up on gun broker when they ship. Prices will probably be ridiculous on the 929's as well.

Being as the stages are not published in advance, maybe they are planning on having several reworked classifiers at the Revolver Nationals. Reword them and give them a new number to keep them separate from the originals.
Reintroduce a few more at several of the larger matches to at least get a baseline for the revolver shooters. There are several coming up with upwards of 12 revolver shooters already entered, so with a little backwards math they could come pretty close to setting the 100% level.
But it's not just revolver shooters who would be impacted. Any change to a classifier has the potential to change scores for all divisions.
Well, Maybe---
WSB modification---
DIVISION SPECIFIC RULE, Revolver Division MUST reload after 6th shot regardless of revolver model.
All other divisions are unaffected by this special WSB rule
There are problems with that too. Because of minor scoring these people will be classified below their actual ability level, yet their extra capacity will allow them an opportunity to finish higher in the match.
Limiting Revolver shooters to 6 shots before a reload is unfair to the shooter, especially on classifiers with steel. Do you limit Single Stack shooters to 8? Their extra makeup shots partially offsets the minor scoring.
19 classifiers out of 82 favor the minor guns. Only 6 of your most recent 8 are used. The whole classifiers system still favors major scoring.
We need to save the classifiers we can, and reset HHF for the classifiers those that are likely to change.
