Measure the diameter at the bottom of the groove with your calipers. I forget the dimensions, but it seemed as though there were two different sizes and only the smaller size fit my moons. It was as though there were two machines set differently on the manufacturing line. I gave up on PMC when the larger size became the more common one in the brass I was getting.

So you have a blank muzzle cap and you want to remove it and re-crown? Why? The cap will protect your existing crown from damage. You can damage your crown with a cleaning rod or even a holster with a plug that goes into your barrel. If you have a device that prevents this damage why would you remove it and alter the gun?

ICORE is 6 shot neutral. Steel challenge courses use 5 shots, that leaves you two misses.

Some lots of brass fit my Remington moon clips very well. About 50%work, the cut is too shallow on the others. Unless you have a free source of brass it probably not worth fooling with.

In a 5" 627PC:
Remington 38 special brass
158 grain LRN from Colorado Cast Bullets
Federal small pistol match primers
Whatever powder I can currently get. Right now I'm using 4.5 grains of Unique.
I use a traditional roll crimp from RCBS dies.
It makes 134 power factor and holds X ring at 25 with room to spare.
My moon clips are made by a local machinist and appear to be TK copies. They are sized for Remington brass.

I played with 38 brass cut to 38 super length in my 627. I tried a variety of powders and bullets but I kept getting keyholes. My gun shoots smaller than the x ring at 25 with specials so I gave up. YMMV.

I still might do it just for the f*#k of it but honestly if I can't shoot it in IDPA then the new S&W 986 looks damn appealing all of a sudden.
If IDPA gives you grief about short colt, will they allow a 9mm conversion?
Ruger for sure (on the Security Six frame) and I think S&W (K frames) made 9mm revolvers. You might look for one of those. It could be cheaper than building one.Owned the S&W one and traded it for my 625. Not something you could convert to moon clips and 9mm speed loaders are no longer available.

While I can shoot splits just over .2 on bill drills at 3 yards, I probably average .3's on a field course.
I don't care for sub 6 lb pulls either. They are easy to short stroke or even skip by a chamber if you hesitate on a sight picture.
-
Shoot more, it will come down with time. Have you had the action tuned?I've just switched from autoloaders to a 627 but I'm having problems with split times. Not as far as fast splits on the field, but actually just pulling the dang trigger any faster than a .3 or so in dry fire without my finger getting really tired after just a couple of drills.
I've got a weak trigger finger. What would be the fastest way to strengthen it up so I can get faster at pulling the trigger?

The last USPSA match I shot, revolver division was won by a six shot minor gun fed with speed loaders. To some extent it's the archer not the arrow, but for USPSA an 8 shooter is easier.
929 sightings are like seeing Bigfoot. 9mm is appealing but you may need to crimp the loads differently than you do for your autos.
I like my 625 a lot, but I shoot my 627 better. I prefer the N frames to the L frames, I just don't dig the 686 all that much.

I see one of the links posted was for a guy on GunBroker that goes by the name Magnum Mark, this guy is the last person on the planet that I would buy anything from. He has a lot of stuff but I would not purchase from him.
+1
I too have had a poor buying experience from this guy.

The hammer dog (double action sear) is usually over fit from the factory leaving a "hump" in the middle of the trigger pull. A properly fit hammer dog can address this.I've never shot a Ruger that had a trigger even remotely close to the smoothness on my Smiths. I'm not saying it can't somehow be done, but I've never seen one and I've shot quite a few.
-
I am intrigued by the Rugers, but I wonder will they hold up the way my S&W have?I've thought about fixing up a GP100 for ICORE classic. The double action pull cleans up pretty well.
Rugers are stronger guns than the Smiths, the only drawback I see is the coil spring on the hammer may take a little more work to tune.

Welcome to the forum. I too work Saturdays. And every other Sunday. :/
I'm usually the only revo shooter, say hi and introduce yourself if you see me at the matches.

We had 10 revolver shooters at the Rocky Mountain 300 this year. Single stack and limited 10 only had 11 shooters combined between both divisions. I think the 8 shot guns are good for revolver, it certainly couldn't have gotten much worse. We had ONE rev shooter yesterday in Coljumbia SC out of 73 shooters and he was shooting a 625,six shot !

Pants? Are those the really long shorts?

We ran 1.2.18 for the ICORE Midwest regional and a follow up USPSA match. We had over 80 competitors over 2 days with zero problems.
Does 1.2.18 handle time plus matches like ICORE differently than 1.2.12? The input screen looked like a USPSA match on Saturday. Or did you only use Practiscore to collect data and score the stages in a separate program such as Excel?

... Killing time, waiting for the rain.

The larger frame 686 has a longer yoke. This provides more clearance for a speedloader around the grip.

.
The recommendation I got was to wait until the -1 or -2 comes out. Problems will be worked out by then and the initial craze will be over so they will be easier to get.
That assumes they make more than one run of these. I can't imagine this gun appealing to anyone other than us or the collectors.

Try Jack first. The website only has a phone number. A little more expensive, but they often have the parts when the others are out.

John, thanks for putting on another great match. I had a really good time today at the Rocky Mountain regional.

Comp III or Jet loaders are the fastest. They are spring loaded to shoot the cartridges into the chamber. Someone else will have to fill you in on the IDPA legal speedloader holders though, I don't play that game.
