  1. Wow... That would be nice. But then again any chance to fondle my gun is a good thing
  2. Been running a CR Speed for the last three IPSC seasons. Came with the used STI Edge I picked up. Pretty happy with it. Still never move past a fast walk without my hand on the back of my gun just in case. The lock is pretty strong though... I've gone through a number of draws at the buzzer where I had muscle the gun free due a forgotten lock. Checking the lock is now a mandatory part of my load and make ready
  3. I don't care who made it, who copied who, etc... that is one sexy looking rig!
  4. I've been using a Möbius camera the the rov rc guys use. Nice and small and light. Got it from here http://www.readymaderc.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=165_311
  5. Buddy wears a kilt now and again. Not something you want to watch on prone stages. There are some things you just can't un-see
  6. Thanks for the info. I'm looking over Accurate PDF right now. I guess its going to be a bit of trial and error. Forgot to mention ... Major Standard. A min power factor of 170. I run just under 175 to be safe. Any idea how to determine a max load for a different oal than a company lists? I think its safe to assume that a max of 6.6g for example is for that particular listed oal. If lengthening my rounds by .05 more than their example causes the fps to drop too low would it be safe to exceed the 6.6g max? I would think so but I don't want to risk my fingers and gun based on assumptions.
  7. Powder is all kinds of scarce up here in Canada so when something good comes up we jump on it pretty quick I might have the opportunity to pick up a pile of Accurate no5 if it works for me. Thing is I can't find any use full info on loading it for my application; 40 s&w, 180g,1.185 oal, making major power factor for IPSC in an STI Edge. My reloading manual doesn't list anything for that weight projectile nor that length and googling for days isn't working out. Anyways... I've been using titegroup for about three years and I thought I may try a slower less snappy powder. Anyone have any experience with this powder in this application? Any starting loads to hit major with?
  8. I'd buy them for the sex appeal alone ;-) But sadly up here in Canada its a bit of an issue to get them from what I have found.
  9. I struggled for too long to keep both eyes open before I resorted to the tape. I shoot right and am "kinda" right eye dominant. Slow shooting I could do it but fast IPSC... Not a chance. Way too nauseating. I am going to try some inserts with my right eye set for the front sight and the left for distance however.
  10. Ha... I was... Sorry... Typing before morning coffee looks like NOT a good thing for me.I would still bet that cramping is a muscular issue. Unless you've damaged nerves which you'd obviously know about. You shooting something with a long trigger pull? I'd be hard pressed to cramp up on my 2011 with its eighth of an inch, 3lb pull. I have locked up though trying to shoot too fast while too tense and ending up not getting the reset.
  11. I went the COC (captains of crush) route a year ago and haven't looked back. Hurt my hands a few times due to trying too hard and often. When I first got them I could a only close the 100lb a half dozen times and the 140 once with my strong hand only. Now I can do 7strlng hands and 5 weak hands on the 140lb and looking to buy the next step up. Made a huge difference in my gun handing. That and lifting free weights. And no I'm not a gym rat beefcake kind of build/guy... I'm just a regular everyday normal guy that works in an office all day. Shooting IPSC has actually bettered my health you could say. For the last three years I've had a reason to work out and eat healthy and actually see some results of my hard work. Give em a try. BTW... Just noticed your not a "dude". If you try hand strength trainers I'd start lighter than guys. I think guys probably have a stronger base to start with and your just going to hurt yourself if you try and match them. My wife is on the 80lb and working towards the 100.
  12. I actually had a piece of the foam sealing from the lid of my powder jug get stuck inside the measure. I noticed after about 300 rounds. Screened the rest of my powder and put it in a clean jug and spent the rest of the evening pulling bullets. Good times.
  13. I just sanded off all the plastic checkering and featherd the shapes by the grip screws with a... gasp... dremel. I went slow and steady on it and stopped just before the little squares dissapeared. Then I made some paper templates that I used on skateboard tape. Took a few tries with the paper but it was worth it. Mine covers the front strap and entire grip, including the grip screws in one continuous piece. Competed all year with it like that and no trouble in the heat or pouring rain. Previously I put the tape right over a stock grip and it lasted a match and a half.
  14. I would say no. Getting used to shooting small targets is fine but you need to know EXACTLY were the A-Zone is. That means shooting a full target over and over and learning from experience / mistakes where that perforated line is. By making a target just the A... all you have to do is put a round on paper and you're good.
  15. I use dummy rounds during dry fire primarily to get the gun at it's shooting weight and balance. I loaded up some rounds with no powder and filled the primer holes with orange ATV silicone. Then drilled some holes in the side of the brass. The orange ATV and the holes define them as dummy rounds.
  16. x2... when I find myself thinking of the people behind me I know my head is not in the game. It doesn't happen often though. Once I'm on deck my mind goes into the zone. I try and take BE's advice and be in the moment. For example, when I'm loading and making ready... I am loading and making ready. Not loading and making ready but thinking about a long b-zone.
  17. I'd be a willing test subject... but with the only stipulation that I be hypnotized to to shoot all A's at full speed
  18. I`m still using the tape after about 6 months of trying. Without the tape I can lock onto the front sight pretty good with my (more)dominant eye but in a match when things get fast and furious I have to squint the other so I can find it quick. And even then it`s still pretty iffy. But the worst part is I still see two targets that are both equally clear when focussing on the front sight. Really really messes up a match. So I`m sticking to the tape for now. Used it enough that I don`t notice it`s there at all.
  19. Unfortunately I'm one of those people who doesn't have one strong eye. All those tests about closing your hands around an object in the distance and then seeing which eye is looking at it... pointing at an object and then seeing which eye is looking at it... etc... don't work for me. Sometimes it's my left eye. Sometimes my right. I'm right handed and trying to be right eye dominant but I haven't been able to set that in stone in a year of trying. I can kinda-sorta do it if I concentrate really hard and don't move around much but it all goes to heck in an IPSC match. Too much going on to get it to work. So I am sticking with a bit of tape on my glasses(no pun intended). Squinting one eye was too much of a strain on my face and caused me to partially squint the open eye anyways. The tape is a bit of a pain to get used to but I can still see fine for reloads and moving. One thing I have noticed is that my left eye has a hair better vision than the right. So I'm going to save that as my redundant/backup eye
  20. Ironically I'm just finishing breakfast and going through the new posts while using my COC grip strength trainers. I have the T and the 1. The T is a nice warm up as I can close that indefinitely it seems. The 1 I can close a bunch of times with my strong hand but I'm still struggling with my weak hand. As mentioned before it's easy to plateau so I'm trying to mix it up. I did hurt my weak hand once and it took for ever to heal up so keep that in mind and go easy. On a side note... ya... the handles are really rough on the hands... and I have girlishly soft hands... so I left them bare and as a result it seems to have toughened up my hands a bit. either way... my 2 cents

Nice. That looks like it would get you going in the morning better than a cup of coffee. Which is blasphemy... because I'd still drink the coffee .
  22. Thanks for the tip guys. Really appreciated. I actually found some old footage of a steel stage where I had to hunch down to shoot through a port. As a result I ended up with my arms a lot straighter that Ive been shooting lately. And in that footage I was able to shoot a lot faster as the gun wasn't bouncing around as much. It seems I got caught up in trying to NOT lock my arms up so much that I took it too far. But I'm still trying. And trying even harder to make up time in other places. Reloads I'm super happy with. Draws to target are getting quicker. Transitions are coming along. But my next big real hurdle is shooting on the move. In the mean time... I now have Brians book and I'm going to try the timing drills next range trip.
  23. I've only been shooting in competitions for about a year... my experience is in the beginning I was closing my weak eye. This lead to a sore face/eyes from trying to squint so much. And I also flinched/blinked a lot because when I close my left eye, my right eye is half closed too. It's just the way I work. So I'm trying the two eye thing. That's how I shoot a scoped rifle. But my problem is that both my eyes are pretty much equal in strength. For the life of me I cannot shoot with both eyes open. So I do the tape trick on the left side of my glasses. Works great. No more eye strain. No more half-closed strong eye. I still am trying to train my eyes for no tape. I can do it occasionally with some pretty hardcore concentration but right now... I have to use tape competing or I'll revert back to one eye in a heartbeat just to make it though the stages.
  24. I made a combined still shot of how high the muzzle climbs on recoil. Not sure if this is bad or not. I'm sure I read somewhere that your front sight should not raise off the target during recoil. At 15 yards... mine does. For me the target disappears on recoil. Also I noticed in watching the above vid, the slow motion part, that the gun seems a little "bouncy" when the slide closes. Could I have too stiff a recoil spring in there or is it just the guy behind the gun?
  25. Updates: I did some more drills trying to not hunch down and not rolling my shoulders forward. As well trying to keep my elbows out more rather than pointing down. This does seem to help out. This vid shows a pace of about .5 splits shooting all alphas at 15 yards. Sorry for the blurry-ness... I was alone and it looked in focus on the small screen at the range.
