Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. As in getting to RCI to do the work that I alluded too above, or the original purchase?
  2. Ok the silence is deafning, I will send it to Benny!
  3. Apologies in advance for opening this can of worms ……. I have made the jump from years of pistol only competition to 3 gun. Knowing the addiction, I took someone's advice to buy once .. cry once and bought a Benelli M2 3 Gun Edition (RCI Version). Damn thing runs, and runs and runs. Feed it crappy target load ammo sitting in storage for 20 years (seriously) and it …. ran. A gun needs to go bang when you pull the trigger every time and that is a first order requirement. I only share this to present my expectations and to acknowledge the gun checks that box today. Having been in the game for six months or so, I am starting to find the few, ok really one, short coming inherent in the design. I am a weak hand quad-loader and there is not enough clearance in the port beyond the catch or relief on the weak hand side to get a positive feed once the mag spring starts loading up. I am having to poke a little thumb in the hole to get positive retention. Ideally, I would like to sweep the port for all loads, not just the ones early on. I have spent hours in the forums researching and seeking to understand two modifications that potentially will alleviate my issue. I have talked to Benny on the phone (thank you for your time) and several other well known M2 smiths. I was hesitant to come out and ask them too many question out of respect for their craft and their experience. For the issue I am looking to resolve, this is something I can tackle and have the laser focused patience and ability to do it correctly. My first modification is the shell catch, ie less tension while retaining strength and durability. A couple of Brownell's orders for spares and I have that one figured out based upon all of the posts of those before me. The real dilemma is the expansion of the loading port to support my weak handed quad loading. I have watched the videos countless times, read the step by steps and enlarged the pictures. I still have one question that I hope you can help me answer: As a frame of reference for everything I am about to say, Ma Benelli is flipped upside down, loading port facing up in my right hand with barrel facing forward. Everything that I have seen seems to show taking the forward most point of the port modifications well into the area where the magazine tube threads into the receiver. I realize that there is a lip that retains the follower and it seems to be present between 8 O'clock and 4 O'clock (looking from the receiver out of the barrel in the described position). I would think that opening up the port beyond that lip into the magazine tube extension area between 10 and 2 O'clock would leave plenty of lip present to stop the follower in its least tensioned position. It would also allow for me to get the shell engaged with the shell catch with minimal thumb presence into the port. Can some knowledgeable person please share constructive thoughts and criticism on my rational. In summary I am looking to understand the challenges in the forward most part of the loading port modification. Thank you in advance for your time.
