Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Made a quick and dirty stand to bring the feeder to more or less the correct height, works for now till the kit arrives someday. Works well feeding but I find the collator is only happy when it has a handful of bullets in it, when it gets down to a few they just don't fall into the grooves. Likely due to my agitators getting bent or something else not setup right but it feeds well when it has some to jumble around. Hopefully will get a good reloading session this weekend to really try it out! Cheers!
  2. Mind if I post a few here so I can include photos of my RCBS feeder setup in the Dillon forums? Trying to include photos of how it looks mounted on the Dillon 650XL but need to get post count up! Cheers!
  3. Well I could not stand leaving it there collecting dust so I made up a "quick and dirty" adapter with some wood and screws lol. Was finally able to try the feeder die out at least (still trying to find a way to mount the collator) and wow you can really fly now, easily does a lesurely 30 rounds a minute but you could push it faster if so inclined. Basically I used a longer bolt at the bottom of the powder measure and then used a single wood screw (you can't see if) to "lock" the piece of wood against the side of the powder measure. The screw fits into one of the angled cavities on the side of the powder measure. Since the RCBS feeder tries to push the wood backwards, the screw bumps against the cavity wall and prevents it from moving. Simple but works! Same trick RCBS uses in their kit. I'll take a pick of the adapter when I next have it apart. Looks like no more pinched fingers and now you can pay attention to the workings of the rest of the press (such as that damn case "ram" & feed mechanism that seems to occasionally double feed a case etc. Now that I've seen it work, it is important to note that it drops bullets on the DOWN stroke, which makes sense as a case would be coming into the die for seating on the upstroke. Was still pretty funny how I puzzled over why it wasn't working with the press in the up position and racked my brain only to lower the ram and plop goes the bullet... Cheers!
  4. Well it finally came, my RCBS .22 Cal Rifle Bullet Feeder. I'm stilling waiting for the RCBS Dillon Adapter kit (it's back ordered of course)... Once everything arrives I'll take all kinds of pics and details. However here are some quick notes that I've noticed no one else on the net has covered: 1. The current design of the RCBS Feeder Die does NOT allow for the Dillon Powder Check Die to be installed. - This is a major disappointment for me as it was one of the selling features compared to the Mr. Bullet etc. - There are two issues, one is the large clamp that goes around the RCBS die hits the powder check die and prevents the beeper unit from being installed. I might be able to extend it to make it work but for now thats one issue. The second issue is the RCBS Dillon 650 Adapter kit requires the feeder die to be installed right beside the powder measure. So you'd have to create a custom bracket to move it over to bullet seating station. 2. Due to how it mounts in station #3, you have station #4 free to install a competition bullet seater if you require one. I am finding so far that the RCBS included feeder/seating due will do just fine (it feeds and seats all in one) as I have the die mounted and tested (activating the dropper manually). 3. The feeder die looks almost exactly like the RCBS Gold Medal seating die so you may be able to adapt that instead of the included die. 4. There are not many parts to change over to .30 cal, so it may be a simple matter of ordering those as spare parts (if RCBS lets you, don't see why not). 5. Packing was terrible. My bullet disc was loose in the box as the "pool noodle" they used to retain it only holds one side and in shipping it must have worked loose, this broke part #5 (tube retainer) and bent all my "agitator" pins. RCBS is already mailing me the replacement part under warranty so not a huge issue. I have bent the agitator pins back to what I "think" is the correct position. 6. The collator is quite fussy about being level or just slightly off level. Not an issue if you use their mount but I'll see if it goes away once it's on the press. 7. The included collator stand/mount will not fit a Dillon 650XL with the Strong Mount kit, it's too short. Once you get the RCBS Dillon Adapter Kit, it includes new mounts to bolt it right to the press. Of course you could just use something to raise the included mount up higher (a few scrap 2x4's or so). Again not concerned as the stand is metallic green. 8. With the exception of the stand/mount, the collator, die and other bits are all BLACK and have no "RCBS Incredible Hulk Green" anywhere... thank god! Looks good on the blue press :-) Hopefully the adapter kits are black as well (or Dillon blue lol). I setup the collator on a bench and let it feed some .224 through it, worked quite well but the bullets seemed to take a while to stack up. Again will see once it's properly level and on the press (curious how much the shaking of a 650XL will affect it as .224 bullets are VERY light and can easily fall out of the disc grooves). I'm not too bothered about the powder check die as I weigh every single case on a digital scale before considering it "ready" and the powder check die can randomly get stuck/hung up. Still it is a feature I bought and liked on the press so I may look at shaving down the clamp around the RCBS die to make room for the check. Will post a follow up once the adapter kit arrives!! Cheers!
  5. Hi guys! New to register for this forum but been a lurker for quite a while. I'm looking at adding an RCBS Rifle bullet feeder with the Dillon conversion kit from RCBS. Is anyone running this setup currently? Curious to see if you make your own conversion parts or purchased the RCBS unit. Thanks!
