Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. When I shot IRC for the first time this year I basically did it with my IDPA gear in Classic Div. 686SSR 4" with Safarliand Speed Loaders. I'm contemplating stepping up my game for next year and I was given a chance to buy a used 6" 686 Competitor(http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product4_750001_750051_766129_-1_775655_757896_757896_ProductDisplayErrorView_Y ) for a decent price. What barrel and model are most other classic shooters using? -Euan
  2. He sure wasn't hobbling when I was trying to SO him, 2nd fastest time of the day, 15s, next fastest was 17, average was 25, and that was with a blown reload with retention that cost at least a second. Euan
  3. Mike, So glad you posted lost your email address, thank Brian a TON for his camera work, he did awesome. I got you on the GoPro 3 times, first 2 are ok, 3rd one you are looking all professional ;-) Raw files are here, download before playing, anything with your name is yours obviously, last one is the best one. http://sdrv.ms/148Ukm3 -Euan
  4. Finally managed to get my video edited from the match. , the 720p version really shows off how stunning the range was. Thanks go to SeanC and gang for all the tips. Can't wait for next year.
  5. Wow if you did that to me I'd likely hand you the timer and walk off. On any given month I may have; Done stats/reg for a 100 person idpa match Shared so duties at another idpa match Shared so duties at a weekly idpa indoor match Worked on stage design for various idpa matches Ro'd at several uspsa matches Done stats reg for uspsa Designed stages for uspsa Worked on match admin for uspsa Oh yeah and sometimes I shoot. Attitude like that at a local match for a minor mistake is what has me wondering why I bust my ass to help other shooters have a good time.
  6. This! I knew that certification would bring me more than fame and glory! I thought it was a rule. All the places i shoot at (PNW) do it. There is a PNW section rule that ROs get a 5 discount, squad leaders another 5 and for a while scorekeepers were getting a discount if they took a practiscore compatible device to the match
  7. Thanks for all the tips folks, I presume they have mats or carpets for going prone? -Euan
  8. Starting to get serious about the match now, some questions for the more experienced (its my first time at IRC and I only started shooting revolver in Oct), I'll be shooting a 686 SSR in classic, with Safariland Comp III's and I managed to secure some of the official ICore Remington 158gr Lead Round Nose Ammo.. 1/ Round Count for Match + Classifier, I know its not officially published yet but what sort of ball park? I have 750 rds right now and I was hoping 500 would be enough for classifier + match and spares so I can use 250 in practice on top of my regular ammo. 2/ Near and Far Stds, I'm C Class USPSA and MM for IDPA, what sort of goals should I be setting ? - I am wondering whether going prone will make much difference at 50yrds as there is not really a range round where I can practice, I can do 25 though. Should I just start facing up range and make sure I get the rounds off or try and get down knowing that I'll likely only get 3 rounds off with unknown chance of hits. - Based on my current draw and reload times(my consistent draw is 1.5s and a good speed loader reload is around 2.5s) 3 and 10 yards look tight, if this was IDPA and no par time I would be expecting perfect hits with all shots at both distances but with the time constraint should be fun. Thanks for any pointers. -Euan
  9. I must be missing something because I don't understand why you put a mag on your belt that is short one round, sure its the 3rd mag but what if you screw up the reload or have a stoppage or ... Why even take the risk? I have one way of doing things that works for Production, Limited, L10, Single Stack, ESP, CDP, SSP. Mag in front pocket with one round in it, start mag in back pocket with div capacity/fully loaded depending on state and division. On make ready/load and make ready take mag from front pocket chamber the single round by inspecting the mag I know whether it chambered or not. Remove mag put in back pocket, retrieve start mag from back pocket insert and double check it seated correctly done. Same procedure, 7 different divisions, 4 different guns, 2 different sports.
  10. Whether the different mags per stage is interpreted to exclude this or not there is still a problem. If the 3rd mag is coming out on stages where you don't need it then it's still going to come out on stages when you do. This is a dislodge, not a drop unless it's part of a reload when this happens. If its dislodged it's because it was not secured correctly, hence a PE. Fix the retention, problem addressed.
  11. I started shooting revo in IDPA late last year and have been plodding along with a 686 SSR. I wanted to go to bigger match so in a moment of insanity I signed upf or this years IRC match. The ammo I have been using up until now is legal for IDPA (108 PF) but not for ICORE so I am trying to get an ammo selection sorted, very challenging in current times. Today I chrono'd 4 different factory loads, only one made power factor, S&B 158 made 121PF, thats a little tight for my liking. One of the loads I chrono'd was what I think is one of the official ICORE ammos, 158gr UMC Lead. I know that as long as I use that there is no chrono requirement, but it only chrono'd at 115PF. I'm still waiting on .38 Special dies from Dillon to try my own loads so I have to assume I am using factory for now. Is this ammo the offical ammo? Any suggestions on a way to safely compete with factory? Thanks -Euan
  12. Even if idpa changes the rule for ssp that's not going to help. The limit for ESP today is 43 and the ar is 2.2 oz too heavy and it doesn't fit in the box by a couple of mm.
  13. The maths is not as simple as splitting the 1200. Many ranges charge the action sports clubs to use them (in theory they could rent the space for LE or Training). So that digs into thr 1200. Then the club has to pay for targets, steel is not cheap and a 200 rd match probably means 80-90 cardboard targets. Then you have to decide who gets paid? The registration guy? The stats guys? The match director? Range Master? How many RO's? 2 per squad? Do they have to be certified? What happens if not enough certified ROs turn up for the match do the non-pro standins get paid? Most matches round here the ROs, Stats, Setup etc guys get a break on entry, between 5 and 20 bucks depending on club and role, how is that any different?
  14. I recently purchased a used 686 for IDPA(my first revolver). The previous owner had replaced the factory sights. The rear is ok but I prefer an adjustable, the front blade is much wider than I am used to (I run a Dawson Fiber 0.100 on my Semi-Auto's). The gun will primarily be used for IDPA shooting so a max distance of 35 yrds, I'd like to try ICORE at some point so rarely out to 50 as well Looking around Bowen Classic Arms, Rough Country sights seem to be popular for an adjustable rear, but I am torn between the Square-Notch/White-Outline and the target sights. The target are closest to the Bomar style rears I tend to run but in the pics the notch looks narrow and I worry about a pure target sight at speed in IDPA and ICORE. The square cut notch looks good though I would probably black out the white outline as I don't shoot anything else with that stye of sight. My big question (despite having tried to use their S & W sight height page) is what height of sight is the right one for the 686 SSR for a factory point of impact? So now onto the front sight, I see Dawson have a Pro Series Front Sight that would be a match for my Semi Autos, but I had read a number of people using Hi-Viz fronts for S&W Revolvers. They have a SW3000 that looks like the right type. Again I am looking for for the size/style recomendation as Dawson and Hi-Viz height options seem really different Any feedback/advice gratefully received. -Euan
