  1. Here's a thought to ponder. It has been said that the PD is and was intended to be an "entry level" division. Uh, if that is true then why do we have GMs, Ms, and A and B class shooters in PD? It may have been thought to be an entry level division years ago, but it, like every other aspect of our sport, has evolved into something more. That "more" is a highly competitive division where more and more shooters who normally shoot Open or Limited, are shooting Production as a second gun. That is where a large number of the growth in PD has come from. Leave it alone and let it continue to evolve.
  2. Just the number of responses on this thread tells me that if the rules are screwed with too much, we'll have an IDPA style rebellion on our hands. Clarify the language, such as to define US Appendix D9 21.4 "action work to enhance reliability ( throating, trigger work, etc.) is alowed. Remove the "etc" and define "action work to enhance reliability". Might I suggest this: Action work to enhance function and reliability is allowed, such as; Throating, polishing of trigger and other action components, replacement of springs or spring units. I add the spring units since some manufacturers use captured spring units.
  3. Ditto that Production is not an entry level division. It may be where a large number of shooters have started, but many have to start where the gear they currently own fits. I personally hate the 10 round limit but it's a rule and I live with it. Rather than change rules that have been used since Production Division was created, define the parameters and be specific as to what is allowed as an internal mod and what is allowed as an external mod. Why the fuss over milling the slide for a Bowmar cut? It's not going to lighten the slide enough to be a competitive advantage, and the Bowmar is still a notch and post. I shoot a Beretta 92 Elite and have done a fair amount of work on it. At this point nothing that would come close to causing me any heartburn if rules were tightend. So far I have; Changed sights front and rear ( LPA adjustable) Grip tape on front strap. Totally resprung. Polished every moving part internally. LTT solid guide rod. Internal trigger overtravel stop. All of the above has resulted in a trigger pull of 6lb in DA and 3lb in SA. If I were so inclined I could go further and knock off another lb from each but I would rather have a gun that is reliable rather than a race gun.
  4. Why change it at all? The rules are pretty clear as is. Enforce the rules we have. What is so hard to understand about internal vs external. 10rnds or full capacity, I would prefer full capacity but I understand the reasons some feel it important to keep it as is. Within the rules we now have it would be pretty hard to get away with much. Add more rules to the list and we will need range Gestapo to monitor who is legal and who isn't. Lets just load & make ready.
  5. The match was a blast, but that mud was unlike anything I have ever seen. Like liquid clay.
  6. I had one on one of my Berettas. Took it off and sold it. I found, for me, that my reloads were faster by simply re-installing my mag release to the right side. Like I said, it worked for me. Might want to try it before spending the money.
  7. I can't wait to hear what that would be.
  8. I had the same mag release / grip problem, sort of, with my Berettas. I have an Elite 92G and an FS. Both have had major action work and are very sweeeeet. How I got around the grip problem when changing mags, was to simply remove a couple of coils from my mag release spring and reverse the release to the right side. Problem solved, no need for the tuperware.
  9. I haven't heard any ##(*^&*%^$& about the PD rules. I shoot a Beretta Elite and have tweeked it to the maximum allowed. Most every PD gun has had something done to it. SO what. Thats part of the fun. I believe the rules are pretty clear. What's not to understand? Internal vs external, OFM style grips and keep it to no more than 2 oz over factory weight. Pretty easy. I have done a ton of work on my Beretta and it is sweeeeeet, 100% within the rules and gives up nothing to any other legal gun.
  10. I feel your pain. I'm a lefty but grew up being taught to shoot by right handed shooters. In the Army I didn't like getting brass in my face so I got used to shooting my M-16 right handed. I rarely shoot left handed except when practicing and when the course description calls for weak hand.......I always say I don't have one.
  11. I've been using the belt feed most of this year in production. I used my scoring overlay, issued during RO class a while back, and it does in fact pass muster, being well within the 50mm rule. As to the belt feed in operation, it does work well, but you will need to practice with it. It has it's own manual of arms. Draw from back to front outboard before drawing from the inner mag holders. Another suggestion is to heat and re-shape the tabs that snap over the belt for a more secure grip on the belt. Last but not least make sure all ags to be used in the Belt-Feed are all the same make and size. I had an issue using mags made by Beretta USA and also Beretta Italy. Look the same, not the same exact deminsions. Caused a sloopy fit and resulted in mags being pulled out when drawing an adjacent mag. Like I said, it works well if you practice with it and are aware of potential problems.
  12. The trigger from Brignolli you speak of would not be legal in USPSA because it is for a gun that is not legal in production class.
  13. In my Elite I use a Wolff 1911 16lb. I use Atlanta Arms 147 JHP Match. Never had a FTF.
  14. And that would be a problem how? You can shoot major if you want, just be scored minor. If production goes major/minor then minor will pretty much be pointless, kind of like shooting minor in L10, Limited and Open.
  15. This is pretty much a dead horse so let's get off or move where it does not apply. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sorry to have wasted yor time, just responding to a question. Maybe it's not a dead horse. I have been hearing a fair amount of buzz on it lately.
  16. I would agree that it would not be allowed in production, as it is a custom shop addition. YES, the 10 rnd limit on production should be done away with.
  17. The same sights that PSI says they sell for the Beretta, LPA, are available from Brignoliarmi.com, at about $40 bucks shipped. I installed one on my Elite and it rocks. Before that I wasn't real happy with my hits on steel at anything much beyond the 7m minimum. Tac, you shot my Elite last week at NTPS. How did you like the sight compared to others, especially the factory "canyon notch" sight?
