Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. The "no walk thru" stuff last year was terrible and I swore that I would not come back if that was how the match was going to be run in the future. I was pleased when I heard at the awards ceremony that the problem would be fixed in 2006. I rushed my app in for the 2006 match but, now in light of the MD's comments above, plan to get my money back and stay home. Area 2/Desert Classic has always been known for great tough stages which is why it has been so sucessfull however, if the match staff thinks they can ignore what the shooters want and remain sucessfull they are mistaken. I don't care if the prize table is worth 200 thousand plus bucks it ain't worth it. LIZARD OUT
  2. Chris, I started loading in the late '60s on an RCBS Junior press. Turning out a couple hundred rounds of pistol ammo took awhile but we didn't know any better. Now with two Super 1050s I feel like I'm in paradise. However, RW still loads all his ammo on an RCBS Rockchucker..he says he finds it relaxing. LIZARD OUT
  3. I'm using 3.4-3.5 gr of Tightgroup, 147 gr Montana Gold bullets. WSP primers, and Federal brass. 1.130" OAL to fit into Glock mags. It's very soft shooting and has a very consistent 130-131 PF. LIZARD OUT
  4. I solved the whole problem by cutting the slide stop off flush with the slide. Now it locks open only when the mag is empty and the slide doesn't close on an empty chamber. Only down side is if I run the gun dry (bad thing) I have to "sling shot" the slide after I replace the mag.
  5. I'm having a strange problem when I reload my G34. The slide will come back out of battery about 1/8". The gun will do this more often with a 13# recoil spring but will sometimes do it with the stock spring as well when I insert the mag forcefully. I'm using a reduced power striker spring and ten round mags. Anybody got any ideas? LIZARD OUT
  6. I use RCBS measures with thier case activater linkage and mic adjustment on my 1050s. I use the small drum for pistol and the large for rifle. The nice thing about this setup is that I can locate the powder measure at any station because I am not tied to the linkage on the press. If I am loading pistol, I set it up right before the bullet seat die. If I am loading rifle, I set it up right before the powder check die. The RSBS is also a lot easier to empty--one easy to reach screw to undo and slip off the spring. The mic adjustment is alot easier to get adjusted and you can go back to a setting with ease. 7. The question is, "Why?" Because it is cheap? Buy a jug of Tightgroup or Universal Clay and load your pistol stuff. Slower is NOT safer. Slower is just slower. LIZARD OUT
  8. For OPEN .40: 155 gr. MTG JHP 6.1 Universal Clays 1.175" OAL WSP primers 177.2 PF at US Nationals(a little hot but better than 164.99999) For LIMITED .40: 165 gr MTG JHP 5.7 Universal Clays 1.175" OAL WSP primers Mid 170 PF LIZARD OUT
  9. I load military 9MM brass on my Super 1050 and have notice the same thing however, it doesn't seem to cause any problem and the next time I load the brass the decaping pin knocks out any small burr over the flach hole. If I'm loading commercial brass, I use a non-Dillon expander and avoid any potentional problem. When I load .40, I don't use the Dillon expander either because it bottoms out on the web of the case about the same time you get a good bell. With .223, I size/deprime, swage the primer pockets and trim using a Dillon power trimmer. I then tumble the brass to remove the lube and then use a Redding neck size bushing die without a bushing (you could use a universal depriming die) to insure the flash holes are free of burs and tumbling media. 10. Try moving the attachment point on the primer tube up and down a VERY small amount. Once the cosmic point is found that allows the primer slide to work like it should don't move it to change shell plates or you will have to start all over again. I have two Super 1050s and have owned a 1050 and the weak point on all of them has been adjusting the primer feed. LIZARD OUT
  11. I have been using UC in .40 IPSC/IDPA ammo for six years or so and have found it to vary slightly from lot to lot. I don't think this is unique to UC. I've found the answer to powders/bullets/primers lot variations is to get in enough components to load a bucket full and then make a test load and chrono and test until you have what you want. Then and only then, use all the same components to load a bucketful (5-6000 rounds). As for brass, I use only the same headstamp at any given time. I would like to use only the same lot but that isn't practical when you get your brass back at a match. The bottom line is if you change any one component you can't expect the load to be the same.
