Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Thanks! I have been practicing quite a bit. I'm waiting on some belt caddys to come in the mail, so I've just been practicing with 4 in the hand. Out of curiosity, how long is your barrel? I didn't even think about changing choke tubes inbetween stages. I'll take my other tubes with me. I'm used to running a full choke, even in my 22", for shooting trap. I know, 22" for trap is funny, but it makes me damn quick to get on the bird!.
  2. Which load are you referring to? My trap load? The trap load is not even 1200fps. I have tried the trap load. It seemed it would jam on about every other round or so. However, when I put the same loads in my 1100 trap, it would cycle them alright. I did some research awhile ago when trying to figure out why it was doing that. Based on the photos and information I uploaded to a different site, I was told to change my carrier dog follower spring. I did so, and really haven't been able to test it yet. I'm going to with my trap loads this week. However, I was also told by more than one person that they needed heavier loads to get their guns to cycle properly when they were demonstrating the same issues as mine was. So, the trap loads COULD be alright. Being that I have limited time before the first match this weekend, I don't want to take a chance. I was going to load some heavier loads to try at the range tomorrow with my normal trap loads. I looked up Alliants reloaders guide again and found that Green Dot with my other components will provide the 1250 I'm looking for so I think I'll give that a shot. The high base duck loads is also a good idea.
  3. Thanks. I've used the Alliant reloader's guide. That's how I made the trap load I have now. I was told by a few different people (and read elsewhere) that I need to get the load to at least 1250fps for my gun to function properly. Is Green Dot a slower burning powder?
  4. Hello. I'm going to shoot 3 gun for my first time this weekend. I have a Remington 1100 w/ 22" barrel, 8+1 (Tac 4). I have been reloading my own trap shells, a very basic gun club trap load, for a little more than a year. I have a bag of 7.5oz shot, winchester AA wads, gun club hulls, and CCI 209m primers. I'd like to make a good load for 3 gun, preferably with the components I have, and buying the right powder. I was talking with someone the other day who said I needed a slower burning powder than the Aliant Red Dot I have to get to at least 1250fps and help my gun cycle properly. Fair enough. Do any of you have recipes, or could point me in the right direction? I'd like to stick with the components I have, but if I really need to buy new primers also I will. As for the choke, I did a search and it looks like I should probably run an IC for 3 gun. Does this sound right? Thanks in advance.
  5. Alright, alright! I did some research, read some reviews, and found some you tube footage of the CR belt. I'm sold. I found it for only $20 more than I was going to spend anyways. I'll end up using it for 3 gun, IDPA, and USPSA - so it will get it's use. Thanks again for the input.
  6. Apparently the Eagle Industries belts are difficult to find right now and they are way behind on production. I'm looking for something similar in that same $30ish price range. I see a million Bianchi's, Blackhawks, and 5.11's that are similar in price. Before I just pick one, does anyone have an endorsement towards one or the other?
  7. Guys. Thanks for the input. Chandler, I initially didn't read your response in the other thread. Chandler is helping me out with some extra California Comp works for a great price. Forums like this are great, and this is one of the main reasons. I really appreciate the help. You sir, are a gentlemen and a scholar.
  8. Hello. I have a Rem 1100 Tac 4 that I'm going to start using for 3 gun this year. What type of loads are you guys loading up for bird and buck shot? I had a problem with some of my gun club 7oz. trap loads last year. I just replaced the carrier follower spring, but haven't had it back out on the range to try it out. Edit: I should have noted that I'm reloading myself, and am looking for recipes to use with the Gun Club hulls that I already have (in particular). I WOULD like to know what works for your Rem, also.
  9. Alright guys, you have my attention. I know I need to get some shell caddy's, but was hoping to make due for awhile before investing in them. Can you point me towards some of the cheaper ones that work pretty good? Remember, I'm new to 3 gun, and don't need top quality right now. I just need something to get started with. It's either going to be that or a bandoleer for starters.
  10. Guys, thanks a bunch for the info. I'd love to get some good belt caddy's, but I need to watch the budget for now. I figured, as you guys have said, that I'll need to get there and see what others are doing/using and then decide on what will work for me. It is the same as when I first started IDPA. Unfortunately, I have no like minded friends (firearms wise) who share my enthusiasm for shooting sports. Nor do they even own their own firearms, so I'm winging it solo.
  11. Well, in the interim at least, I don't plan on spending a ton of money on extra shot gun shell storage (for instance). I was planning on carrying a maxpedition dump pouch, and a side saddle on my shotgun. Could I switch belts out in between stages, and just switch to a bandoleer style SG shell belt for those weird type instances/stages? I'm trying to avoid spending that much money, at least right now. I read up a bit on the ELS system, and I wasn't really that impressed. I find the information on their site to be lacking enough details/photos to really sell it for me. I'm sure it's better than I currently believe it to be, but I'm not going to know that until I see it in use. In the meantime, could I get away with having an extra dump pouch on hand in case I need to carry more SG shells? I really appreciate all of your help and suggestions guys, as it's all guess work for me until I get to my first match. Thanks.
  12. Hello. Does anyone use their Garret Industries holster for 3 gun? I use mine for IDPA, and am starting 3 gun this year. I was wondering if anyone has had retention issues while using it for 3 gun. I'm pretty confident in the holster, even without a mechanical retention device. I can hang my 1911 over the bed, magazine loaded, and shake it several times without it falling out. I get tired shaking it before the gun's even moved a hair in the holster.
  13. It will primarily serve as a 3 gun belt. I have a duty belt that I use for other work. It may serve for other purposes depending on work assignments in the future. However, right now, I'm most interested in 3 gun. I have not competed in an event yet, but have competed in IDPA. The appeal of the eagle industries belt was the pricing, as well as the decent/good reviews I've read about it. I'm open to suggestions & web links, but I really want to stay in this price range. I also figure that once I get out to a few matches and see different people use, I may get different ideas and buy something else. I figured this eagle belt was at the very minimum, a good starter/entry point.
  14. Hello. I'm going to buy the duty belt from eagle industries. How does it secure around your waist? Is it like a standard duty belt that requires an under belt with belt keepers to attach the two together? I have an uncle mikes under belt if need be. I see that they carry the belt keepers, so I'm assuming I already answered my own question, but I was hoping to find feedback from someone who's used one of these. The interior of the belt looks like velcro, so I was wondering if that provides extra traction/stability on a velcro out style belt. Thanks.
