  1. I have a may 2013 pro 5" 40 that has the old style sear block that will except a RAM. It was my understanding that all the PROs came this way. I do not have a FSS yet it is on my list but i do have a CAEK with a AEK Aluminum trigger. I have found that the best way to set the trigger bar loop is to have it break as far rear as possible. this gives a long take up but a short reset which is more important to me.
  2. There is no standing still in life, you are either moving forward or moving backwards because no one around you is going to stop and wait for you. Work hard everyday to better yourself no matter what the task is. my strength and conditioning coach in hischool
  3. The only money I plan on spending is on match fees and ammo at this time.... we shall see how long that lasts. Just ordered 2000 200gn lead bullets. mail man refused to deliver the flat rate box had to go pick it up from the post office. One thing I love about shooting sports is everyone is more then willing to help out the unkown face.
  4. I run an MP Pro 40 5" in limited. SSS Limited Aluminum Mag well SSS Tungsten Guide rod SSS Brass mag well retainer( honestly the weight difference is very small) Apex Aluminum trigger Apex Competition AEK kit Dawson adjustable rear sight and fiber front sight. After some tweeking of the trigger bar loop I get a very nice pull. The break is all the way in the back, breaks very crisp, no over travel and this also gives me the shortest reset. breaks at 3.5 lbs.
  5. Recently started shooting Pistol games. Got a deal on a Handgunners backpack. I like it for what it is but using it as designed I do not have any where to put ammo. So I've changed things up a bit so my Maint kit, Ammo and muffs go in the pistol compartment and my guns go in the hearing compartment. So heres whats in my kit. Let me know if I am missing anything Primary Gun M&P Pro 5" 40 Back up gun M&P VTAC 40 4 140mm Magazines 2 15rd factory mags (these will work in the back up gun if needed and i can use the bodies and followers for the primary) Uplula Mag Loader Electronic muffs Disposable foam plugs( need to get custom molded plugs) My Eyes dont stay in my bag, They are Rx safety glasses i wear at work all day so i keep them in the car. Staple gun Box of Staples Roll of Duck Tape Mag Brush Grease and a little bottle of oil Cleaning kit (self contained bore brush, jag, mop, 25 patches, rod and screw driver bits) Gun cloth Allen kits ( metric and standard) Torx kit ELS Belt 2 mag pouches DAA Racemaster Spare parts kit ( I know I need more) -Spare Batteries for the Ear Muffs -Factory grip retainer -Factory Striker Spring -Fatory trigger -Factory recoil spring assembly -13lb and 18lb recoil springs ( I run 15 have them on order) -Chamber Flag -Some q tips Now I Keep a complete tool kit and spare parts kit in the car (Think everything I have for guns). Plan on ordering a lot more spare parts to match the atermarket parts I use including recoil springs, apex spring kit, mag springs, Also want to get a paster gun and spare hardware for the race master. I would also like to get a mesh tarp (CED) for practice. So tell me what do you think. Am I missing something? All this goes inside the back pack which has a built in rain cover and goes with me form stage to stage. I've never had an issue at a match so im not sure what te procedures are when it comes to going to your car to get tools and and parts and fixing the issue during a match. Oh and in case you notice in the picture I keep my spare compact mags in the bag so I can just load up the guns and go to the range. EDITED because I don't know ow to load pictures.
  6. I use a DAA Race Master for Limited. I was using a Safariland ALS for Tac Ops and removing the retention device for pistol games until I got the DAA. Have not shot a 3 gun match since ive started using the DAA and dont know if i would use it in 3 gun or not.
  7. I would shy away from mounting them upside down. yes they are easier to remove but gravity is working against you, i the top of the clip gets bumped its falling out, with a holster your looking at a DQ. The bolt pattern between the ELS and QLS are different. .
  8. I'm looking for a major load that shoots softly. Will these feed in an MP? Specifically Missouri bullet co. I have been shooting 180gn lead with bullseye and im just about out of it. Was planning to switch to titegroup as i have 2 lbs but with the cost and availability with plated rounds and how much it smokes with lead bullets at major velocities. I bought a lb of WST today. If they will load can someone please give me a starting point at MP COAL? Thanks
  9. Finally got off of my ass and went to a local USPSA match. I have shot a couple 3 Guns but had to sell all my caddies but dont have the funds to replace them yet, havnt shot any match in over a year. Well I finally got up and shot a Pistol match because i have everything for that. Shot Limited with my MP40 PRO 5" with all the goodies. Was alot of fun, Pistol has always been my weakest link so i plan on shooting atleast one match a month. Went in with a simple goal of not DQing. First stage was a standards stage, first time I have shot a Virginia count, and I missed my last shot and took another shot out of habit. Well I got warned once that i came close to the 180 on the second stage ( first had no movement) I am a righty and I had to choose between going backwards or going to my left so i went to my left. Nice helpful talk with the RO as soon as the buzzer went off with him kindly warning me and taking the time to tell me exactly what I did wrong. Forgot about 2 mini poppers that where hidden behind 2 full size poppers,Told my self in the walk through but I shot the big ones and moved on. Add to that that i forgot to reload and went to slide lock with one target lef As the match went on I got used to the luxury of shooting a big cardboard target instead of 8" steel plates ( my clubs plate racks) and had a miss on a Virginia count classifier(this time i only loaded my mags to what was needed, but looking back if i would of had a malfunction i would of gotten a FTE), round went to the let of the target when transitioning between targets left to right. . Over all I am happy and hooked now, EVERYONE was nice and helpful. cant wait for the next match.
  10. I have changed cheek pieces and adjusted the stock shims. i had to hold way high to hit clays when shooting trap and my slug point of impact was way low. i Called remington and ordered both cheek pieces. I don't have good luck with zeroing with patterning board. so i went to a rifle range with slugs. 2 3 shot groups at 50 yards one with each cheek insert. found the closest insert then messed with the stock to get the windage and the elevation perfect. Now when I shoulder the shotgun It hits where I look, couldnt of made it easier unless they gave you the other inserts with the gun.
  11. http://www.tsa.gov/traveler-information/firearms-and-ammunition That is a link to the fire arms specific TSA rules. I always have a copy in my gun case along with a copy of my airline rules although flying Southwest I have never needed them. also have contact info including flight info on both sides of the case. TSA does not want TSA locks on it. I have always flown with a pelican that carries my 3gun stuff, fits all 3 guns, 3 140mm mags and cleaning rods. I have a padded custom made case that it goes inside of just so it doesn't scream steel me and the locks and tag is all out of sight, this case has tsa locks on the zipper. now all my ammo( I usually ship most of my ammo and buy birdshot near the match when I can) and gear goes into a my range bag which fits into a large suitcase with all my clothes and other dead weight. "TSA must resolve all alarms in checked baggage. If a locked container containing a firearm alarms, TSA will contact the airline, who will make a reasonable attempt to contact the owner and advise the passenger to go to the screening location. If contact is not made, the container will not be placed on the aircraft."
  12. A little background. My first Shooting sport was trap, hen skeet and 5 stand, then got invlved in Fclass and long range tactical competition. I eventually jumped head first into three gun which I have struggled with a pistol. Now until a month or so ago i didn't have a range where I could actually practice at and shoot at speed ( just MO conservation ranges that are setup to sight in). Now that I have have somewhere to practice I have decided to get into USPSA shooting for a season to force the pistol issue. Now with my rifles the scope, or redot you cover the target, my shotguns have always been fitted so I cover the target or clay with the F/O. Now I out of habit setup my Dawson adjustable sights so the target is covered by the F/O. which is what I am used to. Now my question, It seams that every pistol shooter holds just under the target so the target sits ontop of the front sight post. Is it worth it for me to retrain my self with the pistol to hold it as the majority does. And what are the downsides to the target being covered.
  13. Thank you for the picture. I will see what i can come up with sometime this week when mine shows up.
  14. i understand the small fortune. the FSL are not cheap. I have never been on a stage that required more than 60 rifle rounds. Now i dont keep two 30 rounders on the belt. I keep a 30 and a 20. The 20 is great for prone, and doesnt slap around as much. the only reason i always have two is in case of a malfunction or I drop a mag or something. now the ar mags dont clutter up anything or me they are both at 6-8 oclock.
  15. Mine has been cannibalized until Jan I sold my FSL-12s to someone who had money and couldnt wait until the next run whch worked out because i can afford to shoot any more 3 gun untik spring..I normally run from right hip around: QLS Safariland ALS holster, (can be changed to an additional FSL-12 if needed) FSL-12 FSL-12 FSL-8(slugs and or buckshot) Safariland pistol pouch Safariland pistol pouch safariland AR Mag pouch safariland AR Mag pouch This gives me 32 shotshells plus 9 in the gun with the ability to add 12 more i needed 40 pistol rnds plus 21 in the gun. and more then enough AR mags Now for USPSA limited i Currently use the same holser although i am looking at race holsers and i have 3 of the same mag pouches i use in 3 gun
  16. Before I order this holster has anyone mounted one of these to a QLS or even an ELS fork?
  17. Mine is setup so everything can be moved. i have a QLS plate for the holster and ELS plates all the way around. I shoot uspsa limited and tac irons in 3 gun. so the belt can change very fast wihout having to take i off. If I have a heav shotgun stage with no pistol I have a shotshell holder that has a Qls fork on the back to replace the holster. The QLS is a bigger stronger als adapter.
  18. Every Dawson sight comes with a note that says you need to keep them oiled to avoid rust
  19. Well thanks for the info guys. After I shoot these I'm going to order some more. As far as powder. I wanted to try titegroup but couldn't find any so I used up the last of my bullseye from 45acp (gun was stolen). Now I can't get bullseye but I found 2 lbs of titegroup. I've also got a 4 lb of power pistol but it kicks like a mule. I think I'm going to load a ladder of titegroup bullseye and power pistol and see which one i like best for major and minor with the appropriate springs.
  20. Nevermind I just looked and they are sold out.
  21. Not brass but last time I was on SSS they had aluminum limited magwell a in stock. I just ordered a brass grip retainer to go with mine.
  22. I'm relatively new to the world of 40. I have been getting into uspsa limited and have a batch o about 900 pieces off brass with 5-6 firings about half a witch are major loads using 180 gn lead and powerpistol. The other half with bullseye and the same bullets. I've recently come across some tight group which I hope will work better (less smoke, cleaner gun). Anyway the majority of the brass I have came from a lucky day at a range when a PD was there heading towards the trash with it.. so i assume that was its first firing. Well after I've reloaded it 5 or so time (I have yet to find a reliable way to track firings when im constantly scrounging at the range) the majority of the brass has loose primer pockets, not loose to the point where they are falling out but loose to the point that I can seat them 90% with fingers. This is shot out of 2 M&P pistols 1 4.25 and 1 5", ran through dillon dies and loaded on a 550B with just enough bell to not shave the lead. i have had no cracked necks or loss of neck tension. So my question after all the crap i just typed for an unknown reason. What should i expect out of 40 Brass? What are the first signs of the brass nearing it's end? Ive just never had pistol brass have loose primers.
  23. It looks like the rear sight dovetail on the core has been moved farther rear. Why dont you send Dawson an email and see if they have or can make a sight set. I can see the front sight being the same as the standard.
  24. I finally got home. There is no way a sight that tall will fit in an ALS without cutting the front of the sight channel up. Even then you will hook the locking mechanism with the front sight even not drawn perfectly. I have only shot some steel with these sights 1 time so I'm still working on that draw. Now the reason I bought an ALS was or retention during 3gun. But it looks very simple to remove the retention part of it. So I might remove the lock when i do not need it. this should result in much easier draws.
  25. I have a .285 Dawson front sight I will have to check clearence when I get home
