I’m assuming you’re referring to the black 10 rd 10/22 mags.  I’m also assuming you frequently clean the bolt.

Several of my friends and myself included have found the black 10 rd mag to be unreliable.  One of my friends shoots the Kidd 10/22 carbine and almost stopped before he went to our conversion noted below:

    1.  Use Tandemkross clear double magazine.
    2. Original Ruger orange rotor.
    3. Original Ruger metal feedlips.

    4. Tandemkross green rotor spring.

    5.  Tandemkross tool kit for magazine assembly.  Snug rotor then 2 full revolutions and push nut into next slot.

    6. Volquartsen extractor.  Yep, it’s a factor for reliability.  ALL of us have gone to VQ extractor.

We have found the clear double mag body (not the triple) to fit the receiver much better than the original black 10 round mag.  My TK double clear mags are 100% reliable (*).  We also use only HV ammo in the 10/22 for reliability.

(*) all 10/22 mags require reasonable maintenance.  CCI burns cleaner than Aguila as example.  So there is no magic number of rounds that I go by.  After every practice session and match I will brush off the feedlips and blow out the mags.

The clear mags allow you to see the internal wax ring that WILL build up over time.  Wax will also get on the rotor grooves.  I shoot matches every week and practice once a week (when not on injured reserve list 😩).  I will tear down and clean all internals, including the wax buildup inside the mag body once I see the wax building up.  It’s a pain but necessary (for all mags) if you want reliability.  The Tandemkross tool kit is very useful.

I would recommend buying one TK clear double body and 2 green rotor springs and try it out.  Works for us.

    Good luck.

I've been using this same setup since TK first came out with the DoubleKross mags. I used to wind 1.5 turns but switched to 2 turns a couple of years ago. I live where I can shoot almost every weekend of the year. some weekend 2 matches. I shoot a lot and I have TK mags that are still the original style. These mags run flawlessly in my VQ guns, and last for years. I know that some of my mags are 8+ years old.

There's no way for a random RO on the range to check the "registration" of what any random firearm was originally manufactured as and there is no way I know of to permanently change it for Title 1 firearms.  I asked ATF as an 07/02 FFL to help me determine it in the past for a firearm and got nowhere.

It is also perfectly legal for law-abiding people to convert pistols temporarily into a rifles and back per ATF (although not the other way around).  https://www.atf.gov/firearms/qa/can-i-lawfully-make-pistol-rifle-without-registering-firearm

By the rules a legal SBR with a brace for a stock, or a regular rifle with a brace for a stock would be ok for rimfire rifle as they only say "no braces" for rimfire pistols and PCCs.  Maybe that's an oversight in the rules but it's how they are today.

    6.6 Rimfire Rifle

Open to any rifle shooting .22 Long Rifle ammunition. There are two equipment divisions

you are correct for now about the sbr with a pistol brace being legal, in RFRO and RFRI divisions only.  The rule says "any rifle shooting 22......"That will only last as until the Batf changes their mind again.

ATF has declared braces to be 'stocks', so it would be difficult to object.

not really since the rules specifically state, no arm braces. Put a stock on it and sbr it legally and it can be used under the rules. Since it was legally a pistol when manufactured it must be a reregistered as rifle to be shot in RFRO.

Not that I'm arguing with Zack on this but just wanted to point out that it says "may" start with the safety off (for PCC, and RF).  If you have a process of flicking the safety off on the signal, then you do you.  It's shooter's choice.

On a side-note, not that it would have stood, I had an RO at Area 7 SC in 2021 ready to DQ me for my PCC safety not engaged.  I explained it didn't need to be, he looked at me like I had 2 heads.  The looked at the rest of the RO staff and confirmed.  But then kept looking at me like an alien.  I finally asked him if it would make him more comfortable if I engaged the safety while I was making ready.  He told me it would.  So I engaged the safety, loaded the PCC and flicked it right back off once I was pointing at the flag.  SMH

this is the problem with USPSA  RO's that are not familiar with Steel challenge ROing big matches .  If you don't shoot it why would you try to RO it without experience. The last place a shooter needs RO interference is at larger match.  Put that shoe on the other foot.... would any USPSA shooter want a SCSA only shooter ROing them?

  5. Suppressed PCC's are specifically not allowed by rule. There isn't a no suppressor rule for RFRO or RFRI....at least that I was able to find. The only issue you would have shooting the barrel with the baffles removed would be filling the internal threads with lead spray. It can be difficult to clean it. You would be better off buying a ULW barrel from Wiland or a carbon wrapped barrel from Volquartsen.

Oversight. Even kings make mistakes. ISR and OSR included. I like shooting a revolver.

this makes more sense than the current divisions. Its drag racing so let it be that. The only other option that should be allowed is holster placement should be unlimited in SCSA.

  7. I have owned a Freedom Ordinance, MPX, JP GMR13, GMR15, and a JP5. I have shot many others and there are many fine PCC's out there. BUT... The JP5 blows them all away. It is a game changer. It will be winning all of the PCC categories in SCSA and USPSA.

I've had some informal discussions regarding 8 additional stages that would be based on the current 8. For example SC-111 would be a new version of 5 To Go that clubs with limited width and depth could setup. I've been asked specifically about stages for indoor ranges as well. For the other 7 stages we would design stages using the same plates that we use now on that stage. This would permit clubs to run new stages without having to acquire additional steel.

Retaining your current (highest) classification will always be an option. Selective reclassification is something that each member must opt-in for.

The new stages is a great idea. Allowing clubs with smaller bays to run more stages can't be bad.

That would be correct. There were no SS squads Sunday afternoon the centerfire SS shot Sunday morning. I can't stand when when a computer shooting from low ready does 10-15 swings to the first plate. It's annoying to watch as a computer and even more more annoying as the RO running the timer. You never seem to when when they are going to finally settle down. I once told a competitor after their run that they didn't need to do that because it's mot like the first plate was going to move or anything.

Edit - I read "SC" as SS meaning super squad and not Steel Challenge my bad on that. Still don't like it if you do the 10-15 swings to the first plate.

If the shooter is following the rules, what is it that you can't stand. If the shooter takes 100 swings at the first plate inside of the time limit who cares. Why is it that RO's are bothered by people doing things in a different manner. An RO is not their to judge the shooter on style, just on safety and score. The RO is there to serve the shooters and the match not the other way around.

  10. There is always going to be talking...this isn't golf...  Learn to ignore the chatter and focus on the task at hand. You can't stop the noise of shooting from the other bays on a range so why concern yourself with the talking.

Now if someone is messing with a shooter that is in the process of shooting that is really poor sportsmanship and should be dealt with through the rules.

  11. The green TK rotor and TK feed lips didn't work for me. I went back to the red rotor with the TK spring. Also used the Ruger cast metal feed lips and Set the spring tension to 1 1/2 turns. They work flawlessly for me.

When they get built up with to much lube and start not rotating quickly enough to feed the next round......it's too late ...should have already cleaned them.

I take them apart and clean them in a 4 to 1 solution of of simple green for 5 minutes at 50*C in my ultrasonic cleaner.  I don't clean the bolt or nut in the cleaner. I just wipe and use a little silicone lube on them.

    Hope this helps.

If you ever use Ruger factory mags always reset the spring tension before use. They come set from 1 turn to 3.

The people who can't be bothered to take the USPSA RO class probably won't really take the SC one, either, in my opinion.  They'd have to actually spend time, money, and mental effort learning how to do something.

Your "opinion" is wrong. I don't shoot USPSA so why the hell would I pay to go through a class to RO a sport I don't participate in. I shoot steel Challenge. I and many others have been RO ing it for many years with zero support from USPSA. Why should a shooter that is willing to volunteer their time to RO have to Pay to get certified to officiate a sport?????. The RO doesn't get paid but USPSA is a business making a profit?????   SCSA needs their own RO's class.

Weapon Shield is great stuff. FP10 was the original version but FP10 isn't the same stuff since George (who created it) left. IIRC George started Weapon Shield. According to George it's working even when it looks dry. Very highly recommended for cold weather and hot. And a little goes a long way so their pin point dispenser is worth its inflated price.

Weapon shield is the best gun lube made

  14. Retire the stage. Build a new stage with the same targets, so there is no new targets needed.  Make the stage fit into a 25 yd. deep bay. This will allow many clubs to use another stage. Personally I like outer limits. It is a heck of a challenge. It would be good to give clubs another option. It won't change who the winners are one bit because the same people will still be the fastest.
