Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I moved away 4 years ago but grew up just south of you and certainly miss it. Now looking back I missed a lot of opportunities to get my feet wet in competitive shooting. I was back over the 4th and stopped into the new Centerfire Shooting Sports range, not much of a retail shop but they do have an indoor range and weekly league shooting in different disciplines. It is good to hear the Hillsdale range is up and running, I grew close and I know it was talked about for quite some time. Glad to hear the folks down south finally have a good rifle/ pistol range.
  2. Yeah, I am a little worried about my extension decision. At the time I ordered I was telling a bit from the amount of money I had just spent on the project. My limited experience hurt me as well, i was thinking that 20 rounds marry be easier to build a stage plan around that 22 or 23. In hindsight I should have just spent the money... Nick
  3. After working on my Glock project and reading so much on here about Elites I am more torn than ever. I guess one of my biggest hangups with this Stock is the DA/SA trigger. The Glock is a bit comforting in the fact that the trigger will be the same in every situation, no matter what. I know that I could change to a single action trigger hammer but then I am looking at shooting in limited, correct? If I am going to do that does it make more sense to just trade this gun in for an Elite Match in .40. I would then have my production gun in the Glock and limited gun that I could shoot major with in the Match. What is everyone's take on transitioning between two very different platforms? Is it worth the headache? Thanks, NIck
  4. Thanks for all the input. I forgot to mention in the first post that I added a ZEV uncaptured stainless guiderod with a 13lb ISMI flat spring. I hear you guys on the likely performance increase with a different gun such as a Tanfo or many others. I guess at this point I feel that I am not at a point that a glock or even a Hi-point would be the thing holding me back. I guess I am with 3djedi at this point in my competitive shooting life, a Glock just feels right and anything that will increase my confidence and lessen the nerves is what I want to use right now. As things get more comfortable and my skill level starts to more dictate my equipment the I am sure that an upgrade will be in the works. I don't there is a more BA looking gun in the game right now than an Elite limited or a well massaged CZ. The standard slide stop completely slipped by me. I have had trouble in the past with this on other guns and it will most likely be the same case here as I have fairly long fingers as well. I am running short on time, better get that order placed quickly... As far as the spring situation, I had considered changing the striker spring but it seemed in research that was one of the most risky changes with a stock striker, is this not the case? I do plan to change it someday along with lightening the factory striker but got nervous about changing the spring for this shoot. I guess it should be said that I plan on shooting Federal ammo. Thanks for all the help. Nick
  5. I will definitely will shoot a couple hundred round prior to the shoot. I relay wouldn't need the added stress of a non performing gun. I was being a bit lazy going with limited, I figured since there was probably no chance of me finishing well I might as well be able to start with full mags... Is it possible to switch classes after you are squadded?
  6. Well, after a stint with a Tanfo elite stock I came to realize that I just didn't love the feel of a gun that heavy. It didn't seem that I recognized that extra "controllability" that everyone brags about, of course that may be because it was a 9mm, 40 may have helped to show the advantage. I really preferred the feel of a long gone G17 that I get rid of because I would not let myself be a Glock fan. Well those days are over. I decided that I was finally going to nut up and shoot my first match (area 3 championship match in early August) and I needed to go back to a Glock to feel comfortable. Found a good deal on a 34 and originally planned to shoot production but I figured for my first experience I might as well register as limited minor for two reasons; 1. didn't want to chance a illegal modification and not be able to fix it there and 2. with no previous experience the strategy with 10 rounds per mag may be over my head. Anyway , here it is: Sevigny all black sights, I may end up adding a FO front but in the past I have tried them and found that instead of just seeing the front sight I was focusing to hard on that bright dot. Ghost ultimate connector, extra power trigger spring, reduced power safety plunger spring, and polished everything possible, Glockmeister aluminum magwell and 4 mags with Arredondo +3's. Hopefully this will a couple extra standard 17 rounders with get me through any possible emergencies. This was a blast, being able to do everything myself really adds to my confidence in the gun. Let me know what you think and if you have any guidance as to additional work before the shoot. Thanks, Nick
  7. I have decided to sell my Stock 1, it seems I just don't shoot anything as well as I do a Glock, I never thought I would say that... It is a 2 year old Stock 1 in 9mm, it has a trigger. Everything is at it came from the factory with the exception of a fiber optic front sight and an upgraded trigger group from EAA. Unlike the picture on the website this pistol has the bomar type adjustable sight, it did come this way new. Gun is in approximately 90-95% condition. Along with the gun I have a complete Limited slide assembly in 9mm as well with a FO front sight, 5 magazines with aluminum base pads, the case, original paper work, and stock trigger group. I suppose while I am at it the 4 Safariland 771 mag pouches (no belt loops, only ELS attachments), and Bladetech DOH might as well go to. Pricing the gun would be no problem but I am having trouble finding guidance on the upper, extra mags, and accessories. Let me know what you think. Hopefully enough to cover the Glock and upgrades I have bought... Thanks all, Nick
  8. Hello all, I have lurking around this site for a longtime because of the wealth of information available. I plan on shooting my first USPSA match in a few weeks at the area 3 championships in Grand Island, excited but quite nervous. A long time shooting, hunter, and reloader that has always put off shooting a match because of those nerves. I am about 3 hours northeast of Denver so hopefully I can start making it to some of the northern CO matches. Thanks for the all of the info and I look forward to meeting some of you out there on the range someday. Nick Evans
  9. Thanks guys. I appreciate the help and have no doubt that this will be an absolute blast. I wish I could make it this Sunday, a warmup would be helpful. Unfortunately grand island is close to 4 hours and making another long trip isn't in the cards right now. Thanks again and I hope to see you there! Nick Evans
  10. This is a random question but, and from a new guy at that... I have been wanting to shoot a match for several years but just never could make it happen. I decided when I saw this that it would be the one and that I WAS going to be there but now that I have registered I am beginning to think that a much smaller shoot would have probably been a much better idea. Lots of range experience so I am comfortable from a safety standpoint but is this a match that a first timer can shoot and not be in the way or completely lost if he doesn't know the usual order of things? I would like to shoot on Friday but what is the next step in making sure I get squaded for that day? Registered to shoot in Limited minor as I didn't want the extra reloads or to get caught last minute with a modification not legal in production. Other than that I guess the 34 is tuned up and ready, me, not so sure. Thanks for any feedback. Nick
  11. I ordered some new K9 mags with aluminum base pads from EAA and when they came in there was a K10 with base plate in the box. This is a black follower Mec-Gar mag, it has two marks on the shoulder of the mag because I did put in my gun a few times before I realized what it was. I have two new guns: STI Spartan V 9mm, and the Elite Stock 9mm that need mag pouches, parts, etc. so if you have anything sitting around you might want to swap let me know. Thanks, Nick
  12. Is the trigger itself on a new stock adjustable. I see nothing for screws but in another post it was mentioned that the pre-travel may be over adjusted causing reset issues. If there is something that I am missing are there any pictures available? Thanks, Nick
  13. Now that you mention it, i don't a screw anywhere on the trigger? Nick
  14. Thanks for the suggestion. I wish that were case but given the fact that it would reset for about half the rounds in the mag and when it did it was very slow i think i beat that spring up pretty bad. Really like the gun though! Nick
  15. I picked up my new Elite Stock 9mm 2 weeks ago and finally got out tonight to shoot it. I picked up a Limited Pro upper assembly as well just in case the bull barrel caused me any issues with shooting any specific classes... I really want to start shooting some informal matches and thought this would be the gun to do it with. When I first picked the gun up I was a bit underwhelmed with the trigger and researched for hours exactly what parts I needed to remedy the issue. Turns out a good polish on the internals was all I needed. I am sure that will change as I become more familiar with the gun but at this point I am very happy. Though while I was inside I managed to tweak the trigger spring putting it in wrong and now I am having reset issues... the good news about this was that I had it together and apart so many times that when the new spring arrives I will be a pro. I see a few Colorado guys on here, I would like to make it down to the steel challenge match at Weld County the first weekend of April. Is anyone familiar with the range and what the comfort level will be for someone fairly green? Thanks, Nick
