  1. I went though this a couple of months ago... I bought one of the Blade-tech DOH holsters. It's a nice basic holster and it's so popular it has it's own "aftermarket" products like the BOSS holster hanger. :D

I like that there are no tricks, locks or levers, the gun secure and protected. It's also pretty flexible - limited or 3 gun...and I guess if you take the DOH piece out you can use it for IDPA - at least I read that you could. I can never figure out the IDPA rules! :surprise::roflol:

  2. Lots of options, only you will know what's "right".

    If it was my money

    EGW ignition parts are popular

    Dawson ICE magwell

If you get a trigger you like and the gun reloads easy...you're halfway home.

Don't forget quality Magazines. I carry Chip McCormick 10 rounders in my duty gun...don't know if they are legal in SS?

Then spend the time to make sure the gun runs 100%. All the trick stuff in the world is worthless if the gun doesn't run. ;)

  3. What ever the main spring is... I'm leaving it alone for now. ;)

I'm running small rifle primers, since I've got close to 10k of them from my days running 9x21 in open... I ran a test batch and the dents in the primers look strong.

I wil give 10 lb recoil spring a go at some point but...

Gun seems to have settled in and is running better and better! :D

  4. Chutist, some of these guys ordering directly from STI are sponsored by folks that allow their shooters to do so at dealer cost, which means a SIGNIFICANT discount.. I know thats the case for at least one of the fellers posting here.. :)

BTW, got one of the Limiteds in 9mm for my daughter and it is an extremely nice gun. To call it "production" is way off. I have held some of the "custom" guns mentioned here and the fit and finish and trigger is nowhere near as good as this DVC.. Added and Aftec (probably didnt need to) and it runs like a top. Factory ammo, reloads, any OAL, it doesn't care..

Ahh well then, I guess that's a good problem to have! LOL!!! :D When I was "doing well" shooting every weekend back in the 90's you were lucky to get a discount on some reloading supplies! ;)

  5. A YEAR!? That's for YOU to get a new production slot, start watching gun broker and you'll have one within the month. ;) There are lots of DVC's on order at dealers that are not spoken for... I find it funny that there are guys on here STILL posting about waiting for there DVC Limited. Once I decided to go that way I had one in a week off Gun-broker. EDIT:Right now there are 2 .40 DVC Limiteds, 1 9mm Limited and 2 Open's in .38 Super...

As far as "full custom" - CK/Freedom and some of the other guys have guns available in pretty short order. I've seen Freedom posts on their Facebook page in the past few weeks for guns that were available NOW.

If you're looking for an SVI "trophy" gun that may take a year. If you're looking for a reliable match ready gun? Those are readily available. ;)

  6. This is the one round I do not reload for, how many rounds are you guys going through?

That was my thought... I reload for everything.... but .380

I've reloaded maybe 1000 rounds of .380, still have about 400 rounds left to be used at my leisure.

I generally will run 1K-2K thru any gun I plan to carry before I feel comfortable with it (so reloading allowed me to do this at a reasonable cost).

I had a bunch of .380 set aside, most of which I came across while loading or sorting 9mm.

I've probably got a few thousand pieces of .380 brass kicking around. Plus I had a spare set of 9mm dies/powder funnel/tools head/powder dispenser... plus a .223 conversion for my press... all I purchased was a .380 sizing die and case gauge. I've since migrated .380 reloading to my 650... and all I needed was a plastic case feeder part :)

Don't plan to shoot a ton, but it's nice to be able to roll my own for $6 for 50 rounds, compared to $20+ for factory.

    ~g

$20 is pretty stiff, I get .380 at WalMart for $14 "ish" per 50 all the time. ;) I carry a .380 everyday but I can't imagine putting more than a box though any of them for "function" Check. ;) My 42 included...

  7. I've had some nasty failures to feed in my last batch where the round "stuck" on the ring the stock Dillon die left on once fired .40 fired from Glock 22's. This caused me to research the sizing options and also examine my own set up. I found LOTS of folks using the EGW U die.

I also found I was able to get my Stock Dillon die down a bit more and I tightened my shell plate a bit. I got better alignment when the case entered the die and that MAY have been my issue. I could also see the difference in that the case was sized farther down and no cases with the ring.

100 round test (all Glock fired) gave me NO cases that stuck. I still may get a "U" die but I'm good to go for now.

It just reaffirmed that the little details add up. ;)

  8. Thanks for the link! :D

It was interesting to see how "fast" the Blue Bullets were. If you was using one of the "expensive" powders the savings could add up over time.

I was surprised that the plated bullets were "slower". I expected them to be faster than the FMJ's but slower than just Lead with lube. ;)

  9. I think you're on the right track there with Springs in the DVC. I think the 12# progressive I have in the gun is a touch heavy still. I'm hoping mine will eat the shorter OAL ammo as I get broken in and the optimum recoil spring. I have a Glock 35 too and it would be nice to have one load that would work in both ;)

  10. I called STI last week to ask about OAL and the guy on the phone cited "SAMMI Spec". No comment on 1.180, when I asked about that he just said "SAMMI SPEC max OAL for .40 is 1.135".

So I moved on to springs and he said "16 pound recoil spring and 19 pound main spring. " :excl: FWIW - I could hear him digging though papers looking for the answer to the questions. It wasn't real confidence inspiring... :surprise:

I've read lots of posts here that said "STI RECOMMENDS 1.180 OAL" - I was surprised the guy was nothing but SAMMI spec in his replies. ;)

I've got 5K small Rifle primers that I'm going to be using for reloading, so I'll be staying with the stock main spring (what ever it is.... ) for now. :D

You could try the the 17? I wouldn't "test" at a match but you could swap it for a range day and see how it goes?

  11. There are a lot of us here loading for 2011 platforms so just reading the threads I can see how one might think 1.135 was min OAL. Actually the SAMMI spec is OAL of 1.085 to 1.135 OAL.

Daft - I don't know what you're using for a press or dies but many here use the EGW U die with good success, rather than add the extra step of push thru sizing. Also make sure you have your current die going down as far as possible. A couple of "turns" down on the sizing die makes a big difference. ;) Also rather than pulling bullets and checking for damage for determining "crimp". You could use the measured bullet diameter plus 2 times the case wall thickness, should be close. :D

  12. COK - I just went though this process a couple of months back. The Edge is "ok" but... the DVC (or CK Thunder) is really where you want to be.

My DVC was just under $2500 new shipped to my FFL with 2 140mm mags. If you're going to shoot USPSA the DVC or one of the CK Arms guns is the way to go. ;)

I've had to do some reload tuning (1.180 OAL) and minor gun tuning (polish extractor, 12lb recoil spring) to get my DVC 100%. I think the CK would be 100% out of the box.

For me the "extra's" on the DVC - Hard Chrome, tool-less guide rod and 2 mags were just the ticket. I really struggled with the choice and I'm sure I'd have been happy with the CK as well.

  13. So is n320 pretty much the go to first choice for reloading 40 for major. Have heard many people recommend it.

Part of what is "best" is going to be what you can FIND. ;)

From what I've gathered there are quite a few powders that will work:

    Titegroup

    WST

    N320

    e3

    Ramshot

Apparently not for the faint of heart but -> Clays
