  1. I just installed one of the Velocity 3lb single stages in my Sig. "Best" is subjective, but it is what's advertised - clean crisp 3 lb trigger that is an easy "drop in" replacement. The owners background is impressive and I'd put that trigger up against anything out there at that pull weight. Oh, and the price is right too, which doesn't hurt. :D

  2. So how do you see yourself using these three presses as times goes by? Would you designate one or more of them for a specific cartridge and use the other one or two for a variety of cartridges?

I had to temporarily dismount one of my 550's to set up the SDB, but I have the presses attached to plywood bases that all have the same hole spacing. Then the plywood bases get bolted to the bench. It's not exactly "modular", but it's close enough.

The plan for now is the 1050 will stay set up for 9mm and the 650 for .40. The future of the 550 is uncertain at this point... Maybe .45 ;)

Those egw dies seem good. I had 1 failure out of 2000 rounds on my first batch using it this weekend. Much better than last time where several didn't gauge.

I'm hopeful it solves the sizing issue. :D

  3. So when I stopped by the factory last week I got a chance to play with a 650 while I was dropping off my 550 for overhaul and the Zerk upgrade...

I was practicing yesterday and had a couple of rounds stick... Glocked brass, very plain to see. I had a pretty high "failure" rate drop checking before the last match and this was the last straw... Time for an EGW U die, ordered last night. They told me it would be 4 weeks for the 550 work... Man I can't wait 4 weeks to see if this die works!? ;) Guess I need a PRESS... you know just so I can test the die! LOL!!! :D

When home at lunch...650XL with all the trimmings ordered from Brian. 5 minutes later I have an email from BE himself thanking me and that the order is already at Dillon. Gotta like that kind of customer service from our host. :D

Powder and Primers on the way, new press on the way, new Dies on the way! It's going to be a FUN reloading weekend! :D

oh... maybe I need a bullet feeder too!?

  4. I've been watching gunbot and all the supply sites watching so I thought I'd pass this along. ;)

    Cabela's has 14oz Clay's in stock:

    http://www.cabelas.com/product/hodgdon-174-smokeless-powder/741161.uts

Also S&B Primers are on sale for 19.99 a thousand.

26FLAT gets you $5 shipping on orders over $99

$20 hazmat too right? Or are they waiving that too?

yep $20 hazmat, which is the cheapest I know of. ;)

I think PV is a bit less for the powder when they have it but with the shipping discount and the lower hazmat. It seems like a good deal. ;)

Plus... I was down to a pound of Titegroup and NEEDED powder. :D

So for $300 bucks I got 8 cans of powder and 5K primers - Shipped. :D

  5. Love my 550 but 100 rounds in 5 mins? Sorry i gotta throw the "BS" flag on that... Maybe one time for a bet, but not regular "production". ;) More like 300 rounds an hour.

I have a 1050... The case feeder is a big time saver. Auto indexing helps too. I ran a 650 in the Dillon show room, I'd guess the 650 will be VERY close to the production 1050. The only reason it would be any slower is the time it takes to push "up" to seat the primer.

Only having ONE job for each hand on the 650 makes loading simpler, faster... Left hand sets bullets, right hand pulls the handle. :D

  6. Dropped the 550 off. $67 for the rebuild and shipping. Added the Zerk fitting upgrade - $39. Figured while it was there I might as well go big! :D

Got to play with a 650 for the first time, pretty cool! :goof:

Turn around time on the rebuild was quoted as 4 weeks... Hopefully it's not that long! ;)

Did the tour - gotta admit, seemed smaller than I would have thought. But Aero was off limits and the support guys are all up stairs. Interesting none the less.

  7. Getting ready to load up my first batch of rounds on the new press. Im thinking of starting with 4.6 grains of titegroup at 1.18 with a acme 180 coated bullet. Having never loaded pistol before I'm hoping this will be a good starting point.

If it's a "2011" that should be pretty good. That's close to my load with Plated, you might drop it a couple of tens with the coated and work up if needed. ;)

  8. I've got an RL1050 as well. Just want to give the "old girl" some love. :goof:

I'll try to call Monday and ask about an RMA. I figure I'm going to drop it off and let them ship it back. ;)

...upgrades? I've though about another 1050 but I'd buy if from Brian with his "cash" deal. Save sales tax in Az and a little more... ;)

Hey a fresh from the factory 550B with a shipping box ready to go

I'd like to get a tour while I'm there but I don't know if they even do that.... Oh how far off the 10 is it to the Factory?

  9. Sorting pistol brass by headstamp for action pistol games seems like a completely unnecessary step. I'd bet lunch that at the ranges we shoot at there is no measureable difference in accuracy. I'd have to see DATA to believe other wise. ;)

Chutist, I do not have any data on that of my own because I've been loading for as-accurate-as-possible since before I was loading for action pistol. And I do all my load development with my own Starline brass. This is not a secret, though, for people in disciplines shooting at 50 yards. Sorting by headstamp and case length is a common practice. How a bullet's precision degrades between 25 and 50 is certainly more dramatic than between 7 and 25 -- I promise you I get that -- but until I never miss an A or a plate at 25, I'll take the extra half inch to inch of precision. ;)

That said, I am curious enough to test this out, and I will run some mixed brass tests off of a Ransom. I'll let you know. If you'd be interested in someone else's data, I offer the following article I stumbled upon last year:

    Secrets of reloading 9mm

I'd be interested in the results. :D

For big match in the past - I'd use new brass so it would be all the same.

That said, the most accurate gun I own is a EGW built Para in .45 and it will shoot tight groups at 50 yards with random range brass reloads!

my gut... no data to back it up, but my gut says consistent OAL and powder drop...running the press "smoothly" and consistency is more significant than brass head stamp. But data would confirm it either way ;)
