Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Could Alliant Sport Pistol be a new & better Titegroup?
  2. I have a Dillon SDB and have loaded many thousands of 9mm/45ACP/357Mag/380ACP rounds with it, but now I am wanting to be able to add rifle reloading--mainly 308, 7.62x54R and 223/5.56. I do shoot some Steel Challenge and may add-on IDPA soon, but my round count is probably on the low side as compared to many here. I am leaning heavily towards the RL550 as a replacement to my SDB, but unsure how the 550 is advertised as having a faster round production number per hour when the shellplate is manually indexed. It seems the SDB might actually be faster than a 550 without the case feeder since the SDB is auto indexing. So, my main question is: is a baseline RL550C really 'faster' than a SDB? Sure, I could get the 550's case feeder, but then I might as well just get the XL650. Since that is significantly more, and I am not sure I need the advantages, I am looking at the 550 without the case feeder. Any feedback appreciated!
  3. Been here for a little while and then found this forum--I am a little remiss in intro'ing myself. When I joined this forum, I'd just gotten into Steel Challenge shooting at Nellis AFB NV and enjoyed that for a few months. I shot single stack division with a STI Trojan in 45ACP and production division with a Glock 34. I won my last match with the 1911 but cannot (yet) hit the broad side of a barn with the G34. I am trying to learn to love the Glock, but struggling a bit. Price, reliability and accessories are compelling. but they are just ugly, fat guns with a meh trigger (to me). Starting last May, I deployed with the USAF to the great, stinky ME part of the world where I will be until next summer. After that, who knows where, but probably my last assignment as I will have been in for 26 years by that point, so almost time to hang up the spurs. I bought a Glock style SIRT and had planned to dry fire practice for the year I was gone, getting used to the Glock trigger pull. The box containing the SIRT was sent back to my house twice with "GUN" stickers on the outside, so no dry-fire practice for me; I cannot get it shipped here. A year off shooting (I hope), damn it. If I am shooting over here, it's all bad, and probably with a dinky M9, which I dislike even more than a Glock (but still qual'd Exc every time). My other hobbies are High Powered Rocketry (Lvl 3), Reloading and Road Cycling. I love 1911s and want to also try PCC competition when I get home as well, still trying to decide on what platform (AR 9mm or CZ EVO Carbine). I bought a JoeBob Spartan 9mm AR lower, but debating whether to build it up or just buy the EVO Carbine and be done with it. Thoughts?
  4. Is there a dominant PCC platform or common carbines seen in competition so far? Contemplating PCC and looking at a Scorpion EVO Carbine or a Spartan AR-9 setup. Anything else to really consider?
  5. Went AR trigger shopping myself recently, considered all the common brand names and in the end got the Hiperfire ECL. I'll update here after firing it a few hundred rounds.
  6. Struggled with the same thing recently. First powder I found was Universal, and the best load worked out to nearly 200 PF with Blue Bullets 200gr SWCs. So, I've been trying different powder/bullet combos looking for something that's accurate and 170-ish PF. So far, Ramshot True Blue and coated Missouri Bullet 155gr SWC's are working out well, but just over 9gr charge, so not economical. I'll try Titegroup or Ramshot Competition or Zip next (assuming I can find them).
  7. Bought a Compact Sig P320 recently and took it with only 75 rounds through it to a Steel Challenge. It shot the match perfectly, definitely quicker for me than a DA/SA gun like my CZ75B. Afterwards, there was an unofficial "Long Shot" fun shoot to see who could hit a 12-oz plastic water bottle, at night with minimal illumination, from 55-ish yards away, in one shot. The P320s first shot hit it. Bone stock, not even broke in. I would say the gun is more accurate than me most of the time and I love the trigger. I don't own a Glock, so no comparo there.
