  1. I have a Leupold VX3 2.5-8. Used it for a year or so before I found out that the Leupold folks will put custom BDC marks in the scope for less than $100. I'm still using it on my open gun. Just send in your bullet weight, velocity, and BC and they'll add hold overs. My Vortex 1-6 can't be beat for tactical but I like my Leupold for open, lighter and with the Docter 45 degree dot, I'm good.
  2. Scroll down to the Multi Gun Section and post your question in the Shotgun Technical forum.
  3. I sent an email to the club. They replied that the match is on and they still need me as an RO... Hopefully more info will be available soon.
  4. Well that was quick! Confirmation email received! Thanks Denise, Can't wait...
  5. Interesting... Wouldn't "Bill's Gun Works Model M3000 s/n ABC123" be an American made shotgun and 922r exempt?
  6. My buddy Kenny told me about a case at the Nationals in early 90's, One of the big dogs broke the scope on his open gun. Wanted to switch to his limited gun for the rest of the match. The MD looked at the remaining stages and decided since they were primarily up close and personal, the limited gun would be a competative advantage and the swap was not allowed. Don't remember how his problem was resolved but obviously, just because a gun fits the division (ALL guns are open!), the MD may not let you switch.
  7. I've seen a few with a racker dovetailed in infront of the ejection port. Not an ideal solution...
  8. They just went in stock! Y'all better order quick!
  9. The paperclip idea only works for a 1911. I've found instead of a paperclip, take a 1/2" heavy duty staple like we staple targets up with, cut it in half with dikes. Now you have two L shaped recoil spring retainers! When you pull the slide back, place the retainer (the cut end of the staple) into the take down hole in the guide rod, then the recoil spring plug or reverse plug as the case may be, the recoil spring, and the guide rod may be removed and replaced as a unit. This may work for other platforms, but I'm only familiar with the 1911.
  10. Has anyone tried Ed's Red bore cleaner and lube? http://www.handloads.com/articles/?id=9 I used it exclusively when I was hot into Sporting clays and trap. The acetone really does a number on plastic wad residue and there was enough residue left that extra lubrication was not usually required.
  11. I have 9x21 brass that I've shot and reloaded goodness only knows how many times. Some of it is down to about 9mm length and is still going strong. That's at least 2mm short of the forcing cone. I have never owned a Glock so I don't know from "controlled feeding", but my STI certainly works.
  12. A fluted barrel is stiffer than an unfluted barrel OF THE SAME WEIGHT. It can not be stiffer than the original barrel before metal was removed.
  13. +1 and Alex does support the sport. Each and every RO at the STI Texas Multigun Championship received one.
  14. Weeelll... I can only speak for our RO squad but on Stage 1, with only 6 rounds in the stage gun we couldn't engage all the steel if we wanted to. I fired two shots, safed it and dropped it. The stage briefing we had did not specify that the steel had to be engaged with a shotgun (I did just because I wanted to) and some used their pistol so it's only right the stage was to be thrown out. The dark house stage definitely had fault lines and we obeyed them! Stage 12 was sucking hard with the wind rocking the barricade but Sheldon had just shot it (we watched) and we shot it as he did moving from one notch to another after each hit. I didn't even look at the long range stage during the match, our squad shot it the week before. There were 6 fast targets at 100 yards to be engaged from the box, offhand, 2 plates and a fast target at 300 and again at 400, and two plates at 500. We probably did have an advantage as while the wind was 15 to 20 gusting 30, it was primarily blowing into our face, not requiring much if any windage. We were on Stage 5 and the only controversy was from shooters not realizing no hits on the paper was 2 misses, even if you were shooting heavy, and one shooter that didn't bother to walk down to see his penalties (he got a reshoot). I really have no complaints about anything, the competitors were great, some greater than others (it was amazing watching Nils mow down the steel with his iron sighted pistol!), everyone was safe, we didn't have to speak harshly much less DQ anyone. STI is the greatest and they surely out did them selves supporting the sport this time! Bill Bill
  15. Just use a short section of paracord and make your own.
  16. Kelly, How did your range session with the Nikon rings turn out? I'd really like to give Pepr mount advice... but I've never even SEEN one. I've always used Larue mounts, having been an RO at the Larue Multigun matches I have several of their mounts. Bill
  17. Lots of trigger topics on here... http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=177704 I too, like my AR Gold.
  18. Yeah, I really like my new Vortex. Give Omar at Southern Guns a call, you can get two Vortexes for the price of a Swaro. They're great to deal with. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showforum=280
  19. Browning put a "tuning" weight on some of their rifle barrels. Maximum accuracy is achieved when the bullet exits the muzzle at the top or bottom of its arc when the muzzle is stopped or nearly stopped. The weight was screwed in or out change the period of the barrel vibration. I'm sure there are other factors that could effect poi. 22lr is especially sensitive to the amount and consistancy of priming compound (since the ratio of primer to powder is much bigger in a 22). A big part of being a match ammo is getting that consistancy. Personally, I'm just happy when I can hit a rabbit at 50 yards with my 22!
  20. As I understand it, rifle barrels especially free floated barrels, viberate when fired. The most accurate and forgiving barrels viberate in a straight line up and down. But some viberate in a circular motion, thusly when bullets exit the muzzle at different velocities, they exit at a different spot in the circular pattern. So bullets loaded to different velocities shoot to different spots.
  21. Mine also came in today. When I ordered it last Thursday, Casey said it would be number 8 boxed to go out Friday... Of the 10 they had received that day!
  22. Well, Midway was sold out already, but Able still has some. I sure wish Able was not in Texas so I wouldn't have to pay taxes as well as shipping!
  23. Well, I shot open so I had 12 rounds in my Benelli. I never once reloaded any shot shells on the timer... There were a few stages where if I had elected to take optional steel targets with shotgun, I would have been reloading. The stage timeout is 100 seconds this year, plenty of time to hit all the targets but not time for lots of make up shots. Some of the steel is at 25 to 30 yards so if you elect shotgun on them you either need buck or lots of choke or you'll be firing multiple shots at the same steel!
  24. I use the longest double rifle case Americase makes. If I remove the extended endcap and spring from my M1, It will JUST fit along with my AR. I could probably sneak my STI in too but I haven't tried. They support 3gun matches (I picked this one up of the table at Texas Multigun).
