Wow, "owtlaw", your local matches must be off the hook!!! Please post video!!!

    Especially looking forward to seeing:

    1. A two gun match with 8 stages completely supported by your state government.

    2. match props to include MRAPS (2) hosted by the local PD and a State Police cruiser.

    3. Food vendor on site for the duration of the match.

    4. Free energy drinks from a major manufacturer.

    5. Vendor displays.

    6. Side matches with prizes including one run by your state's Fish and Game bureau.

    7. Machine Gun rentals from a major Class III retailer in the area.

    8. A speech by the actual Governor of your state expressing how much sport shooting is revered in your state.

    9. A prize table exceeding $100K of products by major manufacturers.

Lookin' forward to those videos, "owtlaw".

    Eric,

There is really no good defense for this match.  The title sponsor is unhappy, the governors office is unhappy, and the majority of the shooters were unhappy.

You may not agree with the tone of "owtlaw" s post but not a single one of his statements is false.

Calling those who were dissatisfied out and pointing fingers will only cause more negative attention to be directed at CD and I can only imagine they would like this to die as quickly as possible.

  2. Another item to consider is the increased complexity of the manual of arms of the 1911/2011 platform.

Although I have an incredible amount of time running 2011 GunStockPhotos I am very comfortable with them, I opted to stay with a striker fired platform when our agency decided to allow 1911's. when I honestly looked at all the things we may have to do while having a gun in hand I liked the idea of having a weapon system that allowed me more operational room in my thought process for all the extra situational bullshit when guns come out of holsters.

  3. two different ways to accomplish it, one is a part that slips into the existing "normal" buttstock, and replaces the original recoil pad, and the other is one that replaces the entire "normal" buttstock with a different type that compresses.

the confusion comes from the fact that both are referred to as the "kick off" option. The one I have replaces the entire "normal" original buttstock assembly. If you really like the grippy texture of the original stock and don't think you could ever live without it, then opt for the option that slips into the original buttstock, because the replacement one that is required with the other option is a textured rubberized skin in the area where the grippy stuff would be located.

Personally I've never seen the need for a extra grippy surface on the pistol grip area of a shotgun, fore end sure but not the pistol grip trigger area. So I had no issues with the change in surface.

Beretta it seems has issues with selling the item directly to end users (us), but you can order it from,....................................................................................................wait for it,.....................................Brownells. if you give me a couple days or pm me I can provide you with the Beretta part# for the option I have, also it seems some of thier reps are giving out false info on the KO/1301's ability to interface properly, all I know is the one I have and Bennie Cooley has, fits and works!!!

    Trapr

Great timing on the post. I literally just got off the phone with the Beretta folks who told me the only way was to replace the entire stock. Apparently not so much. Thanks!

Edited to add. Looks like Brownells has two KOs. One smaller and more expensive, the other larger and less expensive. I'm with you on grippy pistol grip areas. Don't really see the need.

So which of the three available KO parts from Brownells would be the correct one for the 1301......any insight????

  4. Yeah I'm not against rule clarification and I don't do anything to be mean. An RO's job is NOT customer service. It's to safely and effectively run stages by following the rules. I will answer people, but why should I spend half my day and all my patients giving individual stage info to people that were too busy yapping to listen to the walk through? Especially if it's something we cover explicitly, 3 times in that talk?

That's the difference in a good RO and a great RO. You can run a safe stage and enforce the rules at the same time as providing good service to the competitors. You're being compensated, most times fairly well, to help run the match. Part of that is to be friendly and answer questions.

It's their 5 mins and it's there time to make ready, it doesn't matter if they ask you the same question 25 times you answer it. Don't be a dick.

I read each rule set before a match but when you shoot two to three majors in the same month it gets really confusing at times. I've also had ROs/RMs confused by their own rule set that don't even know the rules. I watched one group try to figure out if a hot, loaded and chambered pistol that fell out of a holster while the shooter was running and pointed up range was a DQ. The same match an RO came up to me at the safe area and told me I could be DQ'd for having a mag on my belt. He showed me which one by grabbing it and tugging it. I told him I was safe but he had just handled my ammo and could be DQ'd himself. It was obvious he had not read the rules for that match.

Everyone should read and be familiar but with so many small variances between all the matches it's likely people will make mistakes. Just help them and move on.

These two are spot on (nobody tell Chuck that I agree with him).

While I agree that ultimately it is the shooters responsibility to read the posted match rules, we can only wish it was that simple. Let's not forget the matches that change rules a week/day before or during a match, or the number of RO's who at times don't know the rules or may confuse one ruleset with another. Multiply times 3, 4, 5 or 6 majors a year and its actually pretty damn easy to make mistakes.

  5. Somebody should tell Daniel, Kurt, Keith, Kalani, Jerry, Kelly, Clint, etc etc that there guns are too long and slow.

If you want to build a short gun by all means build one. But to be honest there is very little gain that can be shown on the clock. If you are just starting out your money and time will be much better spent on ..................

    everyone say it with me

    PRACTICE!

  6. I cant explain why, but some of the early mags just refuse to work reliably

The current MKA mags seem to be quite a bit better

If the mag has a notch in the rear spine, at the bottom, its an early mag

The new mags also have a plastic bolt lock

    Jim

When Yancy and I compared factory mags at SMM3G I think we found at least three, maybe even four, different versions between us :)

I don't think this is appropriate subject matter to be sharing on BE, maybe you two should get a room and keep it to yourselves :roflol:

  7. Take a look at the European IPSC shotgun guys... many of them have 15 to 20 round box mags that run pretty darn well. If they can do it, I'm sure we can too.

Those mags are not allowed on IPSC matches anymore due to new rule change beginning of 2012. ;)

IPSC open division has new rule which allows 14 rounds on tube fed and 10 rounds on box fed guns.

Before the rule change mag capacity was not limited.

Yeah, I knew about the rule change, but my point was that the technology/knowedge for producing the higher capacity 12-20rd shotgun mags is already out there and can be adapted for what we need.

The technology is no secret and manufacturing is not really the challenge either. The $$$$$$ to put the mag into production is the major hurdle. In particular to the 1919 the receiver will not allow for the increased size a polymer magazine which is slightly cheaper and the startup money for metal magazines is prohibitive for the little guy who builds in our sport. There just really aren't that many idiots out there like us who want to pay a couple weeks pay for a set of mags :D

  8. Craig,

I'm the first person to say that all competitive shooting is good no matter what, USPSA, IDPA, ICORE, Hi-power, trap, skeet you name it, to each his own, live and let live. I've never said 3GN is bad or wrong or whatever. Sure I'm a little put out when they are delaying awards at a match where I want to get my prize and get on the road for my 14 hour drive home but hey, what are you going to do. Before 3GN we had Dan at SMM3G.

I didn't make the comment to demean 3GN or the guys shooting it, it was a flippant comment about how TV shows seem to take, whatever the subject matter, down to the lowest common denominator to make it easy for the non-(insert fan here) to understand and nothing more. It wasn't a shot at the idea of the 3GN form of shooting or the guys who are going the make the series. Hell, I'm a bit jealous, if I had an invite and the time I'd be there too.

How about I buy you a beer next week and we'll call it good?

    Todd

    Todd,

We're good , just to clarify my rant wasn't personal against you and it wasn't my intention to twist your statement in any way...it was simply representative and available at the time.

  9. The dumb move seems to be playing the critic who throws rocks from the stands at the guys playing the game. :angry2:

I just made a small comment, forgive me for upsetting some folks sensibilities :sight:

Todd, maybe it's been more of the collective criticizing of almost everything 3GN has done. Yes there have been some bumps along the way but in two years they have taken the sport from fighting for range time to being put on a national television network and having an a huge increase in the number of sponsors gathering to support the events (all events not just 3GN). First it was the awards being delayed for shootoffs, or the matches were being too influenced by 3GN presence.....now that they start their own series they're apparently doing that wrong too.

They've have put forth an incredible effort to increase participation in the sport and be all inclusive from the ground floor local matches to the Pro Series. They have created a level of exposure that was only dreamt of when I started the sport. They have solicited any and all advice from many of the sports best and most experienced shooters and match directors. It would be silly to think they can make everyone happy or never make an unpopular decision but on the whole the positives dwarf the negatives.

My hat is off to the effort and commitment 3GN has shown to this sport, after all, they have asked nothing from shooters other than they show up and do what they love....compete. All the while, working their asses to hopefully make it better and show it off to more and more people.

  10. ....

That decision where to zero is a real killer, you would have to be smart enough to use a ballistic calculator and everything!

I don't know how to do this but someone once told me that if you run a 200yd zero you never have to leave a 10" plate to hit it all the way to 400yds! and if you run a 300 yd zero that stretches to 450!!! all without holding anywhere other than the center of the plate!!!!!!! even more amazing huh?

Like I said I'm just a dummy, but it seems like a few purty smart fellers only shoot 55gr bullets already....but then again one of them is Kurt Miller so he must be a dummy too.

Bottom line you can think this is "dumbing down" all you want. I'll bet $100 to a donut that the stage design, varying stage strategy, positional difficulty and most importantly level of competition will keep this endeavor plenty "smart".

The dumb move seems to be playing the critic who throws rocks from the stands at the guys playing the game. :angry2:

What super bullet / load are you using? 200 yd zero with 55 gr bullet has 18" drop at 400 yards. If you put the cross hair anywhere on that 10" plate, you'll get a miss.

Admit it, shooting 4 MOA at 100 yards is easier (dumbed down) than 4 MOA at 400 yards.

It's actually a Super Duper load....(note the extreme sarcasm, it was present in the above quoted statement as well)

Admit it, people love to critique that which they can't do........or show up and kick the top 64's collective asses on these "dumbed down" stages and fully legitimize your opinions ;)
