Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I am still just an amatuer, a newb, etc but when I first started I thought I had to have close to a perfect sight picture. I had never tried to really shoot fast and when I did I was still slow cause I had to make sure my sights were lined up like I was always taught. After reading here and a couple books I found out that is doesn't need to be perfect and was advised to experiment at different distances how much I could get by with. Enos' book touched on that and then Ben Stoeger's book had Skills and Drills had a great description of seeing an outline of the gun on the target @ 3yds, the front sight on the target @ 5 yds, the front sight somewhere within the notch @ 7yds or maybe 10, can't remember, and a better alignment @ 15 yds with 15 being the transition zone between target focus and from there on out front sight focus for more precise aiming. Those realizations really helped me move past perfect, especially once I went out and proved to myself that hits are possible even when things aren't lined up. You may be there already and still trying to get more speed but that was a big hurdle for me. Now I feel like I can make more progress on speed with tips on tight grips, recoil control, etc.
  2. One of the most helpful things I learned was that sight alignment isn't that important. I always tried to have perfect sight alignment when I started then I found out on close targets if you see the front sight on it bang. Targets farther out as long as I had daylight on each side of the sight and its close to level, bang. The smaller targets out way out there take a little more time to get the alignment squared up. Try various distances with various precision of sighting to see what works for you.
  3. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=109493&page=11&hl=%26quot%3Btransition+drill%26quot%3B#entry2350721 Transition Drill Brian and Rob, this may be getting back towards the beginning of the thread. Rob you were wondering about speeding up the transitions and that segwayed into the eye exercise topic. Brian had put up this drill last year and I thought he may bring up that drill. Rob, I was wondering if you have tried it or similar and wondered what your guys' thoughts were on how that drill ties into the evolved thread? Rusty
  4. I am looking for a range backpack and the Rush 12 and Pygmy Falcon or regular Falcon are the ones I am considering. I don't know if the regular falcon compares more to the Rush 24 or not. Has anyone tried both? Pros and cons? I want the backpack as I like to ride my motorcycle to some of the shoots and it just seems handier to begin with. I am an unranked SS 45 shooter and don't take much except the necessities so I don't need a real big bag. It is mostly local shoots at this point as well. Thanks
