Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Slightly OT, but I had a similar problem with my 4.25" M&P Pro, except mine seemed to shoot consistently left. After getting fed up one day, I asked the RO (a competition shooter and state police SWAT member) to give it a try and his first group did the same thing. He smiled and reloaded and proceeded to produce a series of small accurate groups with it. As he handed it back to me he suggested I do two things: be a little more patient with my follow-through, and move my support hand slightly more forward. I've been working on that and it's helped - my last time out I was getting 10 rounds inside the 9 ring at 10 yards which is probably as good as my old fart eyes can do. Now I just need to work on consistency and speed...
  2. Thanks. The UD6 has 2,4,6,8 MOA dots and two additional reticles...
  3. HI all. I'm new to this stuff and have a question I'd appreciate some assistance with. Here goes: I have a Daniel Defense M4V5 (nice rifle and way better at its job than its owner is!) with top rail mounted irons (approx. 1 3/8" high +/- at center) that I want to keep. I'm slowly setting it up for range fun and limited multi-gun. Based on my experience with an UltraDot MatchDot on my bullseye pistol and my limited budget (the reason I want to keep my irons), I'm leaning heavily toward an UltraDot 6 red dot. I'd like to set it up to give me a lower 1/3 co-witness. The UD6 is a 30m tube and comes with a pair of scope rings that are too low (and kinda cheesy). They'll work if I put them on a riser but that's a lot of mount interfaces and looks little jury-rigged. Doing the math it would seem the center of the mounted optic should be approx. 1.8" from the top of the rail (unless I've screwed this up, which could happen!) That brings me to the question - Can anyone recommend a quality mount that would give me what I need? I've thought about a single ring AImpoint Comp mount (GG&G) but have no idea whether that's a sufficiently stable and reliable option. I'm pretty careful about my gear, but feces occurs nonetheless. A more traditional scope mount seems more rugged, but may pose dimension problems as the UD6's tubes are much shorter than an ordinary scope. Further, I haven't been able to identify a scope mount high enough to give me the lower 1/3 position. I know this would be simpler if I had folding BUIS, but that's not in the budget and my old eyes need the red dot soon! I'd appreciate whatever insight or advice you all can offer, including other budget-conscious red dot sight options I should consider. Thanks very much! Phil "Sanchinguy" Schrantz
  4. Just a quick note to say hi and thank you to everyone for all the helpful info I've already found here! I'm a new sport shooter from central Michigan who, in an interesting switch, was brought to the sport by my son. We're both very much at the shallow end of the pool with our water wings on. He shot his first pistol event last season and we're talking about trying some 3-gun events this year. We've had a lot of fun so far just pushing one another to get better at the basics. I'm an old guy with old eyes (just found out I'm growing an brand new shiny cataract in my non-dominant eye) and need to have realistic expectations. My gear is way better than I'll probably ever be, but that's the way I like it. I'll lurk and learn for a while before posting too much. Thanks, Phil "SanchinGuy" Schrantz
