  1. No problem. Luckily I just got back into the hobby myself for the basically the same reasons- cheaper alternative for ammo and ability to do it in my back yard as compared to an hour drive. I'm working an "admin/instructor" job right now at Fort Bragg, which doesn't let me get to the range like I have been accustomed to the last 6 years, so airsoft is the only way I can keep my skills current right now. Works well enough as long as you scale your shooting drills and remember to key on the basics.
  2. I've always mounted mine on the top rail for rifle wherever your thumb usually rests comfortably. Top rail allows you to use either hand normally for both strong and support side shooting. No reaching around the grip to use it when forced to shoot support side.
  3. Like a few others, I had this issue develop. I have had PRK done twice, and my eye dominance over the past few years has shifted from my right eye to my left eye, as my left eye has been able to be better corrected. Previously I was always able to shoot pistol with both eyes open, but over the last 4 years or so, have found myself having to squint that left eye now to keep things clear and not have my brain fight which sight picture is correct. I've spent too long shooting right hand and right eye to switch over my dominant hand at this point, so I have moved into squinting my left eye. As far as shooting I see no difference- it just diminishes my peripheral vision as you would expect. Luckily with rifle I don't have the eye dominance issues like I do with the pistol, so I guess my brain doesn't have any issues with a red dot optic at that distance.
  4. Just to throw out a darkhorse in the race here would be G-Code. I was stuck with an issued SERPA in the military that I needed some solutions for, and they made a multitude of adapters to go along with their holsters as well as the SERPA's. I also just ordered one of their limited edition MARSOC edition holsters where they were donating proceeds to injured marines. It looks pretty cool with the red kydex interior and their "tactical black fuzz" outer coating (think black velvet). One of the benefits I find is that if you end up doing more than IDPA and you use their RTI mounting system you can very easily move the holster from one mounting solution to another. i.e. a paddle or no drop for IDPA, and a 2" drop for USPSA/3Gun. This system worked really well as a turret gunner because you could wear it on your chest while in the turret, and once you dismounted you could move it down to your belt in a matter of two second. P.S. I also have a Blade-Tech DOH and a Comp-Tac in various styles and can't say I necessarily have a favorite.
  5. Now that I am back from living overseas the past several years I am planning on doing some 3 Gun in the near future. I bought a 1-4x DFP US Optics for a deployment to Afghanistan mainly due to its ruggedness and ability to take some smacking around. The problem that I have with it is in the red dot not being daytime visible. I was lucky enough to have a 100m range about 10 feet outside my backdoor there, and plenty of free ammo in the bunker so I shot roughly 3 times a week for about three of the months we were there and then around once a week the other 6 months. So I was able to get plenty of trigger time behind the US Optics. I am still having a hard time breaking shots fast on things in 1x though because I am relying on centering the crosshairs and because in most daylight situations the red dot just doesn't cut it. So I am looking for something to bring to the arena that will help me out in this arena. My focus has mainly been on the Leupold Mark 6, the Swarovski Z6i and the Razor HD II 1-6 with the JM-1 reticle. Can anyone shine some light on these as far as daylight visibility? I haven't been able to find many direct comparisons between the three. Also wondering how well the JM-1 does compartively since it has no wind holds marked. I'm used to having some kind of tree to be able to deal with wind calls. Overall I am leaning toward the Leupold just due to the fact that if I head back overseas I would easily be able to take it off my fun gun and throw it on my duty gun and be able to do whatever the mission calls for, but I have read a few reviews that say its limited in the daylight visible category. Any help is greatly appreciated. I know the best way to figure it out is to try and get my hands on each one, but I am waiting for my gear to get here from storage and just trying to plan ahead, so I haven't been able to get out and see what anyone is shooting these days. Thanks.
  6. Thanks for the help. I vaguely remember ordering some from a place in GA last time, so it very well may have been Atlanta Arms. DC was the only thing I could find running a few google searches. Glad to hear their name come up. Thanks again. Hope to get back in the swing of things. I was lucky enough to have a 100m range right outside our back door in Afghanistan, and shot about 3 times a week for a solid three months... but there has been a good 9 months of rust developing on my skills since then. Need to get my form back.
  7. Just getting back from being stationed in Okinawa for a few years, and wondering if anyone knows of places selling bulk handloads for getting into IDPA? I would imagine this has decreased somewhat recently with the current scarcity of ammo in general. I bought about 2000 rounds just before leaving a little over 3 years ago, and didn't move my bookmarks over to my new computer with me, so I am starting from scratch trying to find stores that do this. Hoping to find relevant data for the here and now in the industry. Anyone out there with any info is greatly appreciated.Thanks.
  8. It does indeed have a mark showing that it has been peened. I've become pretty used to a F.O. sight with the Glock 19 that I have used the past few years, but find myself back to using an M9 as that is all the current unit I am in possesses. Hence why I am trying to switch out the front sight. I wouldn't mind as much for normal target shooting, but find when my life is on the line it is easier to pick up the F.O. than the white dot of the normal sights. Especially in low light conditions.
  9. Trying to put a Dawson F/O front sight post on my Brigadier slide, but I am having issues getting the original front sight tapped out of the dovetail. Does anyone have any tips on removing it without damaging the dovetail? I have mounted it in a rubber vice and tried to tap it out in both directions, with no luck. Would heating it up help? Very carefully dremeling it in half and knocking it out? I have put enough pressure on it to start to mar up the edges of the sight, but so far haven't damaged the dovetail channel, and am hoping to avoid doing so. I also don't have access to an actual gunsmith, as I am forward deployed, so sending it out through the mail is a no-go. Any and all ideas are welcome.
