  1. If you actually use the thing, the money you save on ammo will quickly make up the price...
  2. Wow, this past weekend's match was rough. I seem to have managed to consolidate my screw-ups into one match, though, so I guess that'll minimize the damage. I had shot a good first stage and was actually feeling calm and relaxed. Then came CM 03-07, Riverdale Standards. 3 strings of fire, mandatory reloads, strong/weak hand stuff. I rehearsed the sequence several times before I was up. The first string was super easy--4 targets, one round each freestyle, then reload and 1 more round each freestyle. Well, the buzzer goes off and I hit my 4 targets, then completely blank on what I was supposed to do next. I actually began to unload and show clear, then realized I needed to keep shooting. Got back on it and finished that string in an utterly shameful 15-plus seconds. String 2--one round each freestyle, reload, 1 round each strong hand. This is the one I'm really pissed at myself about. I hit my 4 freestyle, reload, and then go to acquire my sight picture strong hand. I had my finger in the trigger well as I was lining up the shot and jerked somehow, because I had an AD. It hit the berm just above and right of my target so it wasn't a DQ, but I KNEW it was an AD. It was a shot that I broke without intending to at that moment. I finished my string taking the procedural for an extra shot. At least I had my accuracy on the classifier-- 18A 2C (and the extra shot). If only I'd done the rest of it better. Then, on the last stage of the day, I hit a popper that activated a swinger that I was going to come back to from another position at the end of the stage. Only problem is the popper didn't fall and I didn't notice. I get to the end of the stage and see that the popper is still up and the swinger isn't moving. I go back to hit the popper and get the swinger, only to realize that the distraction got me a nice FTE and 2 misses on another target. It was just a rough day full of mental lapses, but the biggest lesson that I learned was that when I get rattled I need to just slow down, take a breath, and just shoot. While technically an "extra shot," it was completely inexcusable and attributable to my mind being somewhere other than shooting. Luckily that reminder came in a fairly benign way.
  3. I've got fairly big hands and get bitten periodically if my grip is too high.
  4. Very nice. Out of curiosity, why build up a limited gun in 9mm and not go with the 35?
  5. Being new to Glocks, I'm SO glad I didn't wait for the Gen4 G34 to come out. I love my Gen3.

    Glock 34 mods

I use a 35 for production that has the same sights, trigger, etc. as the Limited gun but is Production legal. I am the local MD, would hate to have to bump myself to open I was saying that when I do shoot something other than USPSA production I use the gun with all the mods above and every time it makes me think I need to ditch Production! Maybe next year, would be fun to shoot the FL Open next year with fewer reloads- ten 30-32 round stages makes for LOTS of reloading! Ah... that makes more sense. I apologize--having just been at a match where people were signing up as "production/major" and running long stages with 19 rounds per mag in their "production" guns, I must have gotten a little over-sensitive about the rules.

You're right--I stand corrected. 9mm is OK for Limited, but 9mm major is a no-no in Limited. I actually removed the piece you quoted when I realized he has a G35 anyway.

Since a magwell and any grip work that changes the stock profile automatically kicks you up to limited, I would say it's calling pretty loudly. If someone wanted to be nitpicky at a match, your gun is not USPSA production legal. And since there's no major power factor in production, you're robbing yourself of points anyway. Just shoot limited.

My 34 is decked out as follows: -Glockworx Fulcrum standard trigger (the black, production legal one). This also includes the striker, firing pin safety, etc. -ISMI stainless steel guide rod -ISMI 11lb recoil spring -Fulcrum lightened striker -ZEV Tech competition spring kit -Dawson fiber optic front/Dawson adjustable rear sight -Gorilla Grip stick-on grip -Glockmeister grip plug All legal for USPSA production and shoots very nicely.
  10. Joe--your use of "supposedly non-narcotic" is a good one--Tramadol is a synthetic opioid that's most closely related to Fentanyl. It's a little mind-blowing that people still call it a non-narcotic, because it behaves in your body exactly the same way. That said, 25mg daily is a small, small dose of tramadol, and I'd be surprised if you noticed any change at all in your shooting, especially if you're taking it long-term. You probably have a decent tolerance built up, and the psychomotor effects would be pretty minimal at this point. Of course, pain/stiffness/decreased mobility in your body can make it harder to relax into an index position and probably make groups spread a bit too. I'd be more inclined to think that's the problem. Good luck, and I hope you're feeling better soon, whatever the problem is.
  11. I went with the Dawson adjustable rear and a 0.335" x 0.105 fiber optic front--I've been very happy with it. One thing to be aware of, though, is that many holsters will not play nice with such a tall front sight--When my Dawson sights arrived I switched my holster from a Fobus to a Sidearmor. In retrospect I'm glad I had a reason to buy the Sidearmor because it's a really nice holster...
  12. Granted, the Fulcrum is the only trigger I've tried, but I've been quite happy with it. The only blip on the radar was that the striker had a little "lip" where the sear contacts it, and it led to some roughness. So I just switched back to the factory striker. I never had any reliability issues with it, and I haven't tried to send it back to Glockworx (I probably burned that bridge when I tried to grind down the little lip anyway), but otherwise it's been a great trigger group.
  13. I'm very happily shooting with a ZEV stainless steel extended guide rod (uncaptured) with a 13lb spring, and besides upgrading the trigger it was probably the single biggest bang for the buck improvement to my 34.
  14. I shot a local match last month, and realized after 3 of the 4 stages that I was doing pretty well. Took a look at my score sheets, tried to work out my hit factors in my head, etc etc. On the 4th and final stage--the classifier, no less--I shot as if I were holding a gun in my hand for the first time. It was miserable. Amazingly, this is no different from rifle matches I shot in college, where the 9's, 10s, and X's quickly turned to 7s and 8s as soon as I started tallying my scores. So I too have learned to save the scoring till after the last round is fired. Again.
  15. Interesting. I suppose it's a good thing that the Gen4 wasnt available when I bought my 34 a few months ago. I'm surprised, though, that manufacturers don't have a way around this issue--you know, some "minor update" clause.
  16. Coming from a 17" MacBook pro, the 27" iMac was a game changer. I use the i7 model with an external FW800 drive (until thunderbolt HD prices drop out of the stratosphere) for my photography work using Lightroom 3 and CS5, and I've been nothing but happy. Unfortunately it seems that knowledge at the retail stores is a little spotty. Best course of action is to find the old bearded guy. There seems to be one at every store and they're usually the most likely to have owned and/or used every model since the Macintosh.
  17. I've been pretty happy with Shot Timer Pro. Not sure if it was worth the 10 bucks but it does have a lot of good features. And it works fine on my iPhone 4 running OS5.
  18. If you think there's some anti-gun conspiracy here, just flip the channel to any of the other million and a half reality shows that portray weird people becoming celebrities doing weird stuff. They know what sells, and shows about normal law-abiding people going on about their days safely and responsibly don't sell.
  19. I'm eyeing the C-More STS for a cheap (relatively) open gun. There's a dovetail adapter plate for the Glock.
  20. What a lame attempt at covering up a clear screw-up by bathing everyone in testosterone. I'm pretty sure the match wasn't in Afghanistan and the cardboard wasn't charging him with an AK-47. Being active duty myself, I hate it when people use their military status as an excuse to do dumb/dangerous stuff.
  21. We're sorry you had a bad experience. In return, we're going to go ahead and keep our exorbitant service charge. Thanks. xoxoxo, TicketMaster.
  22. Well, this drill taught me what I already know--man, I'm slow. At least the accuracy is there... Best run was 8.94. Most were between 9-9.5, with a couple over 10. PM sent for part two.
  23. I'm very happy with my Sidearmor OWB for my G34 and their Customer service is great.
  24. Still not as bad as the self checkouts, which are guaranteed to take even longer, because the one person manning the 4 registers ends up manually ringing up 4 incompetent people at the same time.
  25. So you can be fat, but if you're obese that's ok? Sounds like you hate people who can afford nice things and the fatness is just a convenient scapegoat.
