  1. This is interesting. This issue is what pushed me to adjustable sights on my M2
  2. Congrats on the welder. Just picked up my first machine as well. All I need to do is find some time to use it.
  3. If you decide to convery it, move the trigger forward. Do not waste your money on the other type of "conversion". CSS is a great source for parts. They have a 5% promo code listed in the vendor section of the S12 forum. CSS does have some good videos posted and you should be able to do everything with basic hand tools. I would shoot it first to see how it runs. You may just need the basic conversion parts. This could be a pretty fun project for you and your son to work on together.
  4. I like J Dewey stuff. A bore guide, coated rod, jag, brush, patches, chamber brush/rod/guide
  5. I would go with the extended version. Here is a pic of my set up with a PST 1-4. It looks like I have an older version.... ended up having to bridge the gap to get the proper eye relief. Glad they came out with an extended one.
  6. The new vortex 2.5-10x32 FFP would be a nice fit under 1k.
  7. Thanks for the link co-exprs. I new armalite made them and thought they stopped because I could never find one in stock. Do you have a source for sleeves when the barrel is less than .750? I agree that taper pins can have an effect but I never found it to be significant enough to worry about when field style shooing with irons. For me, The only real drawback to a pinned FSB is that it is not something that is DIY for the average person.
  8. If the primary purpose is to use irons then a standard FSB is the way to go. I prefer pinned bases but only when done when after assembly and by a competent gunsmith. Nothing worse than having the rear significsntly sight off mechanical center. Surprisingly the only clamp on FSB I have found is the JP. It is adjustable and pricey. Anyone have a source for a standard clamp on A2 FSB? Seems like a waste to use the JP near the muzzle when not part of the gas system. Some day I hope Noveske will offer their stainless barrels with seats for a standard FSB.
  9. I agree. Whenever I am helping someone assemble a lower, I will only install the modified trigger guards. Before I started using the modified ones, I would bevel/polish the leading end, lube it, use a block to give suport the bottom ear, and use a correctly sized roll pin holder. I never broke one but it was always a concern.
  10. I know you were not looking to modify a trigger guard but BRE/Rainier Arms sells a modified Magpul trigger guard that has a hex screw in place of the roll pin. http://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=1237
  11. Did you try Tac47? They are almost local to you http://www.tac47.com/store/index.php/saiga-12-parts/s12-magazines.html
  12. Sounds like a fun match, hope to make it out to one soon.
  13. If you can call our ding-dong Governor and convince him not to sign the stupid mag limit bill, I'll make you as many as you have guns for... Will do. If he does sign it, maybe you can start making making really long toilet paper holders, with threads on both ends...
  14. You know you want to do an 11+1 run for the 28" guys
  15. They look real good. I held out on this run in hopes of a longer SS (or Ti ) tube in the future.
  16. Will future production runs be offered with different length main tubes? Can just the tube and shroud be ordered (no nordic extension)?
  17. 600 yards is doable. It helps to use heavy bullets. 55s with a 14.5" barrel start to loose a lot of steam at 400. A 14.5 and an 18" makes for a great pair of ARs.
  18. Can you share some info or a pictures of your sight set up?
  19. Here is a pic of an M2 with a DMW speed bar and extension (8 round total).
  20. Just waiting on the one piece tube for my 28 incher Hoping to get 11+1+1 maybe 12+1+1....
  21. Make sure to use a barrel vise and not an upper receiver vise. I split a block hard wood with a 3/4" hole drilled in the center. Some leather and a good bench vise are a must.
  22. Putting one of these together myself. After doing some reading online, I ordered the Carrier Comp Ti mag tube/follower, FFT forend, Geissele hammer, and Nordic Nova/Supernova +1 extension. Plan on screwing everything on myself. Trying to decide between an OEM or ProMag collapsible stock. *not planning to use it much for 3gun.
