  1. Why not an STI VIP? 25oz is as light as you can get with such capacity. I ordered mine in .40 S&W so I can use the same magazines and caliber I compite with. I am also planning in competing in ESP in IDPA. I will get it by mid-July. Can someone recommend holsters for it?
  2. I would like to see a commander size in 38 super... Ruger are you listening
  3. I like my ERGO grips in my commander. http://ergogrips.net/item-detail.cfm?ID=4500&storeid=1ℑ=ergoxt.gif&CFID=5266282&CFTOKEN=22220532
  4. Has anyone tried the new CM9, Dawson Precision is selling them for $ 431. *edit for correct link* for CM9 click here Its supposed to be a cheaper version of the PM9. Regarding the PM9, does it really fit a pocket? are we talking cargo pants pockets?
  5. Taking into account that the picture you posted is not very detailed, it looks to me like the guide rod that came in my SV, mine is tugnsten. All you need is a paper clip to take the gun appart. As who manufactured it...who knows, it works, has lasted 40k rounds and it does not look as it is going to break any time soon.
  6. Will the TS conversion kit work with a Colt Commander frame?
  7. If you mean 'naptha' it's a good solvent, but highly flammable. Be careful with that stuff! Yes, "Naphta", it is nasty but nothing beats it for cleaning... My gunsmith uses it.
  8. Does any one uses Nafta to clean the gun? It dissolves carbon very easily, evaporates and the residues can be brushed off. Can be bought at ACE.
  9. The VIP has a 3.9" barrel, I don't think missing 1.1' inches is going to affect that much. It is matter of using a faster powder.
  10. Several reasons: 1) Because I can 2) Because I like the ballistics out of commercial ammo 3) Because I have brass/dies/powder/knowledge to reload it 4) In my opinion it offers the best combination between capacity and power, and the only reason we are not shooting it in limited is because of the .40 rule developded in a time were bullet technology was not as developed as it is today.
  11. Hi, I am planning to buy a STI VIP in 9x19 as a carry gun, but I would like to convert it to 9x23 . Will have the barrel rimmed to 9x23, install an aftec extractor and change the recoil spring. Anyone know what recoil spring to install? Should I change the front sight? Anything else? Thanks.
  12. I thought the friction against the front wall of the magazine might prevent the spring from making it up the all the way...
  13. Hi there, I am trying to get maximum capacity out of my 140mm SVI mags. I have been playing with Bolen/SVI red/Grams followers and different basepads. My SVI has been absolutely reliable using OAL 1.2, should I reduce my OAL to 1.185 to avoid the "salt shaker" magazine? Does it matter? I thought about asking before I try reloading some... Thanks for the help,
  14. Correction, I tested the magazine today and it works (did not become a salt shaker ) So: SVI mag (pre-ban)+ bolen follower and spring + grams 4mm basepad = 20 rounds (non reloadable). Now how the heck do I get to 21? Who does that kind of tuning (magic)?
  15. Ok, I got the bolen follower and spring and the grams 4mm basepad from Shooters Connection. Put it in my "best" SV 140mm mag and I can hardly fit 20 rounds and I doubt it will work consistently as the first five rounds seem to sticking to the mag. Am I doing something wrong?
  16. A nice load that I am using in IDPA: OAL 1.235 Bullet: Precision Delta .356 124 gr FMJ Powder: Titegroup 4.4gr FPS: 1040 PF: 129 Almost no recoil out my STI Eagle lower / Colt 38 super upper
  17. I contacted Bobby Keigans and he is not tunning mags anymore. Does anyone know who does this kind of work? I have to SVI (old style) mags with Dawson +1 basepads and grams springs and followers, that hold 19 rounds reloadable, but I understand that I can get to 20 reloadable with bolen springs and followers but mag needs tunning. What kind of tunning? My mags have internal polished walls and the feedlips are in spec. Probably all this trouble for an additional round is not worth it...but I must have it
  18. I use the regular dillon die in the 1st station of my 1050 and the EGW U die in the second one, load them until they crack, but I usually loose them before that happens. I chamber check every "match" round, at that point I check for primers and cracks. I load long, 1.205 and shoot out of an SVI.
  19. Thanks for the replies, I will start with 3.5 gr and take it from there...
  20. Here is a video, of how to do it: It's in italian though....
  21. When I bought my RL 1050, I sold the 550, every time I buy a new toy in anew caliber I regret my decision. If only the 1050 toolhead was less expensive.....
  22. I recently purchased a CZ 2075 Rami in .40S&W and I want to shoot some IDPA matches just for fun. Does anyone have recipe using Titegroup that would make minor (125PF) with 175gr plated bullets? The only caveat is that the gun has a 3" barrel and the OAL should not exceed 1.135. Thanks,
  23. I recently purchased a CZ 2075 Rami .40 S&W for CCW purposes and I am interested in shooting IDPA matches with it. Does anyone know of any competition holster (I prefer kydex) that would fit this gun?
  24. Can someone recommend a gunsmith in northen Illinois?? The do-it yourself idea, was to save time rather than $$$
  25. Hi everyone, I want to change my front sight (target stile) for a fiber optic one in mi SVI .40 S&W. Can someone help with the right size/cut to purchase (I am looking for a green one, rather thin 0.90)? What is the procedure to change it? I have limited gunsmith skills...and I dont want it to come off in the middle of a COF Thanks
