i think you need to test your gun as all are different. I have a 6" 40 that runs both major and minor with a 14# spring with no issues. my SVI is more particular. You will know when you run the different loads in your gun.
powder check is a plus but i have seen my come out of adjustment over large loading sessions so pay attention that it is moving as well. I had a squib in a national steel match and the RO saved my gun and hands. with my electronic muffs I didn't hear the pop and repacked and was about to pull the trigger when the RO grabbed my shoulder and stopped me. Great RO Mike Silvetti. Bought him dinner. Saved me and my new custom built .45
I have a 650 and a 1050. Both are fantastic machines. 650 more flexible while the 1050 is a more robust machine. It will deliver the volume with less physical effort on your arm. It is however a more complicated machine that will take more time to get used to and will cost a lot more to have numerous conversions.
Congrats. I shot my first match last weekend and just went in as a total noobie. Learned a ton and realized that I need to practice a lot of different skills to become competitive
Once you've shot a steel gun it's hard to go plastic. I started with a Glock many years ago and once I shot a 1911, sig etc in steel, I don't shoot the Glock. It just lives in my safe. Great gun but not for me especially in competition shooting.
I would buy the style the gun you like to shoot such as 1911,Glock or whatever and buy the best you can afford. I would rather save for the gun I want vs one I really don't and settle. Yes you can sell it and upgrade later but it somehow never works out that way and ends up costing you more in the long run especially with all the other gear you need that may be specific to a type of gun. My 2cents worth.
Just shot my all round in steel practice and my times are as good if not better than my SVI limited gun. Even with the double action first shot it was really nice. It has the gray guns complete competition work and it is worth it so far. Other than the upfront cost I am amazed more people don't compete with these.
