  1. Glad I'm not the only whose thought about bringing out the old iron. The Mas-49, Hakim and VZ-52 have been collecting dust lately. I can hear them crying in the dark from here. The old girls would rather be used and abused than ignored. Let them out to play! Don't forget the SVT-40. Now, would the AG-42B Ljungman qualify for HM at 'only' 6.5x55mm?
  2. Just be prepared for The Humid. That doesn't go away in these parts til maybe November.
  3. My shotty isn't set up for one. Trying to find out if I need to get it that way.
  4. My experience (with a data set of two whole clubs) is that clubs have varying reasons for affiliating with 3GN, exposure/advertising being a big one. That being said, clubs, 3GN affiliated or not, are going to do what their range and equipment (mostly targets) allow them to do. All that steel - poppers, plate racks, etc - that you see on 3GN televised matches isn't exactly cheap. Simple hanging steel is much less expensive, and USPSA/IPSC carboard even moreso. And count your blessings for being in TX, Eric. I haven't been able to shoot a match with a target past 100 yards since the matches at Academi got shut down about a year ago. I find myself thinking wistfully of Mount Baldy and 500 yard targets...
  5. And I just did a calendar check, and this is the weekend AFTER the Army 10-Miler. Which means I don't have a scheduling conflict.
  6. Equipment question: will sling(s) be necessary for either the rifle or the shotgun at this match?
  7. Tagging this. It would be great to be able to go to a match and sleep in my own bed at night.
  8. When I click on the links to get to the detail view of the handguards (both NC-1 and NC-2) on Nordic's website, I get a 404.
  9. And the Gibbz plus a Noveske barricade support looks like it would cost roughly the same as a Seekins by itself, and well less than the BCM
  10. I'm liking the look of that Gibbz...I was looking at a Seekins for the upper I'm working on, but I may reconsider. Is there a way to attach a barricade support to the underside?
  11. I know this topic has seemingly been done to death, but I've done a bunch of searching and can't seem to find an answer. I'm in the process of acquiring parts for a new upper build. This will be my first purpose-built 3-gun upper. So far I've got a Nordic 18" barrel (acquired during their group buy discount back in Oct) and a Carbon Arms fixed gas block that I bought form the Classifieds, along with a CA comp. I only shoot factory ammo because I don't have time to handload. (I have four kids. Only the fact that I married the most awesome woman in the world allows me the time to shoot 3-gun at all.) Can I run a low mass carrier and/or buffer with the parts I have so far? If I trade the CA gas block for an adjustable one would it work? Or would some combination of either a low mass carrier or buffer with a regular partner work? In an ideal monetary world, I'd use the JP silent captured buffer system with either a JP or Seekins low mass carrier. Would that combination work with the Nordic barrel and CA block I already have? Or does using factory ammo mean I'm forced to use standard carriers/buffers?
  12. If you want to get it with the added QD sling point, direct from ACE is the way to go.
  13. That gives me an idea. A match that's like a trail of stages, and you pack everything with you that you need. Lol, probably not a new idea, though. And it wouldn't be very inclusive. But it would be a fun day! And a nightmare to administer. Sounds a lot like Trooper Division, except timing the whole thing. I'll bet you could do it someplace like Benning, where they have a continuous road that runs along a bunch of separate ranges.
  14. I'm shooting the Budget match in April, plus I shoot a monthly club match that I assume will be using the new rules. I've had thoughts about shooting factory.
  15. They have announced a bunch of Kalishnikov furniture and a new AK mag. Cool looking, that's for sure.
  16. I got mine for $20, IIRC. Maybe as low as $10. I also have a double that I got used (that was actually for my kids) for like $15 about 7 years ago. Availability and price can vary widely by location. When I lived in College Station, TX, you'd be lucky to find a used one on Craigs List for $75 (they all tended to be high-end brands, too. I bought that double in the DC area, and the single in Newport News. YMMV.
  17. That's kind of what I figured too. Weird wording I agree. But the way it's written, as long as the length isn't longer than a standard 30-rounder, it would be legal. Anyone have a side-by-side pic of a 30-round PMag and a Beta-C?
  18. For the pistol, could you not just say it must make the USPSA Production list (it is USPSA that has that list, right? I don't shoot USPSA or IDPA). For the shotgun, from my foxhole, the biggest thing would be limiting the tube length, probably to 8 rounds max. (Yes, I realize that most shotguns on the rack only hold 5.) I will admit that the thing that prompted me to jump in to 3-gun was the fact that TX MG (LaRue was the sponsor that year) created their WWII Division - Garand, 1911 w/ 8 round mags, pump 12 gauge with a 6 round tube. I already had two out of the three, and a used 870 only cost me about $200. Holsters, mag holders, and shell caddies ended up costing way more than that shotgun.
  19. I already have a maroon shotgun, and may well get my rifle ceracoated the same color when I get it built...matching mag pads would be awesome. Gig 'em!
  20. Hey Dew - has Aggie 3-Gun made any attempt to sign up TTI as a sponsor? I'd love some mag extensions in Aggie maroon! I've got 3 M&P mags and a bunch of P-mags that are still stock...
  21. Getting 404 Not found on that URL. Found here: http://tarheel3gun.com/t3gn/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/3-Gun-Nation-REGIONAL-SERIES-RULES-2015-FINAL-FORMAT-v4.pdf
  22. [Emphasis added.] Man, I really like it when folks post good, solid, reasonable, common sense like this. I haven't yet read through this new hodge-podge of rules, though I expect I will have to as I am probably signed up for matches using them, but one thing I got right away—they got "grounding" and "abandoned" bass-ackwards. Abandoned should mean you can't go back for it, and grounded should mean just (temporarily) placed somewhere safe out of hand...except that they called it exactly the opposite. I would definitely agree with that. Reversing those two terms would dramatically reduce confusion, IMO.
