  1. Didn't the -97 run afoul of IDPA rules at some point in the past because they viewed the full length dust cover as a modification, because they called the -97B simply a up-calibered version of the CZ-75, which doesn't have a full length dust cover?
  2. I thought I saw one or two match announcements that were down there. Are ya'll still doing matches at Academi?
  3. I have one in a lower I built a few months ago. Had an odd experience trying to get it installed. I was using an Aero Precision lower, and the POF trigger pack wouldn't fit - I couldn't get it to go far enough forward for the pin holes to line up right. I tried it in three stripped Aero lowers that I had, and it was the same for all of them. Pulled the trigger out of a (vintage 2004) Stag lower, and the POF fit just fine there.
  4. I will cop to doing 3-gun as my first action shooting sport (I did Olympic-style 3-position rifle in college, and shot the All-Army matches once. Or do you count trench assault live-fire training as a action shooting sport? ) That said, I took the plunge because I saw that TXMG had opened a "WWII Division" (this was late fall of 2011) - M1 Garand, 6+1 pump, and single-stack 1911 (8+1). I already had 2 of those 3 guns, so it lowered the cost to start, and the "gear intimidation factor" tremendously. (I added the shotgun for $200 - a used 870 Wingmaster with 26" barrel.)
  5. Andy, Tom Knapp is banned from shooting. He passed away in 2013. He's only banned on this plane of existence. He got promoted to shoot in the Heavenly Division, with The Big Man Himself.
  6. Everyone has listed what divisions the CZ-97 can play in in USPSA and IDPA...don't forget Heavy Metal/He-Man in 3-gun. I need to get an AR-10 first, then get a holster and extra mags for my -97B.
  7. El G, why do you assume that new shooters need to have a full suite of high speed equipment right after they start? Yes, it's nice to have the same or comparable toys as the 'cool kids', but it's unnecessary. Heck, I started out shooting HM Irons with an M1 Garand, an 870, and a Kimber 1911. Moved up to an AR with an EOTech, a Beretta 92, and the same 870, and finally an AR with a 1-4x, a CZ-712, and an M&P Pro. One of my friends shot his first couple of matches with an iron sighted AR, his duck gun, and a Glock 19. It's the Indian that matters, not the bow & arrow.
  8. I think there was an extended FB thread on this exact topic. IIRC, the main point of contention was whether or not the clay falling without being hit by a pellet (and not breaking) constituted a range equipment failure or not. If you interepret it as a range equipment failure, shooter gets a re-shoot. (I think?) If it's not an equipment failure, then it should be a penalty, by my reading of the rules.
  9. There was a guy in my squad at LaRue 3 years ago who wore a (reproduction) WWII rifleman's cartridge belt (with individual pouches for each clip) as a chest rig. Seemed to work reasonably well for him.
  10. What diameter punch? I've got a punch set I use for AR-15s.
  11. I have a M&P Julie Golob model that came with an Apex FSS, and I just bought a Pro 9L that has a CAEK installed. I want to swap the triggers to use the 9L for 3-gun and the JG for IDPA. I've never done any trigger work on M&Ps (or any pistols for that matter.) What tools do I need to do the swap?
  12. How many HM-Limited shooters are going to get the most out of that 30-round magazine allowance? I just did a quick look at Brownells*, and they only show Magpul making box mags bigger than 20 for AR-10s, and those are only 25 rounds. So to get to 30, you have to shell out $275 for a drum. Will 25 be enough to get the results you're looking for? *There may be mag makers out there that go to 30 that Brownells doesn't carry. That was just the first place I checked.
  13. Random question - besides availability, what's the difference between the Solo Lite and Ultra Lite handguards? Their website lists the weight for the 16.5" Lite at 12.6 oz, but doesn't list a weight for the Ultra Lite. Are they made out of different materials? Or did they just mill out more material from the Ultra Lite?
  14. I'm not sure who is running this match, but the Tidewater 3-gun crew moved down to work with Tarheel 3-gun after they had to stop shooting matches at Academi. The Tarheel crew did a great job, both with registration (online only, filled up fast) and the match itself. I'm looking forward to this one, since I only live an hour away.
  15. Argentine even (easily distinguishable by the detachable box mag.) I've got an Egyptian 8mm version, stripper clips only.
  16. Definitely a great match. Will definitely be back next year, and hopefully I'll make it into the Sat-Sun portion.
  17. You had to mention the weather didn't you? It's been raining for the last two hours.
  18. The word "should" makes me nervous...I do wish the good Mr. Sole would pop in with a definitive answer.
  19. There are prone stages I assume. How much would you charge so you won't wear it? I think if you keep your demands low enough, you could get most of us to chip in a twenty. Don't tempt me...you've pretty much guaranteed I'm going to walk around Wednesday afternoon/Thursday morning (I'm shooting Segment 1) in the kilt.
  20. Now I just have to figure out the risk level to wearing my kilt while shooting...
  21. And the biggest reason I want to know if I need to be able to use a sling for my shotgun: the front attachment point requires putting on the barrel clamp (which I usually leave off, since my mag tube isn't long enough to use for pole vaulting, even over mouse turds). Putting on the barrel clamp changes the POI, most importantly for slugs, which the web site said there will be 28 slug targets. I'd like to know if I need to put the clamp on and thus if I need to take the shotty out to the range to recheck the relationship between POA and POI.
  22. Slings I have...it's the hardware to strap it to my shotgun that I'm lacking.
