Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. If you can find it/them, try the Lyman seating die/set. The Lyman seating die comes with multiple bullet shape inserts that really come in handy.
  2. Man! I just used up my 2000 reloaded rounds and started another couple thousand. I'm used to getting an occasional Speer small primer casing, but this time 1-of-6 was small. WTF?! They were Federal, Blazer, and a couple Speer. Slowed my reloading pace way down. There were enough casings for me to consider reloading, but I am not sure if the small primer setup will work with the .45 base plate on my Dillon 660. From reading the horror stories, i am not sure I want to reload small primer .45's.
  3. 230gr bullet @ 717fps = 165PF. 200gr bullet @ 820fps = 165PF. Will a couple more tenths of powder go over max?
  4. I shoot .45 1911's in IDPA - CDP and USPSA - SS. Have for .... 5yrs. The .45's are the most reliable of all the other calibers, in my experience. The design was/is meant for a .45 230gr RN bullet. Get fancy with the bullet shape (hollow points, SWC) and there can be issues, but gunsmiths have figured out how to make those shapes work well, too. And you don't have to reload all your ammo; store-bought works perfect. The .40 bullet shape is hard to make reliable in the 1911 format. 9mm is, as well, but there are occasionally some very reliable 9mm 1911's around. But for self defense, what's more intimidating -- in a pistol -- than staring down the barrel of a .45" hole?
  5. I am interested in purchasing a Sig Sauer Ultra 1911 w/ 3.5" barrel for concealed carry. (See Sig's website under 1911 option.) Does anyone have one? If so, how reliable has it been? Meaning: how many shots fired, how many malfunctions and with what ammo. Comparing the Sig to other Officer size 1911's, the Sig has great features for the money. But I won't carry it unless I know how reliable it is considering small-frame 1911's have a reputation for being "finicky". Spare the "just buy brand XXXX and don't worry about reliability" comments. I appreciate your feedback!
  6. I was in the local outdoor sports mega store the other day and saw some Ramshot powder. After checking out their load data on their website, the Competition and Zip powders piqued my interest. Has anyone ever try either powder for 9mm or .45ACP? What were your results and opinion? By the way, Ramshot has excellent load data on the website! They list MANY bullet types and weights; ~3X more than the other online guides.
  7. Why do all the .45 230 RN loads I see show an OAL of < 1.245"?? 1.200" ... what shape bullet is THAT?? All the 230 RN bullets I have used (Montana Gold, Rainier, Berry's, Bullet Works) can't load to 1.200 without a gap at the mouth. What happened to loading to 1.260" OAL? Anyone have a good Major Power Factor load for 1.260"?
