No doubt the NERD is faster. I'll come clean and say I'm about 99% on my ALS draws being in the 1.0-1.2 s time to first shot range after a year of strict dry fire practice. I do muff draws but it's happening less and less the more I dry fire and practice. I'd probably be 0.1s faster with the NERD, no doubt it's easier to draw.

Thing is, I forgot things. Like tensioning my pistol screw. Like the dude I saw. He admitted he completely forgot about it when making ready. NERD makes great stuff and if they had a hood on that holster instead of a screw I'd probably get one. Murphy is real though. We all have different levels of acceptable risk.

Do you have the "nub mod" on your ALS?

I think they work well, and are well made. https://www.otdefense.com/

No, I would say that is plenty, I wouldn't bring much less, but you can shave a bit of buckshot and slugs and still be ok. Those counts stand as a great guide. I went through 230 rifle for shoot in, but I shot a couple of them multiple times. Ran out about 80 rounds of 45 as well, but I let my brother shoot in the shotgun stages. There was some ballistic playing that went on as well ;)

Hey Kurt, Rookie (above) said 25 slugs, but the last "official letter" showed 50 slugs. Which amount is closer to reality?

    Thanks!

  3. I have the pocket pro 2 and the ced 7000. I like the ced for the small size when training by myself, however I don't think it's quite as rugged as the PP2. The CED also has a longer time recorded before it "wraps around". So for long 3 gun stages the CED will make it to the end if someone times out. The PP2 wraps around sooner, not a big deal, but you have to know what that time is if you're timing a long stage.

So I'll use the CED for some specific reasons, but I use the PP2 much more often. Big display, durable, etc. If I could only have one it would be the PP2.

  4. So in the letter, it states that there will be 2, 4 person teams to create each 8 person squad. My friend and I are a team of two. We'll be shooting in "Traditional" with our defensive gear and lots of camo. We both are competitive pistol shooters, and know how to run our long guns. Would there be a team of two coming that would like to squad up to be able to participate in the team shoot? If so PM me and maybe we can work it out.

You really need to squad with me sometime... it has been known for the ROs to send in a rescue party to excavate the pile of brass and extract my body.

Stealthy, I can bring a shovel for the extraction. Interested?

  5. J.J. posted it as ROUND COUNT, and he is one of the match directors, but everyone is saying it is TARGET count. I can't find any place where it says Target count on the web, so I am confused! Anyone know for sure. I leave tomorrow morning.

Kurt, this is what Denise posted back in June. It looks like target count to me.

    Posted 18 June 2016 - 10:10 AM

Target Count (Steel must fall/indicate to score - paper needs 1 A or B or 2 anywhere to avoid penalty)

    Stage 1 – 3-Gun – 12 birdshot, 15 rifle(350 yds), 15 pistol – rifle sling

    Stage 2 – Pistol/Rifle– 20 pistol, 20 rifle (paper and steel) 500 yds – rifle sling

    Stage 3 – Rifle – 25 steel (600 yds), 5 paper

    Stage 4 – 3-Gun – 6 slugs, 6 birdshot, 15 pistol, 12 rifle steel(250 yds) – rifle sling

    Stage 5 – Shotgun/Rifle – 8 slugs, 10 birdshot, 10 rifle paper, 12 rifle steel (400 yds) – rifle sling

    Stage 6 – Shotgun Bird Stage – 40 birdshot

    Stage 7 – Pistol – 25 pistol paper, 20 pistol steel

    Stage 8 – Pistol/Shotgun – 35 choice targets birdshot/pistol

    Stage 9 – 3-Gun – 15 rifle steel(250 yds) , 15 pistol steel, 6 slugs, 4 birdshot

Rifle distances are farthest possible in that area. Most will be less than max distance.

Pistol shots out to 50yds/60 yds max

Slugs out to 100 yds or so max

    Rifle – 109

    Pistol – 110 plus Stage 8

    Birdshot – 72 plus stage 8

    Slugs - 20

There may be small adjustments as we put the stages on the ground. Terrain changes in the rain...visibility etc. But this should be close...but be sure to bring MORE!!! You might miss one or two!

Also, if you are signed up for the team shoot, the stage ALL teams will shoot will have 2 rifle shooters with about 15 rounds each, 1 pistol shooter with around 20, 1 shotgun shooter with about 15 birdshot, 6 slugs. You won't know who is shooting what until you get your mission brief. So, please plan accordingly!

  6. Hey Guys, In September Competition Dynamics will be administering a "throwback SOF type 3-Gun" match in Logan, NM at the Blue Steel Ranch hosted by JP Enterprises. This match will have the full flavor of the "old SOF" days, Jesse Tischauser thinks we are old :)...lol, much respect to him.

Anyway...there is 10K/3 in cash for the top finishers, 30K+in product from JP Enterprises, and awesome giveways.

We know this not a "mainstream type" match, but if you ever wanted to shoot and experience a tactical type match, that paved the way for 3-gun today, and every organization in the US followed and used their rules at some point, this is it!

With 3-gun now, we think it is at it's saturation point, Back in the day there were 3-4 matches that one much shoot...Period... SOF, SMM3G and the VIking Tactics 3-Gun Tactical Match.

Now there are literally 100's of matches, and still the same 3-4 must shoot matches.

There will be some side matches, Burris Optics is putting scopes on JP rifles, the Machine Gun Tours monster truck will be there for you to try to shoot out of as well as some Epic courses of fire!

Now is the time for questions, for we are over 2 months out.

    Jimmy

    Hey Guys,

I had my computer taken over by "ransomware" (Google it, you won't believe it) and lost all my saved emails. This includes my registration info and anything else that was sent to me. I'm trying to recover all those emails, but it doesn't look good. Is there any way to recover them from your end?

  7. Was at a major match in June and a shooter called for an overlay on a head shot. I just laughed under my breath, then to my surprise, the SO said oh I got one right here. Then I thought WTH?? and stood there while 5 shooters and 3 SO's discussed it.. Out come was a miss..

    Are you friggin' kidding me?

  8. Of course I check a gun I handle. I understand what you are saying. But if you see the mag come out before a round is ejected, where would the round come from?

It doesn't matter where it (theoretically) might come from - we check, because that's what works. We're not supposed to assume, we use the procedures.

For instance, we don't "assume" the gun is clear after ULSC, even after "seeing" them unload and even after looking in the chamber - we have them drop the hammer/striker to *prove* it. This isn't hard, and it isn't difficult, it's the right thing.

And that's why I don't have to look.

And what RO/SO class taught you that?

  9. Except for the fact that if you're an IDPA member, you're supposed to be properly Classified. Sanctioned match participation is not the main reason to shoot the Classifier.

IDPA certainly doesn't make this as easy as USPSA. If I can't make a specific date for a classifier match I can't get classified "in pieces" like I can on the USPSA side. I haven't had one line up yet...

All IDPA clubs are required to run the classifier at least once per year. Many will do individuals if you ask. If you're just curious and have range access, you can run yourself in a classifier just to see where you fall.

Match results are a fairly reliable indicator of how you will fare in the classifier.

Bingo. Depending on the club, someone could run you through it immediately after a match.

  10. There is a big difference going from a race gun to a stock glock thats in the nightstand. I like to shoot it and IDPA is much better than standing in front of a paper target at an indoor range.

This. I only shoot IDPA when there's not a USPSA match available, but this is exactly my mentality for why.

Maybe one day I'll shoot the IDPA classifier.

The classifier is so dull. Unless you want to shoot a sanctioned match, I'd pass on it.

Except for the fact that if you're an IDPA member, you're supposed to be properly Classified. Sanctioned match participation is not the main reason to shoot the Classifier.
