Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Due to issues we experienced getting the Pirates of Texas web site updated we are extending the dead line for early registration discount until January 10th. Payment postmarked prior to the 11th is $100.00 after it is $125.00. We have decided that for this years Prates of Texas Texas State Carbine Championship we are offering a Youth discount for shooter under 18 years old. Youth discounted fee is $75.00.
  2. Sorry for the late announcement but Texas Carbine is once again sponsoring the Pirates of Texas, Texas State Carbine Championship. The mach is February 10th. but a limited number of slots are available on the 9th to shoot with the staff. The Big Announcement for this year is a new venue, the match will be at the Corpus Christi Pistol and Rifle Club, now call just the Corpus Christi Gun Club. This is a much nicer facility with real berms and roads that don't require a tracked vehicle to travel. This years match will feature seven coerces of fire, with props only found with Texas Carbine. Final round count has not been locked down but some where in the range of 200 if you don't miss much. Entry is $100.00 if payment is received prior to January 1st. $125.00 after entry includes unique Match T shirt, lunch and this year a Texas Carbine/Pirates of Texas Challenge Coin. This a trophy match with plaques awarded to the top finishers in mutable classes/categories. Please check the Texas Carbine web site http://www.texascarbine.com/ for a link to sigh up and the unique rules/scoring, or you my go directly to the Practice Score sign up page at https://practiscore.com/pirates-of-texas-state-carbine-championship-2019/register to register. Kevin Jimmerson of the Texas A&M marksmanship unit told me that they will be coming again this year. If you haven't had the opportunity to shoot with this outstanding group of young people it is well worth the price of admission. Merry Christmas from everyone at Texas Carbine and Pirates of Texas Match 2019 Maytag
  3. The 2018 Pirates of Texas Carbine Championship just around the corner and it is going to be the best one yet. The stages are nearly complete, round count is still being refined, but the total round count without any misses will be under 200. Keep in mind two stages will have steel targets from 80 to 200 yards. This match will again feature a blind stage. As always several stages will have some targets that move. We have introduced new activators for them to them very dependable. Also new this year are target flags that activate when steel targets are hit to eliminate the human factor on calling hits. We have been using these all year and they work very with everything from rim fire to 30.06. We are welcoming the Marksman Unit for Texas A&M again this year and there coach tells us that some other collage teams may enter as well. Come join the pirates for a good time.
  4. Good news all Dreadnought is again going to be our overall sponsor and we have other who have expressed interest in sponsorship of this years match so there will be stuff on the prize table.
  5. Rim fire will use the same targets on the 80 yard targets but will have closer on the 200+ yard targets. PCC has not been decided on the 200+ as of this date. PCC mag capacity is 33 rounds.
  6. This is Your Beloved Maytag AKA the "Lustrous Potentate of Texas Carbine" with a few hints and scuttle butt about the Pirates of Texas Carbine Championship. The 2017 battle is with the Killer Clowns and will feature 7 stages, one of which is a blind stage. No, you will not be blindfolded nor will we poke your eyes out, but you will not be able to view it prior to entering the bay. In the interest of fairness, Your Beloved Maytag will set up the stage with no assistance from any shooter and the area will be closed off from everyone including Match Staff until they have shot it. After the Stage Staff has shot the stage they will maintain the integrity of the stage for everyone else. Air defenses will ring the stage and the Pirates Hunter Killer Drone will engage any other drones and will shoot them down without additional warning. This years stages will include one medium range stage (80-100 yards) and one long range stage (200-225 yards). The other five stages will range from near contact to 40 yards. We will have a running target on one stage and several targets that move on the others. A question was asked about Prize Table, The Pirates of Texas Carbine Championship was founded as a trophy match the only. Reward for doing well is pride and bragging rights with a plaque to prove your prowess. In the past, we have had generous sponsors provide items that were given away by random drawing. This year those donations have been few and far between. I suspect uncertainty of the Presidential Election outcome caused many of our past sponsors to decline our requests this year. That said we will have a few items to be given away. This years match will prove to be the most fun and challenging in the history of the Pirates of Texas Carbine Championship. Entries payment postmarked prior to Jan 1 are $100.00 those postmarked Jan 1 or later are $125.00, so sign up early and save yourself $25.00.
  7. Hey everyone who has not signed up for the Pirates of Texas Carbine Championship 2016 "Pirates v the Walking Meatheads" the dead line for the early registration is December 31st so get those application in and save some money. The stages are still under review and prop testing still on going but I can promise that this match is going to be the best ever. Dreadnaught Industries is our Gold Sponsor this year. So get registered and come out for another great match.
  8. First congratulations Jeremy for your first place finishes in both Open and Tactical and for his service to the country as a Naval Officer. Second, thank you for your kind words about the operation of our match. You are certainly entitled to your opinion about TC scoring on our steel stages; however I would like to explain our rational to those readers who may not be familiar with it. TC scoring was developed to keep shooters from playing games with the system to score better that someone who was trying to do their best. For instance on our Stage 7, a shooter could shoot five shots from each of the two shooting positions thereby engaging all targets in say 20 seconds, not hit a target and end up with a time of 70 seconds after points down, thereby besting someone who tried to do their best and hit nine out of ten targets and timed out. Our matches are designed for people who want to challenge their shooting ability on fun stages. Maytag
  9. It was no problem mailing the plaques we were glade you could make the match. We trust you had a good time and hope you may be able to make a monthly sometime. Congratulations
  10. Dear Sensei you may have shot the world over but, the rule we quoted is USPSA 9.5.5 not 9.5.2. 9.5.5 says "Enlarged holes in paper targets which exceed the competitor’s bullet diameter will not count for score or penalty unless there is visible evidence within the remnants of the hole (e.g. a grease mark or a “crown”etc.), to eliminate a presumption that the hole was caused by a ricochet or splatter" our purpose in quoting was to reaffirm that we are not alone on our counting oversize bullet holes as misses. We also quoted IDPA (I know bad word) for the same purpose. We are doing this to eliminate any hurt feelings when someone shoots through something else, or the bullet doesn't stabilize or anything else that will cause a sideways bullet strike on a paper target. This removes the necessity for the R. O. to try and recreate what happened to cause it. If it is sideways it’s a miss. Look forward to see you and Jerry M this weekend. Oh! what happened with the film crew last weekend?
  11. Hi folks, there is a rumor circulating that our match is full and that we are not accepting any more applicants. This rumor is not true, a good number of shooters have pre-registered but we are not full yet, so come on down for a good time.
  12. Cliff it was great to see you again. Thanks for coming to our match, for the kind words, and unbiased explanation of our match style. We are looking forward to seeing you at the Pirates Match.
  13. This is not an IDPA match and there will be no mention of cover in any course of fire. We are using Vickers scoring WITHOUT the Failure to Neutralize (FTN) penalty. We have never given a Failure to do Right (FTDR) penalty nor have I ever seen one given at any match. We retain that penalty not because we are incapable of designing good stages, (our past matches will attest to that,) but as a solution to someone who attempts to make a travesty of the match just to win. When we put on the matches in the past for the other club, BOTH the FTN and FTDR penalties were in the scoring and no one had a problem. As a matter of fact, if memory serves, you also shot the match Mike and I don't remember you complaining about scoring back in 2010. If you check the other club's website in the carbine score section, you may notice more than a few names of some importance to our sport who shot the match and had a good time and I believe that anyone who attends our match this year will also find it both challenging and fun.
